Golan Levin develops artifacts and events which explore supple new modes of reactive expression. His work focuses on the design of systems for the creation, manipulation and performance of simultaneous image and sound, as part of a more general inquiry into the formal language of interactivity, and of nonverbal

The Interactive Bar Tables (2004: Golan Levin and Zachary Lieber-man with the production of Ars Electronica Futurelab) are an interactive installation for cafe-like social venues, and an early exam-ple of a multi-touch surface in interactive art. The project forms the natural habitat of a species of creatures that exhibits a unique pattern of social behavior. When someone touches the surface of their virtual terrarium, these digital organisms react with playful curiosity. They flock to drinking glasses placed in their vicinity like hungry sharks, and teem around everything that enters their world. But have no fear: they don’t bite. If you catch one with your fingers, it will follow your movements, and you can send it on

alone, the creatures descend back into the depths of their digital environment. In this way, the colorful organisms become part of a communicative game involving the users of the Interactive Bar Tables.

Just mentioning the Amore Pacific

Display means motion and clarity of water provided the ultimate theme for the in-store display. Products are showcased on circular resin pads that appear to float on a shelf of continuously running water. Behind them, the interactive display suggests a wall of water that ripples in the wake of customer motion through the space. When a cus-tomer approaches a product display, words emerge from within the watery surface or on the wall behind the product, promoting thoughts of balance and purity, then wash away as the customer moves elsewhere in the store.

This direct connection between interest

AMORE PACIFIC DISPLAYand information builds an immediate bond between user and product, increasing the likelihood that browsing will become buying. And because the textual display is sufficiently prominent to be legible to other people in the store, it provides a silent, elegant way for customers to share their experiences.

Paul Klotz (1975) is an applied art engineer and lightdesigner, specialised in manufacturing interactive, embedded system based installations. Main point of the interactive part is to involve the visitor/ inhabitant and create feedback between man and installation. The actings and presence of the visitors, environmental conditions and the desired emotion, form a steering part of the concept. ‘Light makes us see buildings, textures, colors and people. This is something I refuse to take for granted’ Klotz says.

Klotz is constantly developing new lighto-bjects and related projects in collaborating with specialists from different area’s.LED-Art provides high quality products and services: interactive light art, lightdesign, concultancy and installations for both interior and exterior architecture. For example: pub-lic spaces, clubs, galleries, shows, festivals, casino’s etc.

Tunnel Vision is an interactive light and sound installation inspired by Nicolas Tesla.

The shape of the work is based upon an abstaction of the 100Hz buzz tone produced by electrical generators. This effect is known as magnetostriction; a property of ferromagnetic materials that causes them to change their shape when subjected to a magnetic field.

Invasion is composed by 12 Alien like creatures are rapidly changing color and synchronously making sounds. Invasion is refering indirectly to mankind’s natural urge to envolve, innovate and gain more power. (Un)fortunately this process only seems to lead to stagnation.

512Pb is an interactive lightinstal-lation consisting out of 8 matrices of 64 bright white LEDs.The LEDs are individually adressible and give shape to the X- Y- en Z-coordinates of a one cubic meter cube.

The goal of this installation is to experiment with virtual boundries. How can art in public spaces have an effect on people and visa versa?

512PB The MIMIC camerasystem of KITT Engineer-ing captures the movements of visitors. The processed data is directly translated into fascinating lightanimations.

In 1994 when ART+COM received commissions of commercial projects the organisation became officially a company with limited liability. Since 1998 the design studio is owned mainly by its employees, board members as well as the former organisation members.

From the very beginning ART+COM has pio-neered the development of this medium, and has conceived and realized communication

Ranging from artistic installations and design-focused projects to technological innovations and inventions, ART+COM’s work includes different kinds of formats: Autoactive, reactive and interac-tive objects and installations, media-based environments and architectures.

Numbers are commonly seen as quantitative measures of enti-ties. Depending on the context however, they often also have religious, historical, mathematical and philosophical meanings. floating.numbers attempts to bring back this often forgotten or unknown layer of meaning into their interpretation in the age of digital determinism.

Floating numbers is a 9 x 2 meter interactive table on which a continuous stream of num-bers is floating. Individual digits appear ran-domly at the surface and, once touched by a visitor, reveal their meaning in text, pictures, animation and small interactive applications.

EXPOSED: FLOATING NUMBERS The significance of the numbers materialises from the various perspectives of sociol-ogy, religion, history, mathematics, art or one’s outlook on everyday life. Numbers are commonly seen as quantitative measures of entities. Depending on the context however, they often also have religious, historical, mathematical and philosophical meanings. floating.numbers attempts to bring back this often forgotten or unknown layer of meaning into their interpretation in the age of digital determinism.

The sicence of Aliens and what they might really look like, is the theme of the exhibition “The Science of Aliens“. The touring exhibition had its premiere at the London Science Museum in October 2005 and has been shown in Science Museums in North America, Europe and Asia since then.

ART+COM created an interactive room for the exhibition where visitors can get in direct touch with aliens. The creatures living on the planets, “Aurelia“ and “Blue Moon“, move

THE SCIENCE OF ALIENS dynamically through virtual landscapes. They are generated in real time. Visitors interact with the two worlds via a touchsensitive sur-face of two meters width and about seven meters length, developed by ART+COM.
