Travelling in PhuketTravelling in Phuket can be a big challenge sometimes, especially if you are not well prepared, since public transportation here is quite limited. Unlike Bangkok that has many options, including City bus, BTS (Sky train) and MRT (Subway) or taxi meter is also easy to find and not too expensive.

In Phuket.......Airport bus: There are 2 companies running the different routes 1. Airport – Phuket Town – Airport (Airport Bus Phuket)2. Airport – Patong – Airport (Phuket Airport Bus Express)Find them easily by coming out from the arrival hall, walk to the left, you will see both buses are waiting for you at their spots.

Local bus: Or locals call “Song-Taew”, runs with no fixed schedule from Phuket town to many beaches, probably good for tourists who want to wander around Phuket island on the bus. You may consider one day on this trip to see locals finish their shopping from the fresh market and carry all the fresh groceries back home since its terminal is right in front of Downtown market, the old and well known fresh market, serving locals for many generations. Once again, it is best to start from Phuket Town and check the destinations where that bus goes on their front sign. Price starts from 15 baht.

Motorbike taxi:You can notice which riders are the taxi from their coloured jackets, which usually state where they’re based. Price to be negotiated before the trip starts, even though it can be too adventurous for some people but for the short distance it can be one of your most memorable and fun experiences in Thailand. Always negotiate them down from their asking price!

Taxi: There are taxi and Tuk Tuk taxi stands and Minivan service counters everywhere all over the island.

Have you own vehicle Motorbike rental: It is easy to rent motorbikes from the counters all over the island. Rate could start from 250 baht per day, but it varies from the conditions of the motorbike, weekly and monthly rate also available from some providers.

Car rental: There’re some car rental counters at the airport and some counters all over the island. Both motorbike and car rental counters will ask for your passport as the deposit on your rental, so make sure that you make a copy of your passport and keep it with you, in case you need to identify yourself somewhere else. Please always drive carefully and put the helmet on when you’re on the motorbike, not only to avoid the fine but also for your own safety as Phuket has high road accident statistic. Bad driving/riding - you will see it and if it frustrates you, please try to let it go and move on, you never know what worse those people can be doing more than bad driving/riding. Don’t let them ruin your holiday.

Things to know before planning your trip!Rassada Pier – The pier in Phuket Town that boat/ferry depart from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta as on schedule we have for you in this issue of Flexi Stay Phuket. You can go the pier and buy ticket there yourself.Here is the Thai word in case you stay in Phuket Town and taking motorbike taxi there, most of them speak less English than taxi or tuk tuk taxi and it’s easier to get around town with motorbike taxi. Again, please try to negotiate the price a little bit down from what they ask for.

ไปทาเรอรษฎา it means “Please take me to Rassada Pier” (direct translation is “Go Rassada pier”)To go there by yourself might be a little complicated, but most of the companies that you book the ticket with will offer the transfer. Please check with them before make the payment.

Phuket Bus Terminal – There are old one and new one. The old one is in Phuket Town, opposite Royal Phuket City hotel on Phang Nga Road. All the busses we have schedule for you in Flexi Stay Phuket, depart from new one, it’s located on Thepkrasattri Road. Check Phuket town map.

If Bangkok is your final destination for that trip, going to either Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueng wouldn’t be so much different. But if you have other flight(s) to catch please check well where you will be arriving, since most of low cost airlines will land at Don Mueng Airport, if you have to travel to the different airport to catch another flight, you better plan well on the travelling time. Before picking your accommodation..There are two areas that would be mentioned here, please see along with the map we have in front of Flexi Stay Phuket.

If you fancy the night life, shopping, and live Thai boxing, Patong beach is the place you will get it all. However, if you don’t like the crowd you might not enjoy staying there too much. Patong is the busiest area but at the same time it’s also convenient to find activities to do on your holiday there.

Phuket town – staying in Phuket town is a good idea to see Phuket more than just the beautiful beaches. Phuket old town area has the long history and a lot of local dishes to try. Some of them you will never find anywhere in Phuket but in town. There are plenty of accommodations for backpackers and some 3-5 stars hotels that you can consider as well.

Rassada pier that you can take the boat to Koh Phi Phi and some other islands is also in Phuket town.
