ABOUT OSUN STATE

sun (pronounced “O” Shoon) is an inland state in South-West Nigeria. Its capital is Osogbo. It is bounded in the North by Kwara State, in the East partly by Ekiti State and partly by Ondo State, in the South by Ogun State and in the West by Oyo State. Osun is home to several of Nigeria's most famous landmarks, including the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria's pre-eminent institution of higher learning. The University is also located in the ancient town of Ile-Ife, and important early centre of political and religious development of Yoruba culture. Other important cities and towns includes the ancient kingdom-capitals of Oke- Ila Orangun, Ila Orangun, Ijebu-Jesa, Ede, Iwo, Ejigbo, Modakeke, Obokun, Ifetedo, Esa-Oke, Ilesa and Igbajo.

The Modern Osun was created in August 27, 1991 from part of the old Oyo State. The state's name is derived from River Osun, the venerated natural spring that is the manifestation of the Yoruba goddess of the same name. Important cultural events in the state include the Ori-Oke and Egungun festival in Iragbiji, Olojo in Ife and Osun Osogbo festival.

Every year, adherents and non-adherents of Osun, one of the Orisa (the traditional deities of Yoruba people), travel from all over the world to attend the annual Osun-Osogbo festival in August. Visitors include nationals of Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad, Grenada and other nations in the Americas with a significant Yoruba cultural heritage. Annual traditional festivities and invocations of the Osun goddess are held along the banks of the river bearing her name into which – according to Yoruba Oratory traditions – she transformed.

Osun-Osogbo Grove, the shrine of the Annual rites of the deity and an important artistic centre, was declared a World Heritage Site in 2005.

The major sub-ethnic groups in Osun are Ile-Ife, Ijesha, Oyo, Ibolo and Igbomina of the Yoruba people, although there are also people from other parts of Nigeria. Yoruba and English are the official languages. People of Osun State practice Islam, Christianity and their ancient religion, the traditional faith.

de is a town in State of Osun, South-West Nigeria. It lies along the Osun river at a point on the rail road from Lagos, 180 Kilometers Southwest, and at the intersection of roads from Osogbo, Ogbomoso and Ife.

ABOUT EDE

Ede is one of the older towns of the Yoruba people. It is traditionally said to have been founded about 1500 by Timi Agbala, a hunter and warlord sent by Alaafin (King) Kori of old Oyo (Katunga), capital of Oyo Empire, to establish a settlement to protect the Oyo caravan route to Benin (204 km or 127mi Southeast). Nearby towns include Awo, Iragberi and Oshogbo.The present Ede was established by Timi Kubolaje Agbonran around 1817 along with his siblings Yefi, Ajenju, Arohanran and Oduniyi, all being the descendants of Lalemo. The former Ede is known as Ede-Ife.

thEde is a predominantly Muslim town with about 90% of the population. This can be traced back to 19 century during the reign of TimiAbibu Lagunjuas the King of Ede, who is most likely the first Muslim Oba in Yorubaland given the fact that he was already on the throne for a few years when in November 1857, the Baptist Missionary W.H. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTSMembers wishing to present scientific research papers should submit their abstracts which should be limited to one A4 size paper text only without figures, tables and references but containing titles, author's and co-author's full names i.e. surname, first name and other names, membership number (for members) and the main text. The main text should be single spaced text, Times New Roman 10 point and no sectional headings. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 28th September, 2018 and for actual paper is 19th October 2018. The actual paper must be in MS PowerPoint and submitted only after the acceptance of abstract by the ABSTRACT Review Committee. All papers should be sent as an attachment to the e-mail address or Only quality scientific inform@nislt.gov.ng enquiry@nislt.gov.ng.papers will be accepted for presentation at the conference.

PAPER PRESENTATIONS

Authors whose papers are accepted will be allowed only ten minutes to present the highlights of their papers. The full paper earlier submitted will be projected for presentation. Papers not previously accepted will not be allowed for presentation at the venue.
