Flintshire CyclingRoute 5 of the National Cycle Network opened in June 2000. It stretches 52km from theCheshire Border throughout Flintshire, along varying terrains from gentle, flat routesalong converted railways to quiet country lanes up in the hills, with exhilarating viewsacross the Dee Estuary, and onto the coastline of Denbighshire.

The attraction of NCN 5 is that it caters for experienced cyclists, who can take on thelong challenging route, and it also caters for novice riders who may prefer to cycle alonga section of the 13 km traffic-free route.

NCN 5 is now complimented by the partly constructed Dee Coastal Path, a 3 metre wideoff road leisure/utility walking/cycling route which will eventually stretch 55 km between

Prestatyn and Chester and onto the Wirral. 16km is now complete.
