Dear Friends,

LIVING IN THE MOMENT

Do you ever feel that time is passing by and you are not keeping up with it? Or, are you worry-ing about something that may happen in the future? Or, are you feeling guilty about some-thing that happened in the past?

The truth is that you are making up these thoughts—and that’s all they are—THOUGHTS. It may not be easy tobecome aware of the PRESENT MOMENT. But you CAN train yourself to be aware of what you are thinking.

The good news is that the CONFRONTING MOMENT IS ALL THERE IS…ALL THERE EVER WAS INYOUR LIFE…ALL THERE EVER WILL BE…AND IT IS YOUR FUTURE. Didn’t you first get the thought to take acertain action that led to the job you may have in the confronting moment? You first met the man or woman who becameyour spouse—in the confronting moment. You saw a book on a shelf that may have led you into Truth—in the confrontingmoment.

Many times human beings wait for life to become perfect, but you can start working in the confronting moment byworking with what you’ve got. Accept it, bless it, give thanks. We all have God-Given Gifts, which we can give to othersas we, together, walk this Spiritual path!

There is ABUNDANCE IN EVERY DAY, and by living in the present moment, you will experience God’s gifts.Staying in the NOW, doing your best, and participating fully today are all you need to do—to assure yourself that what’sgoing to happen tomorrow will be for your Highest Good.

Blessings—In this Sacred Moment, Rev. Joanne Murphy

Remembering Robert Ermatinger and

Cindy SteinBy Flo Higgins

Two members of our church community made their tran-sition in April—Robert Ermatinger on April 6 and CindyStein on April 11.

Cindy was basically new to Unity by the Shore and was a de-voted student in the Thursday afternoon classes taught by Rev.Joanne. She was also planning to become a member of thechurch and was a student in the New Member class now under-way. Cindy was also a long time student of Unity and she lovedher studies. She was a devoted daughter and a mother. She wasalso the proud niece of the well known movie star Jack Nichol-son. She would tell wonderful stories of her life with her UncleJack. We miss her and know she has made a beautiful transition.

Robert, or “Bob” as he was known to most of us, served thechurch well. He was on the church Board of Trustees in the1990’s and again in 2003, as a replacement treasurer. His loveof Unity by the Shore reached everyone in the congregation onSundays when he would sit in the same place, four or five rowsfrom the back in a left aisle seat and looked serious as he lis-tened.

Rev. Joanne Murphy praised his service to this church com-munity, and made note of those personal memories during thegraveside service. “He served Unity by the Shore for manyyears,” she said. When I came to the church in 2000, I would begiving the Lesson on Sunday and I would look back at Bob andfeel like he didn’t approve or just wasn’t getting it. But just thisweek I was reminiscing with his good friend, Lois Davis, whomBob would drive to church each Sunday. She told me that on thedrive home Bob would share his real feelings about my Lesson. He would tell Lois he was going to practice what Joanne wastalking about. He felt she was talking directly to him. Now whoever knew what Bob was thinking? Only the God inside of himknew.”

Barbara Ely, who has a long history of volunteer work withthe church, knew Bob well. “He was diligent in his work. He of-fered his skills as a businessman, which was an asset to thechurch. He also loved the church food after the service. He wasoften the first in the line,” she said.

Bob was serious about his faith in God and Unity teachings, but when he talked of his travels or his volunteer work with help-ing people at the Ocean County SCORE, his keen sense ofhumor could be seen. His trip to Africa was one of the highlightsof his life. He loved sharing the tales of that trip.

Ann Dungan Maisch, now of Florida, was President of theBoard when Bob served as Treasurer she says, “Bob had a giftof imagination and order that served the church well during mytenure as President of the Board. He was a devoted student ofUnity and gave his time freely to serve the church. It was anhonor to serve with him,” she added.’

Debbie O’Brien, our church office manager, also worked withBob years ago and said, “He was informative and helpful. It wasa pleasure to work with him. He will be missed.”

President’s

Message

Angela Denton ([email protected])

The radiant light of the sun warms our bodies and souls as itstays awake a little bit longer into the evening. The fragrantscent of cherry blossoms, lilacs, daffodils, and tulips perme-

ate the air, as as do the chorus of birds who have returned home todelight us with their morning song. During the season of spring,we come out of hibernation and experience the palpable promise ofnew life.

New life is also present in our spiritual community: Mary Vercande has stepped forward to head our Building andGrounds Committee and will be joined by Co-chairwoman GwenLewis, Vice President of the Board, after she recovers from her re-cent surgery. I ask you to continue to hold her in healing prayer, affirming that the divine intelligence within her body restores herto the experience of Wholeness. Gwen also is passionate aboutbringing opportunities of fellowship and fun to our community byorganizing social events in the near future.

Orsini Sanchez, member of the Board, blesses our communityby sharing his gifts of enthusiasm, wisdom, and passion as he fa-cilitates for the first time at UBTS The Prosperity Plus Program cre-ated by Rev. Mary Morrissey held on Tuesday evenings.

Rachael Fredericks, Secretary of the Board and head of the FundRaising committee, is seeking support and input from the Boardand the community in launching viable fund raising events thatwould promote fellowship and joy experienced through the reci-procity of the law of giving and receiving at UBTS and in our localarea.

Commencing this Spring and continuing throughout the yearwill be spiritual enrichment sessions for the Board. Topics to be ex-plored are: core values, healing/conflict resolution, identifying per-sonality types and spiritual gifts, visioning and strategic planning, creation of surveys to assess areas of functioning in UBTS, out-reach/in-reach, and increasing consciousness within our communitythrough prayer, support, and education.

Additionally, the Board of Trustees will institute interactive“Meet, Greet, and Share” sessions throughout the year. The purposeof these gatherings is to increase the opportunity for members andfriends to become informed in the ideas and business affairs of theBoard, as well as to provide the community with opportunities toshare their creative ideas with the Board. These sessions are sched-uled to occur after Sunday services on May 5, 2013, July 28, 2013,and October 27, 2013. More details will be shared via email andthrough announcements made on Sunday.

Lastly, opportunities to serve are available on the following min-istry teams: - Audio/Sound- Policy and Procedures- Fund Raising

Please email me at [email protected] or speak to me atUBTS if you are interested in serving on any of the above teams.

Lesson:10:30 a.m.

Workshop: 12:30 p.m.

How do you share yours?

We are all unique beings and as such have uniquegifts to offer the world.

Joy and love rejuvenate our beings when we activelyshare our gifts.

Sometimes we hesitate to show up in the world or areunsure about the real nature of our gifts. At some levelwe already know some of them.

It takes courage to acknowledge our gifts and to speakof them to others.

We may even have hidden gifts to share. There arethree types of gifts available for us to share.

You are invited to discover your hidden gifts and to in-crease your ability to share them in your life.

The afternoon workshop provides a powerful opportunity

to release the barriers to sharing your gifts and to tap into

the creative spirit to manifest them in the world. Specific

strategies to actualize your gifts will be discussed.

REGISTER for the Workshop at the church or by calling 732-

Our Environment: A Month of Detox

By Ingrid Justick

Here are simple ways to cleanse and energize your bodyevery day for a healthy Spring cleanse. A detox can helpcleanse your liver, colon and kidneys of toxins; clear your

skin and boost your energy. Create a cleaner lifestyle that allowsyou to detox around the clock and achieve long-term results.- Eat Super Foods. They are rich in antioxidants, fiber and healingcompounds that naturally detox your body. Focus on leafy greens, broccoli, blueberries, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and prunes.- Skip the Sugar. Whole foods are the best sweeteners. Good op-tions include palm, coconut sugar, unfiltered raw honey, or my fa-vorite, Stevia.- Go Organic. Most foods contain pesticides, herbicides, antibi-

otics, hormones and other chemicals that hamper detox efforts.- Purify Your Pantry. Remove everything that contains high fruc-tose corn syrup, trans-fats and hydrogenated oils, artificial flavorsand colors, preservatives and other harsh chemicals. Stock up onbeans and lentils. They are high in clean protein and rich in fiber tosweep toxins out of the intestines. Cook you own dried beans, be-cause most linings in canned foods contain BPA, an endocrine dis-rupter.- Tone the Liver. Use bitter greens, artichokes and the herb milkthistle to help stimulate liver function.- Cleanse Unwanted Chemicals from Your Diet. Eliminate allfoods containing the following toxic ingredients: sodium nitrate, propyl gallate, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hy-droxytoluene (BHT).- Cook Healthy. Dispose of pots and pans that are coated withTeflon, SilverStone and other coverings that emit harmful chemi-cals.- Purify Your Water. Toxins found in water can include fluoride, chlorine, pharmaceutical residue and other chemicals. Invest in agood water filter.- Steam Your Food. Heating oils can create toxins. Instead sautévegetables in 1/4 inch of water, or steam foods in a steam basket.- De-Plasticize. Plastics contain chemicals that burden the liver, kidneys and lymphatic system. Banish plastic wrap from yourhome, never heat plastic in the microwave and avoid foods pack-aged in plastics. Invest in glass or metal containers and water bot-tles.- Personal Care Products. The skin absorbs chemicals. Avoid per-sonal care products that contain parabens, phthalates and other syn-thetic compounds.

- Meditate. Or take a 15-minute quiet time. It is essential for re-lieving stress and supporting detox.

Last, but not least, exercise, exercise, exercise!
