Focus Group

Page 2: Focus group

What kind of music will your magazine focus on?

• Pop/Dance• Because it appeals to a lot of people our age and is one of

the biggest genres at the moment• There is also no pop/dance magazines in the UK which cater

towards the adult market, as they all focus of pre-teen girls and talk about their favourites

• This means that there is a wide audience

• My focus group said that it was a good genre to pick as a wide variety of people listen to pop/dance music, and there aren’t many magazines which focus at a more adult market in the UK.

What will your magazine be called?

• Alpha• Designed like this:

• Because it is first letter of the greek alphabet and it common language it is used to say the best/strongest

• My focus group agreed with my choice of title and design, saying that the name was memorable while also describing the brand, and the design was unique and made them think of pop/dance music. They did say that the colour could be brighter however.

Will you feature a single artist or a band on your Front Cover?

• I will feature a single artist as the majority of artists in the pop/dance music genre, and the biggest artists of the moment are solo artists.

• It will also be a woman, as the biggest pop stars of the moment are women

• The focus group agreed with me because they thought it was reminiscent of the genre, and a bigger group of people would be drawn to a female cover start than a male

What kind of article will be on your double page spread?

• The article on my double page spread will be an exclusive interview with my cover star

• I have decided to do this because it carries through a theme, and also gives the magazine a sense of occasion as it’s a EXCLUSIVE

• Because of my questionnaire, I will have an equal amount of text and photos on the DPS

• The focus group agreed with this choice because they thought an exclusive interview with the cover star would make them want the magazine more, and it would create a better connection throughout the magazine

What colour scheme will your magazine have?

• The colour scheme my magazine will have is a monochrome design (black and white) with use of neon colours for the standout points

• This is because it helps to accentuate the important points• The black and white looks classy and makes the neon ‘pop’ more• My questionnaire wanted neon purple for title

• My focus group agreed with my choices. They said if I hadn’t have come up with the idea of sparingly using colour they would have said make it as colourful as possible, but that they now thought the slight use of colour would make the magazine unique and make the colourful parts stand out more.

How much will it cost?

• £2.99• This is what the questionnaire thought a

monthly pop/dance magazine was worth

• The focus group agreed with this because they thought anyhting above this would turn them off buying regularly, but that much lower would make them think the magazine was low quality.
