I am so deeply appreciative for the many gestures, calls, texts, and notes you have sent to express your sympathy to me and my family upon the death of my mother. Trinity was a special place for Mom, even as it is for our family. Whenever she visited you made her not only feel welcomed, but you also honored her as the mother of your pastor. Many of you did very special things for her over these last 15 years, for which I am deeply grateful.

As a pastor, I often read passages of scripture meant to comfort those who are going through death or encourage those who are struggling or to lead others to thanksgiving in moments of joy. We all know that some passages of scripture take on more meaning depending on our current circumstances. In this way, the Bible is a living word to us. Its ability to comfort, encourage, and challenge never loses its power. The Holy Spirit that inspired its writing also dwells in the life of the Christian, and when the Christian reads the inspired word something marvelous occurs. The Holy Spirit can use these ancient words, which were written in a time so different than ours, to come alive and speak to us. This past week, I have found myself counting on God’s promises like we all do when we go through the valley of the shadow of death. A passage I often read at the graveside of others continues to bring me comfort. I share it with you and hope that you will reflect on its meaning not only for the end of life but for the living of our days.

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. According to the Lord’s Word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4: 14-18.

I look forward to being with you in worship this coming Sunday, as we come together to read God’s Word and we listen for God’s Word to us.

Thank You for Your Willingness to Serve!

We need a team of 10 to begin construction of a block sanctuary for Sand Hills Baptist Church, North of Belize City.

This is the church where Henry Baizar is pastor and it is growing with young families and children. They have a small sanctuary and several classrooms now. They need to renovate the existing sanctuary into children’s classroom space, as well as a weekday preschool for working parents. But that cannot be done before the construction of the new sanctuary. This will be a multiple year project involving multiple NC CBF sister churches and the congregation at Sand Hills.

The team needs to come together quickly – we need to purchase the plane tickets. Please contact Hal at [email protected] or 919-787-3740 to volunteer. Financial assistance is available to TBC members through the Shaw Missions Fund. Deadline for sign-up is Sunday, November 9. DON’T WAIT – volunteer today.

Special thanks to Kevin Gard and to our Student Choirs for their worship leadership this past Sunday morning. We are inching ever so closely to Christmas and we will hear from our students once again as they lead in the Hanging of the Greens Service. All of our musicians and choirs are working diligently to be ready for our Christmas season music. Also, I am grateful for my leadership who filled in for me while I have been on vacation. Special thanks to Karen Trachtman, Linda Dollar and Kim Mays, Joy Blashaw, and Jessica Isaacs for stepping up to the plate and keeping things going while I was away. What a true gift it is to have both their musical leadership as well as friendship!

Our Preschool Choir, Children’s Choirs, Student Choirs, and Sanctuary Choir are all preparing for the Hanging of the Greens Service on November 23. Also, the Flower Committee has been preparing for this day over many months. We are indebted to Hollie Cox and the incredible amount of time that this working committee puts into this celebration. Many people do not realize the amount of time and commitment that this team offers for this incredibly musical and beautiful service at Trinity. Please pray for all of our musicians and our Flower Committee as they continue to work now and throughout the year.

Words from Carla

As the leaves change color and begin to fall off the trees, I am reminded of how awesome our God is. He gave us beauty in our earthly world filled with color to enjoy. I am also reminded just how fast time moves whether we want it to or not. Enjoying this time of the year is important, but before you know it things will look different, weather will change, and soon there will be a picture of bareness on the trees. At that time we will all want spring to hurry and come bringing back the color and refreshing our souls.

Our time with our children goes extremely fast too. When you are in the moment of changing diapers, feeding, potty training, cleaning up, running from here to there it may seem like the day will never end. I assure you that it does and that phase of life will become a part of the past and when you look back you will be able to see that it wasn’t so bad. You constantly move from one phase of parenting to the next. As much as we sometimes wish for a brighter day or a more colorful season when times get tough, I encourage you to enjoy each moment. God does give us blessings in the hardest of times. To me they can easily be seen when looking in the eyes of a child.

I encourage you to consistently set aside time to be with your children. Children need your attention and your time. Before you know it, the time has passed and it is something you cannot get back. Enjoy each phase of the journey. God has blessed you with one of His greatest gifts, take many moments and enjoy! Jesus took time for little children, shouldn’t we?

But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
