Online Q&A FacilityWe introduced the new online Q&A facility on the 18th of March this year onto our main repair website repairs.fonua.com and our public access site fonfix.com. So far it has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm and has proven to be a great success. We recently extended this facility onto our customer portal portal.fonua.com where it has had the same immediate effect.
The Q&A facility consists of a dynamic knowledge base from which our customers can ask questions relating to any aspect of our service using the Q&A Widget. If the Widget doesn’t provide an answer our FAQ section probably will.
If the query warrants it then customers can easily use our ‘Contact Us’ form to raise a ticket. The great thing with this new facility is that, unlike emails, the tickets are routed directly to the area of our business best equipped to deal with the specific query meaning faster and more accurate query response and resolution.
Only two out of every ten questions asked using the Q&A Widget result in a ticket being raised, which means over 80% of queries are being answered by our dynamic knowledge base without the need for a phone call, email or ticket.
When a ticket is raised our average response time is less than 80 minutes with an average resolution time of just 3 hours 20 minutes.
We were really encouraged by how quickly our customers have adopted to using this new facility and we were delighted to receive overwhelming positive feedback from everyone.

3 Ireland takeover O2 Ireland3 Ireland has been granted permission by the European Commission to complete a deal worth almost €850 million to buy O2 Ireland. The reason behind the European Commission’s decision was mainly due to 3 Ireland agreeing to help two new mobile competitors join the Irish mobile market. This condition means that Carphone Warehouse and UPC will now be able to launch an MVNO service within the Irish market. However, communications regulator Comreg has growing concerns over the takeover of Spanish company Telefonica by the Hong-Kong based Hutchinson Whampoa as the market share of 3 Ireland, Vodafone and Meteor would make it difficult for any new competitors to penetrate the Irish mobile market!
iOS 8Apple has recently released the new and improved iOS 8 at their annual conference in San Francisco. The key aspect of this new software is that it lets people respond to messages while working in other applications. There are several other new features to iOS 8, most notably the introduction of console quality games for iPads and iPhones and also the new iCloud System which allows you to open files with different apps and allow saved changes to their original locations. iOS 8 will also help keep you fit with the new health app and its HealthKit service. Apple are also retaining their partnership with Nike who are
continuing to intergrate Apple’s HealthKit into their own products. iOS8 also introduces a new finger print scanning system called the Touch ID which they plan on using to replace passwords, but Apple have reiterated that there will be no privacy issue as there will be no direct access to your fingerprint data. The updates offer some insight into the direction that Apple are going since the death of Steve Jobs.
FokoFoko is the new business to business equivalent of Instagram that presents a platform for photo-sharing for businesses. The year old company has recently signed Whole Foods as a client, this is a major coup as Whole Foods is spread across the US, Canada and the UK. What is more impressive is that within 90 days over a 1,000 employees in 12 regions were using Foko regularly. Foko is being used in different situations, for instance if a Whole Foods outlet has an interesting display it can be replicated through the photo-sharing app by other outlets around the region. Also if a new store opens they can share the new ideas created from the store throughout the chain. Foko is a great way for employees to collaborate by sharing new ideas without ideas being threatened by rivals. Foko is a free service but it allows you to pay extra for additional features. The hope for Foko is to bring photo-sharing into the workplace and make it the norm for businesses to share photos amongst themselves, making it as prevalent in their business lives as it is in their personal lives.
Frozen AppFrozen is the highest-grossing animated movie of all time and that is mainly due to its infectious soundtrack. Now Disney has released an app to sing along to favourites such as “Let It Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman”.The app has the original instrumental tracks which are accompanied by scenes from the movie. You can record yourself singing the tracks and send them on to your family and friends and also store your performances in a gallery for future use. This is a great app for kids to learn the lyrics and practice their vocals but there is no doubt the closet Frozen fans among us will be giving this app a go too!
HomeKitHomeKit is the newly developed tool by Apple that will allow the makers of smart home products to integrate with Apple’s mobile OS. HomeKit functions by linking up with other smart products such as locks, lights, cameras, switches and many different products. This can work through location-based triggers and other apps such as the Hue app for lighting and the Nest app for heating.HomeKit also focuses on security as a major area of importance in the home in terms of Smart products. For instance, they are looking at making iPhones so that they are solely compatible with the locks on the doors and alarms in your house, meaning your iPhone alone can unlock and turn off your alarms. This development is bound to take some time but keep an eye out

for 'Made for iPhone' on home appliances in the very near future.
Huawei Ascend P7The Huawei Ascend P7 is the new Smartphone that Huawei believe can successfully break them into the European Smartphone market. They have made it as a cheap alternative option to other premium priced Smartphones currently in the market. Huawei is a lesser known brand in Europe, especially in the Smartphone market. However it is already a big player with its network equipment, meaning they have a decent grasp on the European tech market which can only help if they intend on becoming one of the major players in the Smartphone market. The P7 is a slim phone with a five inch screen, it uses the Android software but has ditched the standard Android grid, instead Huawei have created their own in a brave move to differentiate their product.
Android WearAndroid Wear is the new Smartwatch that is supposedly going to revolutionise the tech industry. It is rumoured that the Google made product will be released before the rumoured Apple iWatch as they are hoping to gain control of this new sector within the market. The new Android Wear is supposed to be based around the Google Now program, but images and information released about the Android Wear, to date, have been slim.Even with a simple to use interface and voice activation system it
remains to be seen whether a Smartwatch can attract enough interest to make such an investment worthwhile!
The Beats MusicApple is looking to compete with streaming music services, such as Spotify, with its newly acquired Beats music service. This is due to the popularity gained by Spotify and similar organisations and the potential to be invested in this service. The transition to a streaming music service is also due to the decline in interest of the seemingly dated iTunes Store. Beats Electronics Co-Founder Jimmy Lovine is now working with Apple to launch the Beats music service and with the use of the brand name of the other Co-Founder, Dr.Dre, they hope to rapidly gain some of the market share from Spotify and other competitors. The Beats service currently has 250,000 subscribers compared to Spotify’s 10 million paying subscribers. This would be a seemingly impossible bridge to gap if it were not for the backing of Apple and the successful brand name of Beats Electronics. However, the fall down of the Beats service is that once the free trial is finished there is no non-paying option as opposed to Spotify who provide a non-paying option which gives you the bare minimum. As the service is only focused on the paying customer it actually misses out heavily on potential advertising revenue where the free users of Spotify are targeted.
The Beats service has serious potential to compete, but due to the competitive market and the already rampant illegal downloading of music, this can be seen as a risky investment.
Facebook to take on ShazamIt is rumoured that Facebook is to launch its own app that will identify music and TV shows through a device’s built-in microphone on both iOS and Android platforms. Facebook has decided to enter the market by launching the app to make it much easier to share, on its social network, the music the user is listening to and the TV shows they are watching. However, the company already faces stiff competition from the established app Shazam, which is expected to be included as hard-wired software in the next iOS 8 operating system in combination with Apple's voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) software, Siri.It remains to be seen whether Facebook will be able to break the market, as Shazam only recently continued its growth as the dominant music recognition software available. Shazam has struck deals worth US$3m each with some of the largest music labels, including Warner, Sony and Universal. Shazam also claims to have 460m active users and an estimated value of US$500m while it continues to push further marketing deals with retailers who can place advertisements within Shazam searches.

What device are you currently using? HTC One (M8)
How long have you been using this device? 2 months
Why did you purchase this device over others? It has expandable memory, a high quality camera and I really liked the style of the phone. I also liked the software which is closer to IOS (which I usually use) than typical Android devices i.e Samsung or Sony
What are your favourite features of the device? The camera and the Zoe function (A Zoe is a collection of photos and videos that the gallery has preselected, with added background music and special effects). I also like the double tap feature to open the screen
What are your least favourite features of the device? The ringing volume button can easily be pressed by accident while in your pocket even if the phone is locked
What do you think of the look and feel of the device? The phone looks very well but it can be a bit slippy without a case
What do you think of the performance of the device? Best phone I’ve had so far, very fast and can manage multiple tasks with ease!
Is there anything that you would change or enhance? No!
Do you think the device was value for money? Yes, very good value especially compared to the iPhone which I would have used before buying the HTC
Would you recommend this device? Yes 100%

What device are you currently using? Samsung Galaxy S5
How long have you been using this device? Since the handset was launched
Why did you purchase this device over others? I had the Samsung Galaxy S4 beforehand and I’ve had iPhones in the past but I much prefer android
What are your favourite features of the device? I like the heartbeat monitor, it came in particularly handy on a recent holiday after a few drinks
What are your least favourite features of the device? Poor battery life, but this is a common gripe with all Smartphones
What do you think of the performance of the device? I expected a better battery life, I have to dim the screen to 10% to get a full days use
What do you think of the look and feel of the device? I like the style and finish of the phone
Is there anything that you would change or enhance?
The network selection is buried in the settings and isn't on the home screen so you can’t see what network you’re on, can prove awkward when you live close to the border.
Also the first manufacturer to develop a phone with a great battery will do well!
Do you think the device was value for money?
Slightly overpriced
Would you recommend this device?
Yes, its definitely user friendly
What are your favourite apps to use on this device?
Track My Plane and Milk The Cow

Sony Xperia Z2
Paul's Recommended Accessory
Review
What device are you currently using?I am using the brilliant new flagship phone from Sony, the superlative Xperia Z2
How long have you been using it?About 2 months, I normally get bored quite easily with phones and move on but that doesn't seem to be an issue with the Z2
Why did you purchase this device over others? When I was searching for a new phone, I wanted to combine striking looks, superlative screen quality, class leading performance coupled with the ability to withstand my active lifestyle, the phone's Omni Balance design, 5.2" IPS Full HD screen, Quad-core 2.3Ghz and IP 58 rating delivered everything I was searching for and more, as demonstrated by the brilliant battery performance
What are your favourite features? That's a tough one as there are so many... My top 3 favourite features are the 20.7MP G Lens Camera which captures videos and stills at amazing quality no matter the setting (even under water) or scene.Next, the IP 58 rating provides for a very durable phone that can be submerged in fresh water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters, you can take pictures and videos under the water, very cool!
What are your least favourite features?Hmmm...... I don’t really have a least favourite feature but the one I would use the least is the 4K recording but that’s only because I don’t have a 4K TV....yet, just shows the phone is future proofed
Lastly, the 3200 mAh battery coupled with the Quad-core 2.3 Ghz ensures class leading performance and provides the long lasting battery life to enjoy it
What do you think of the performance of the device? The performance of the handset is what you would expect from a Sony flagship, class leading camera, outstanding performance, for the user this means you can have multiple apps running with no lag and excellent battery performance
Is there anything that you would change or enhance? The only thing I would change is the addition of an IR blaster or FM Transmitter but that’s me being pedantic!!
Would you recommend this device?I would recommend this handset, most definitely!!!
What are your favourite apps to use on this device? My favourite would be Sky Go, watching my favourite show on the go in amazing quality on the Z2 is a brilliant feeling. But any app looks and performs great on this powerhouse of a flagship
What must have accessory are you using with this deviceI love that Sony always offer a smorgasbord of quality, lifestyle oriented accessories. My favourites are the Sony Smart Watch SW2, the new Sony Smart Band and the Sony SRS BTV5 speaker! I also love the Roxfit ‘made for Xperia’ Executive Book Case!

Fónua Consumer ElectronicsWith our heritage firmly based in the Telecommunications sector, it should come as no surprise that Fónua has within the past 24 months begun to look to the wider consumer electronics retail market as a prime area for future expansion.
As the lines become blurred between traditional mobile technologies and IT, we can see all of the mobile OEMs take centre stage in the area of mobile computing and PC replacement technology. Given our strong ties to major Tier 1 OEM brands like Samsung, Sony, Alcatel, Nokia and Huawei, we are well placed to be at the cutting edge of new technologies as they emerge.
Without doubt, the leading product in this area has been the tablet device. The past number of years has seen an astonishing growth in sales volumes and a staggering ramping up of the speed, quality and power of these easily transportable devices. We are now finally reaching a point where tablets have begun to be seen as a viable laptop replacement, not just for personal but for business use as well.
Standalone products aside, we foresee a future where connected devices become more and more prevalent in all areas of life and we aim to present the opportunities for all of our retail partners to profit from this shift in lifestyle trends. From Smart Home technologies to mobile health accessories and lifestyle trackers to media consumption platforms, there will be any number of ways in which we will be able to keep the market fresh and relevant for consumers.
As a sign of our commitment to make serious inroads into the Consumer Electronics retail space, Fónua have recently made a key appointment. John Dennehy has joined Fónua as Head of Consumer Electronics and Business Development, John brings a wealth of industry experience to the team and has worked in various areas of device, entertainment and media distribution to the Irish retail sector. John will focus on channel development and driving our growth in this area by ensuring we are equipped with the most up to date technologies and brand partners in our portfolio.
While there is no such thing in business as a crystal ball with which you can predict the next big trend, we will aim to do just that for our partners and make sure that as opportunities arise, we are best placed to bring them to market.

Hello from FónfixYour accredited repair partnerRetail trade-in Fónfix have a successful retail trade-in proposition which manages all aspects of trade-in, from pricelist maintenance for 200+ devices right through to back-end grading and handset value recovery. We provide a retail trade-in tool which identifies handsets based on IMEI and can provide tailored pricing depending on the handset condition.
We recently completed a major refresh of our trade-in website to make it even better. New functionality allows you to check the status of an individual trade-in, re-print trade-in forms and run scheme volume reports.
Service improvementsHere at Fónfix, we have been hard at work improving our systems to continue providing you with the best service possible. We’re proud to present a few improvements which we have been working on over past last few months.
Estimated handset photosIs the customer questioning why a handset is not covered under warranty? Now, you can give a more detailed answer. We now provide images for all handsets which have been estimated for moisture or physical damage.
Awaiting parts lead time updatesIs the customer looking for a lead time update? We now provide estimated part delivery dates so that as soon as we know when to expect the part delivery, you do as well.

Nano-rep customer care Going forward, it will be far easier to find answers to many common questions around repair and trade-in using our new knowledge base. The online support system also facilitates far quicker ticket responses, as queries are automatically directed to the relevant people within our organisation.
Help is here! Hints and tips for using your handset
What is 'Find my iPhone'?On Apple devices, Find my iPhone is a service that allows you to track your iPhone online using your iCloud account, should you ever lose it. Unfortunately, we can’t process any iPhones with Find my iPhone still active! Please make sure you check every iPhone sent to us for repair to make sure this is deactivated. This is easy to do on the device by simply going to Settings > iCloud. If active, the customer can disable this with their iCloud password.
Automatically backing-up your photosLosing important photos from your phone is a nightmare scenario —and is easily avoidable thanks to a range of services across iOS, Android and Windows phones.Free services like Dropbox (Apple and Android) and inbuilt OS specific services (like Apple’s iCloud, Windows Phone’s One Drive and Google’s Drive) will automatically upload photos as you take them, saving you the hassle and protecting your memories.
Getting the most from your batteryDid you know that the way you use your handset dramatically affects it’s battery performance? Try the following steps to squeeze more time between charges:
• Reduce the screen brightness• Switch off battery-draining services such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location settings when not in use• Minimise apps open at once, particularly ones running in the background like Skype or Viber

Store of the QuarterHi Fónua,
I would like to nominate our store in Clonmel for your Store of the Quarter award. The store recently relocated to a new larger premises and the staff have adapted very well to the new store layout. They have continued to bring in sales, with some healthy on going competition between staff members (they are very competitive with their accessory sales and are always checking who has sold the most accessories throughout the day). They ranked 1st place in May in the Vodafone ranking out of 83 Accred stores so I think they deserve the award this quarter!
Thanks,Juanita O’Donnell - Area Manager - The Phone Stores
Congratulations The Phone Stores, Clonmel
If you would like to see your store receive the award next quarter please send in your nomination. Winners are chosen on the nomination supplied so please include as much information as possible. Please send the nomination to [email protected]
