In the new season, VPAC gets serious. Serious about presenting and producing performances across a broad spectrum. This would be a good year to become a series subscriber and immerse yourself in theater, classical music, or dance. Or to expand your horizons across the globe as VPAC explores World and Latin music.

Don’t get me wrong. We know how to have a good time. We will bring you a new series featuring the big band sound — crisp horns and a swinging rhythm section! On November 1 we celebrate Día de los Muertos with political satirists Culture Clash in an evening of music and comedy that is sure to lighten the mood one week before the Presidential election. We call this mash-up Vote or Die Laughing.

The season also includes the serious talents of the superstars — Tyne Daly, Jerry Herman, Wynton Marsalis, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Doc Severinsen, Lila Downs, and Aida Cuevas are among their ranks. And for the second year, I have invited artists to bring to VPAC perfor-mances that can only be seen here. These one- of-a-kind creations are noted on pages 24 and 25 ("VPAC originals").

Our commitment to families continues with our Sunday matinee series. This year’s series reads like a storybook, with visually stunning theater and dance pieces from around the world. Turn the pages to find a colorful book-within-the-book that shares the family matinees and World Music performances.

I know that your total VPAC experience is important. Beginning this season, full priced tickets and subscriptions will include the cost of parking. This new perk among other ongoing improvements make VPAC one of the best arts and entertainment values in Los Angeles. A series subscription gets you a prime seat for the action.

One exciting performance is our second annual Alumni Concert featuring Serj Tankian, lead singer of System Of A Down.

From the moment you enter the building, the award-winning design takes your breath away.

VPAC’s superior acoustic environment envelops you in the moment. A VPAC experience is an unforgettable experience.

With more than 300,000 alumni, 40,000 students and 10,000 graduates every year, CSUN pumps hundreds of millions of dollars back into the region’s economy and generates 12,000 jobs every year. CSUN is a university where students are given the opportunity to achieve more than they imagined possible — to rise higher than their own dreams and aspirations. The artists who grace VPAC’s stage also illuminate and inspire. VPAC, like CSUN, is a catalyst, elevating us all.

Enjoy perusing the multifaceted artists who will be coming to VPAC in the next year. I encourage you to experience the performing arts as they are meant to be experienced.
