Maximum Working Pressure:Full vacuum to 4500 PSIG (depending on size and braid configuration)Temperature:Cryogenic to 1500 ºF.Chemical Resistance:Good corrosion resistance to most commercial chemicals, acids, alco-hols, coolants, elastomers, petroleum compounds, solvents, vinyls, syn-thetic lubricants & hydraulic fluids.
Application Advantages: Corrects problems of misalignment. Compensates for thermal expansionor contraction of piping systems. Also compensates for intermittent orconstant movements, absorbs vibration and noise from pumps, com-pressors, engines etc.
Light Weight:High physical strength combined with light weight, easier to move, han-dle and install than rubber hose with a comparable burst pressure rating.

As the service temperature increases, the maximum pressure a hose assembly can withstand decreases. The material from which thehose is made and the method of fitting attachment (mechanical, soldered, welded, silver brazed) determines the maximum pressure atwhich an assembly can be used. By using the factors given in the chart below, the approximate safe working pressure at elevatedtemperatures can be calculated for assemblies with welded or mechanically attached fittings.

OPEN PITCH
Open Pitch has fewer corrugations per foot thanStandard Pitch. This hose will not be as flexibleand will have a much lower flexing cycle life. OpenPitch hose is intended to be used in less severeapplications where flexibility and cycle life are notan important requirement or an effective methodfor dampening vibration.
STANDARD PITCH
Corrugated metal hose is normally manufacturedin Standard Pitch (Close Pitch). Each manufac-turer specifies a standard number of corrugationsper foot based on their desire to provide for acceptable flexibility while considering economicrequirements.
EXTREME FLEX PITCH
Extreme Flex Pitch allows greater flexibility without thinning the wall of the hose by increasingthe number of corrugations per foot. Extreme FlexPitch will normally have a higher flexing cycle lifeand can be used in more severe applicationswhere ease of flexibility is important.
ANNULAR CORRUGATED HOSE PITCHAll AEROCOM annular hose is available in Open, Standard and Extreme Flex pitch
TemperatureThe physical properties of any material vary with temperature. Working pressure, the type of media being conveyed and the natureof the application are what affect the limits for operating temperature.Flexible metal hose can be used for a wide range of temperaturesgiven that the material is selected carefully. The temperature limitdepends upon the hose type, metal alloy, end fittings and themethod of fitting attachment choices.
PressureThe nominal pressure ratings of flexible metal hose vary accordingto type, material and size. Pressure is affected by many other factorssuch as temperature, pulsating conditions and bending stresses, under actual working conditions.
MediaThe type of media being conveyed through the hose is important toconsider during the selection process. Metal hose can be corrodedby the material flowing through it and the outside environment. Ametal hose can be selected that is resistant to the proposed mediafor almost all applications. Since metal hose has a thin wall, it willnot have the same total life as a heavier walled tube or pipe.
SizeThe size of flexible metal hose is specified by the nominal diameter. When choosing a metal hose for a particular application, the existingpiping will normally dictate the size needed. Flow rate, velocity andpressure drop considerations may also influence the selection of thehose size.
End Fittings There is an extensive range of end fittings available for flexible metalhose. These end fittings include male and female pipe threads, unions, flanges, flared tube fittings or other specially designed con-nectors. End fittings are attached by welding, silver brazing, solder-ing or other by other mechanical means, depending on the type ofhose.
MotionFlexible metal hose is used in four types of applications:• To correct misalignment• To provide flexibility in manual handling operations• To compensate for regular or constant movement• To absorb vibration
In all types, careful hose selection, design of the assembly and in-stallation are important for optimal service life. Mechanical designand the flexibility of its material determine the flexibility of a hose.
To make the best choice for a specific application, consider all therelevant operating factors against the properties of the various typesof flexible metal hoses.
