1. Course Completion: Students will satisfy Ohio’s curriculum requirements and any additional local requirements. Students will complete the state minimum 20 units, with specific units required in each content area. Students will also need to meet Tallmadge curriculum requirements for graduation.

2. Competency Demonstration: Students will demonstrate competency in the foundational areas of English language arts and mathematics or through alternative demonstrations, which include College Credit Plus, career-focused activities or military enlistment. Scores required on ELA II ______ and ALG ______. Alternate options to demonstrate competency include College Credit Plus courses (ELA, math), Career Technical Education, and enlistment in the military.

3. Readiness Demonstration: Students will demonstrate readiness for their post-high school paths by earning two seals that allow them to demonstrate important foundational and well-rounded academic and technical knowledge, professional skills, social and emotional competencies, and leadership and reasoning skills. At least one seal earned must be a state-defined seal.

Permanent Graduation Pathway

Graduation SealsOhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal: Must meet requirements and criteria established by the state.

Science Seal: Earn a proficient score (700+) on the biology EOC. AP and CCP courses and scores also apply.

State Seal of Biliteracy: Proficiency requirements must be met on world language or English assessments.

Honors Diploma: Earn one of the six state-defined honors diplomas.

Industry-Recognized Credential Seal: Earn an approved credential in an in demand job.

Technology Seal: Earn a “B” or better in a CCP computer science course or complete a computer science course through our district.

College-Ready Seal: Earn remediation-free scores on the ACT or SAT. **Community Service Seal: Complete 20 hours of community service. Service must be documented. Service will be embedded into American Studies and Government starting in 2020-2021 school year.

Military Enlistment Seal: Must provide evidence of enlistment in a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

**Fine and Performing Arts Seal: Complete four fine arts courses 2.5+ GPA in those courses. Students may apply for credit flex; 500 hours must be documented. Students who earn a scholastic gold key, participate in two dramatic productions, or earn an OMEA superior rating also qualify.

Citizenship Seal: Earn a proficient score (700+) on the American History and Government EOC. AP and CCP courses and scores can also apply.

**Student Engagement Seal: Must earn a PE waiver or participate in four extracurricular clubs throughout high school with 80 percent attendance. Participation/attendance must be verified by an advisor.

English Requirements (4 Credits)

● Admission to Honors levels are by teacher recommendation.

● Senior English may only be taken with senior standing

● Honors U.S. History and A.P. U.S. History replace the sophomore and junior requirements. Admission to these two classes by teacher recommendation only.

Health and Physical Education Requirements

● All students must take .50 credit of Health

● All students must take .50 total credits of Physical Education (2 classes)

Physical Education (.25 credits) should be taken prior to Weight Training (.25 credit) or Wellness Training (.50 credits)

Advanced Health/Health Careers (1 credit) is available for those interested in exploring careers in healthcare

Students who participate in two full seasons of interscholastic athletics, marching band or cheerleading may earn .5 credits of physical education. See the Program Planning Guide for details.

Interdepartmental Electives

● Office Aide allows a student to earn .50 credit as a pass/fail grade to be an office assistant and to run errands for the administration. This is by application only for 11th & 12th graders. See Mrs. Drenan for an application.

and dual enrollment are now called College Credit Plus.

Parents are required to meet with the counselor to sign a letter of intent the year before students participate in CCP.

Students can now view 15 and 30 credit hour pathways at the universities, and some universities are changing their admission requirements to make CCP more accessible to students.

Fine Arts Electives

MUST have one credit of a Fine or Performing Art

● Basic Art is required before Studio and Advanced Studio Art.

● Art & Technology has a prerequisite of Basic Art. It is the study of digital media as a means of communication and artistic expression.

● A.P. Studio Art Drawing, 2D, or 3D must be taken in conjunction with Honors Studio first semester as a preparation for the portfolio. Teacher recommendation required.

● Drama is offered to grades 9-12, Advanced Drama is available to students who have completed Drama.

● Newswriting is a pre-requisite for Journalism. You will learn that unique style of writing.

● Annual Staff and Devils’ Tale editors are recommended to take both semesters. If you can fit in both semesters of ANNUAL, please schedule both to help with continuity.

Math Electives

● ALEKS is a web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS provides the advantage of one-on-one instruction 24/7 from any web-based computer. ○ ALEKS is the ACT remediation course for students failing to

meet the non-remediation cut-off score on the mathematics part of the ACT.

● Computer Science Principles with AP option (new offering)

○ Focuses on learning programming language, algorithms, data, etc.

○ Students passing this course with a B or better can earn the Technology graduation seal.

○ Students may take this as an AP course, and will take the AP in May of 2021.

● Criminal Justice this class covers the

organization of the United States legal system. Local officials and experts will speak.

(Grades 11-12)

● Economics students will engage in a

computerized environment to conduct economic research and application of fundamental concepts. (Grades 11-12)

● Psychologygives student a broad overview

of the study of psychology, emphasizing human development, personality and social interactions(Grades 11-12)

● A.P. Psychologyis a challenging and rigorous
