Mads Pedersen.Alfred Pedersen & Søn

With company branches in both Denmark and Sweden and a total area of 22 hectares Alfred Pedersen and Son is Scandinavia’s largest tomato gro-wer. When the company wanted to expand their use of growth light, the choice fell on the Sunspot Tomato Refl ector, which is now being used in 1,5 hectares of the greenhouses.

Mads: “We have tested the Sunspot Tomato Refl ector and they have re-sulted in a larger yield. The extra costs can therefore be returned within a few years.”

The design of the luminaire ensures a low temperature for the gear which keeps the maintenance costs down. The lower temperature protects the gear and ensures a longer lifespan of the product.

Mads: “We have experienced lower maintenance costs when using Sunspot Tomato Refl ector.”

More Growth Light for Tomato PlantsWith the Sunspot Tomato Refl ector more growth light is obtained on a lar-ger area of the tomato plant compared to competing products. The refl ector is developed specifi cally to create as much light as possible for tomato plants. With the products design the growth light is focused not only on the higher placed leaves, but it also lets the light refl ect to the lower leaves. This leads to a signifi cantly larger amount of growth light reaching the plants making photosynthesis.

The increased amount of growth light is obtained because of the asymme-trical refl ection as seen in the illustration:

The fi gure below shows the difference between the Sunspot Tomato Re-fl ector and a comparable competing product. The statistics build on hund-reds of measurements on both plants and rails as seen in the above fi gure. On average almost 20 % more growth light reaches the plants.
