FOLDING PAPER CRANES FOR A SENBAZURUBY TIANYU LI

Background Information

The Senbazuru is perfect as a gift, as a decoration, and a set of many paper cranes combination. There is an ancient legendary in Asian describing that if people make a Senbazuru, it will help to achieve desires such as living to be a hundred or recovering from serious health problems.

In order to make a Senbazuru, you must first create several paper cranes repetitively following the steps 1-18. Then you can use needle and thread to connect them together to make a Senbazuru through the step 19.

The paper cranes are delicate, but surprisingly easy and fun to fold, so don't hesitate to give this craft a try. The first time you make a paper crane; expect to spend 20 minutes on folding. After folding 2 to 3 successful paper crane, you may spend only 3 minutes to make a beautiful and magnificent paper crane. If you want to know how to do it, just follow these steps in the document below.

Materials

Square origami paper, Needle and thread Scissors Clear table space Patience

Troubleshooting Tips

When you fold the paper, you do not want to use heavy strength to fold, which may tear the paper

The bottom of paper crane is very thick since you fold the paper in several layers. Put the cranes on the table when you use needle and thread.

Do not push the body from the top after making a 3D volume, which may hard to repair

Take your time and the finished product will be much better.

1Starr with a square sheet of origami

paper.

2Fold the paper in half into a rectangle.

Fold the top of the paper down until the top edge aligns with bottom edge of the paper

and then crease. Unfold the paper.

3Fold it in half the other way.

Fold vertically from left to right. Crease then unfold. You should end up with a cross

crease.

4Flip the paper and fold the paper

diagonally.Fold the top right corner down to the bottom left corner. Crease then unfold. Fold the top left corner down to the bottom right corner.

Crease then unfold.

5Follow the two middle lines and one

diagonal crease. You'll have a top that resembles a kite.

6Bring the right corner of the top flap to

the middle crease. This will make it so that the lower right

edge lines up with the crease.

7Fold down the top corner to make the

crease lie along the horizontal line created by the previous step.

It looks like a diamond.

8Unfold the last three folds.

After you do this, you'll return to having a square with an opening that faces down.

9Fold the bottom corner of the square up

along the horizontal crease from the previous steps up to the top corner.

Reverse the two creases on the upper flap by folding it in the opposite direction that it

naturally folds. Bring the outer edges of the paper to the middle and flatten it. This will

create a diamond shape with two flaps sticking out on the right and left sides.

10Turn the paper over and repeat steps 6-9.

You need to pay attention to the crease alignment on the other side of the paper.

11Fold the outer edges of the diamond to the

middle crease. You need to crease a little bit harder than

previous steps at this time since the paper has more layers.

12Fold the right flap over to the left.

Do this as you would turn the page of a book. Then, turn over the shape. Repeat

step 11 on this side. Then fold the right flap over to the left again.

13Fold the bottom tip of the top flap up to

the top corner.Turn over and repeat on the other side.

14Fold the right flap over to the left.

Again, do this as you would turn the page of a book. Turn over and repeat on the back.

Now the head and tail are nestled in between what will become the wings.

15Fold the wings down so that they are

perpendicular to the body, head, and tail. You need to leave some space at the bottom

of the wings to make a nice shape.

16Fold the tip of the head down.

Be patient! You are almost done here!

17Pull the head and tail out so that they line

up with the outer edges of the body.Do not stretch so much at this time.

18Create 3D volume.

If you want a three dimensional body, you can grasp the opposite corners on the

bottom of the body and gently pull the shape to create the desired volume.

19Use needle and thread connecting them

together. You can either choose body center or

bottom center to connect them.
