The Beach Villa’s are all located in the community of Bonita Shores, the city of Bonita Springs. By bike it is a 10 minutes drive to the Bonita Beach, by car just a 5 minutes drive! Bonita Beach has showers, a water scooter/parasailing rental service and a tropical restaurant on the beach. Drink a glass of Barefoot white wine, put your feet in the white sand, feel the warm winds in your hair and enjoy the lazy sunset.Wannabe alone with nature? It is just a 15 minutes bike ride (10 minutes by car) to Barefoot Beach Preserve. You will have to cross the preserve to get to the beach. Watch out for the turtles, they own the place! During the months of July and August you will find sea turtle nests on the beach. The nests are marked by yellow ribbons. Watch the pelicans skim over the tide line and with a little bit of luck you’ll see manatees and dolphins swimming by. The warm water of the Gulf of Mexico invites you to swim every day of the year and the beaches are full of rare shells. Mr. Edison himself and his dear friend Mr. Ford lived as neighbors in Fort Myers for many years. You can visit the laboratory of Mr. Edison where he invented his lamp and take a look in the garage of Mr. Ford to explore for yourself how he build his first car. It is a museum now, beautifully situated along the Caloosahatchee River. Fort Myers beach is a place to enjoy yourself, the fishing pier, surf shops, restaurants and an awesome beach. Naples

Swaying coconut palms and sweeping white-sand beaches, welcome to Florida’s last Paradise! Naples, the Beverly Hills of the east coast, where the rich and famous live right at the beach and shop at 5th Avenue. Taking a stroll on the famous fishing pier is a must do. The fishing activity’s on the pier attracts a lot of spectacular oracles of the sea, like dolphins, sharks, stingrays and manatees. Because it takes only a view from the pier to spot these wonderful creatures, it gives you the feeling you are in Sea World and you can get this all for free!

Sanibel Island and Captiva

While visiting the Island of Sanibel and the sister island Captiva, you’ll notice how incredible rough nature can be in Florida. Alligators own the islands, but almost never bother other living creatures. Plenty of food for them in the swampy ponds. Sea nature at its best, rent a bike and explore the islands or stop by at Periwinkle Place or Tahitian Gardens for tropical gifts. Visit the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge is located on the subtropical barrier island of Sanibel in the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the United States. It is world famous for its spectacular migratory bird populations.

Take pictures of native plants, including mangroves and other local species, alligators, a variety of magnificent swimming and wading birds as well as other local wildlife.

Miami Beach is only a 1,5 hour drive. Stroll along a self-guided tour of the pastel architectural styling of the Art Deco district. If you come to Miami South Beach is the place to see and be seen.

World famous Walt Disney World and Sea World are located in the Orlando area, a 3,5 hour drive. After meeting Mickey and swimming with the dolphins, we recommend spending the night in a hotel before returning to Bonita Shores again.

The Keys

The Florida Keys are a cluster of about 1700 islands. The islands of the Florida Keys run south west from the city of Miami, FL. The Florida Keys span some 110 miles and are connected by bridges and causeways. The first island you will encounter is the famous tropical Key Largo. Marathon is located in the heart of the Keys. You’ll find here the dolphin research center. Enjoy dolphin swims or other fun chances to touch a dolphin.The last island is Key West, also known as the Last Resort, the Southernmost Point in the continental US. Key West is whatever you want it to be. You can hide out in a tucked away guesthouse, walk the beach and watch a beautiful sunset, or dance all night and peruse Duval Street in downtown Key West.

Although we think the trip to the Keys by car is an amazing one (see the Everglades, meet all the islands, taste the Caribbean atmosphere), we can imaging you will go for a day trip if you could. Take the Key West Express high speed ferryboat. Departures from Fort Myers Beach and Marco Island..

About the Area – Golf in SW Florida

For 12 months of the year, the golfing enthusiast will find the golf courses in South Florida open and challenging. And from May through October the golf courses are never crowded, you can pick your tea time and be assured of a leisure round. Also, many of the private courses are open to the public during these months. The favorable climate allows year-round golfing at its finest.

Throughout Florida there are more than 1,000 courses available catering to every level of player. Currently, there are over 40 golf courses in the Marco Island - Naples area, with more being constructed each year. The Southeast coast offers more than 100 courses.You don’t need any golf license by the way!

The Southwest corner of Florida has an abundance of golf facilities to suit any golfer. You can find private, semi-private and public courses, there is an abundance of golf courses available to travelers and residents alike.

All golf materials are for rent, but you are welcome to bring your own (beware of customs regulations). Check out the Outlet Golf Shops on every corner as well!

The State of Florida, also called the Sunshine State, has a surface of 151.670 km2, whereof 11.000 km2 water. The state borders on one side is the Atlantic Ocean, on the other side the Gulf of Mexico. From north to south it is a distance of 690 km. Florida is split up in 67 counties. The average inhabitants per km2 are approximately 76.

The state has not less than 165 rivers and approximately 30.000 lakes, whereas lake Okeechobee is the largest. Florida counts 13 million inhabitants but the yearly visitors are 3 times more. During winter the hotel rates are expensive because of the Holliday Season in America. We recommend reservations. The prices in the summer are cheaper than in Europe.

Florida’s nickname is the Sunshine State. The subtropical climate brings a lot of sunshine year round (about 300 days). Only during summertime rain falls almost every afternoon, just for an hour or so.

Because the daily temperature lies around 33 degrees Celsius the afternoon rain is a welcome refreshment for most Floridians. The summer days are hot and humid, but, “hey you are on holiday”!

During wintertime temperature lay between 15 and 24 degrees Celsius, so yes… you can book a beach holiday in January as well.

The water of the Gulf of Mexico is very warm between July and September. The rest of the year the water feels like North Sea water during summertime. The fauna and flora is subtropical as well. Year round you smell flowers and citrus everywhere. Take a look at our pictures and dream away……………

Francien is the one who discovered Florida 15 years ago. Every year after returning from another wonderful Floridian vacation, she told family and friends about the good things South West Florida had to offer. This piece of Paradise has stolen her heart! The Sand DollarThe Sand Dollar is like the starfish. It has very small feet that help it move and hide in the sand. The Sand Dollar also has a mouth in the middle of its body. It is flatter than the starfish and is somewhat round in shape. It eats particles of little pieces of ocean plants and ocean animals. The Sand Dollar has five pores arranged in a petal pattern

The Legend of the Sand DollarThe legend of the Sand Dollar is that Christ left the sand dollar as a symbol to help evangelists teach the faith. The five holes represent the five wounds Christ received while on the cross: four nail holes and the hole made by the Roman's spear. In the center of one side of the Sand Dollar, there is the Easter lily and in the middle of the lily is the star of Bethlehem. The Christmas poinsettia is on the other side which is a reminder of Christ's birth. If you break the Sand Dollar open, there are five white pieces of shell which look like doves. These are said to bring good will and peace.
