Range of Movenment Type ERV-R

Data measured at room temperature with new expansion joints and non swelling media. For swelling media use a safety factor. Acompressed installation improves the in the table listed vacuum resistance. The maxium permittable elongation (L max.) reduces thevaccum resistance by 50%. For this case we recommend to use vacuum support spirals or vaccum support rings (see catalogue page 1-36).

Dependencies of overpressure, range of movement and temperature please see table on catalogue page 1-6.

ERV Tie Rods and Angular Limiters

Tied Flanges – Type ZSThe opposite table shows that the pressure thrust forcesin small ERV dimensions up to DN 50 are this low thatlimiters normally are not necessary. Limiters arerecommended when it is not possi ble to secure the pipesystem with sufficient fixed points or when a part relief ofthe fixed points is desired.

The required limiters are measured to absorb also thereaction forces resulting from the test pressure.

For the mainly required axial limitation the shown typeswith integrated tie bars have proved well. The tie barswith high stability (steel 8.8) can be adjusted to the actualinstallation meas urements. The tie bars lie elastically innoise reducing rubber bushes of weatherproof rubber -from DN 350 the tie rods lie in prinicipal in conical seatsand spherical washers.

Type for ERV with flanges according to VG 95959-1 (German Naval Standard)

Flame protection cover for ERV rubberexpansion joints, made of several layers ofglass fiber fabric with a surface cover ofsilver-coloured high temperature resistantsilicone-aluminium-glas fabric. Screws, nutsand washers of brass. It reliably protects theexpansion joint against radiation heat and directflames up to 800° C for 30 minutes. The flameprotection cover is resistant against oil andchemical influences as well as against ageingand weathering.

Because of its split design the flame protectioncover can be mounted subsequently or re-opened. The dimensions have been chosen insuch a way that also the counter flanges arecompletely covered. The allowed range ofmovement is not restricted.

Hints for the Pipework Designer

ERV rubber expansion joints are delivered ready for installation. The swiveling flanges can be fitted inany desired position and have stabilising rims to ease the assembly. Flanges with stabilising rim (collar)also helps to maintain a safety gap between the ends of the screws and the bellow throughout thewhole range of movement and avoids injuries.

Correct Mating Flanges Seals are not required if the sealing surface of the mating flanges of the pipework are of the same size.Seals (as shown in fig. E) should be only used in order to prevent damage to the rubber sealing surface, for example if the mating flanges either have a larger internal diameter, sharp edges or irregularities e.g.welding beads.

Crushing StrengthThe maximum operating pressure and test pressure not only depends on the burst pressure of the rubber bellow but can also be affected by operating temperature and design pressure /nominal pressure of the used flanges. For full details please see page 1-6. The burst pressure (at roomtemperature) is at least 3 - 4 times the nominal pressure (PN). Pressure test certificates can be issuedupon request.

Vacuum ResistanceThe maximum vacuum depends on size, operating temperature, length of installation and theinstallation of vacuum support rings (page 1-36). Please see type specific data sheets for details. Thevacuum resistance can be slightly increased even without vacuum support rings if the installation length isshortened (e. g. by 20 mm). The vacuum resistance decreases if a longer installation length is chosen, orthe expansion joint is lengthened in operation.

Weather and Heat ResistanceThe outer rubber (cover) is resistant against weathering and protects the reinforcements against ageing, abrasion and corrosion. For the permitted temperature range please see type specific data sheets. Forpermanently warm operating conditions including external radiation heat please see page 1-6.

ERV types with an outer rubber of CR or Hypalon (CSM) are (within limits) oil proof and flame resistant. An additional flame protection can be achieved by using a flame protection cover conforming to the'Germanischer Lloyd' standard, see pages (1-37 and 1-17).

Pressure LossThe internal design of the ERV bellows allows a high flow with little turbulence. Therefore the pressureloss is usually neglectible, even when dealing with high flow rates.

Noise LevelsDue to their design, ERV expansion joints reduce noise in pipelines. An even better reduction isachieved if the total installation length is shortened in a range of 5 - 10 mm.

InstallationFor the allowable range of movement please see type specific data sheets. If possible, the length of theinstallation gap is designed to be equal to the recommended installation length, or slightly shorter. Thelow inherent resistance of ERV allows a compression by hand and makes fitting into smaller gaps easy.

For larger installation gaps or lateral offset, not more than 50% of the maximum area of movementshould be used up in order to leave a reserve for operation. If the bellows is lengthened during operation,a jolted (compressed) installation is recommended. The position of installation must be accessible for visualexamination. When installing the unit, installation hints (page 1-39) must be observed.

RestraintThe inherent resistance of ERV bellows is negligible in respect of calculations for anchorage points. Underpressure the bellow acts like a plunger, thus requiring to fix anchorage points for larger size expensionjoints. Since the ERV construction absorbs part of these forces, the anchorage points may becorrespondingly weaker. If such anchorage points cannot be provided, or if the stability of the other fittingsis insufficient, the pressure thrust forces have to be absorbed by tie rods. For available types see cataloguepage 1-34.

IdentificationAll ERV bellows have a vulcanised coloured type marking and an embossed text stating manufacturersmark, nominal width DN, nominal pressure PN as well as the manufacturing date.

Installation and Operation Hints for ERV Expansion Joints

Section

1

ELAFLEX expansion joints are provided ready forinstallation. The standard flanges can be turned intoany desired position. Additional sealings usually arenot necessary. For installation please observe thefollowing :

1) Prior to the installation of the expansion jointensure that the mating flanges have satisfactorysealing surfaces.Pro truding pipe ends, grooves and tongues arenot permitted as the sealing surface of thebellows might be destroyed. (see hints for thepipework designer, page 1-38)

Attention: When using slip-on flanges theoutside diameter must be larger than thesealing surface of the expansion joint.

2) Pay attention to the correct installation length: Thepulling of expansion joints into installation gapswhich are too large will lengthen the rubber bellowand might lead to the collar being drawn out of theflange groove (see picture). During the subsequenttightening of the screws the collar of the bellowswould be crushed asymmetrically.

Please note : A considerable lengthening duringinstallation decreases the allowable range ofmovement during operation. To shorten installationgaps, distance flanges are available.

3) If possible install the expansion joints in such waythat the date of production is visible.

4) Screws should be inserted from the expansionjoint side. If this is not feasible, it must beassured that the bellows may not touch thescrews in all operating conditions.

5) We recommend to use bolts of property class8.8. The bolts have to be fastened crosswise in 3uniform steps.

When using a torque wrench:

1st step: Tighten bolts equally by hand (pay attention toparallel sealing surfaces!).

2nd step: Fasten crosswise with torque 50 Nm.

3rd step: Fasten crosswise

approx. torqueup to DN 80 max. 80 Nm up to DN 300 max. 100 Nm up to DN 500 max. 130 Nm

DN 700 250 NmDN 800 300 NmDN 900 310 NmDN 1000 340 Nm

Do not use any sharp-edged tools which mightdamage the rubber bellow in case the tool slips.

6) If no torque wrench can be used duringinstallation, the screws may only be tightened toan extent that between the metal flanges adistance "y" of at least 1 mm remains (seepicture).

7) The test pressure of a bellow or flange is 1.5 xPN. This value depends on which component isweaker.

8) The rubber bellow of the expansion joint must notbe painted ! Solvents can damage the rubber cover, furthermore the colour coat impedes a propervisual inspection.

9) When welding and cutting, the rubber bellow mustbe protected against heat by all means. Forelectric welding it must be insured that the electriccurrent does not pass through the bellows.

10) Permanent radiation heat above 90° C must beavoided. If necessary flame protection coversshould be used (see page 1-37).

11) Rubber expansion joints are subject to wear andmust be included to routine inspection of the pipesystem (visual inspection of the expansion jointregarding damages as well as inspection forhardening by pushing in with a thumb).

The FLEXEL CG-21 is an arch-type single bellow expansion joint.

Its construction allows it to maintain a very short distance betweenflanges and it only needs a small free space for installation.

The special characteristic of these expansion joints is that they arefabricated with the flanges already integrated in the rubber body, asan enlargement of the same, and they may be made with one ormore corrugations.

The body is fabricated with rubber and fabric, and reinforced withmetal rings or steel cord. The rubber flange has enough thicknessto eliminate the need for gas-tight gaskets. The rubber flanges andthe steel back –flanges are drilled according to the customer’sspecification.

These expansion joints are fully engineered to order and thereforethe distance between flanges may vary depending on the existingspace conditions.

Larger diameters and side branches can be supplied.

SpecificationFlexEJ Small bore Copper ended axialexpansion joints are made from stainless steelconvoluted bellows for use in heating circuits.Designed to EJMA*.

MaterialsBellows: 316 Stainless SteelCopper Ends: BS EN1057 Table ‘X’

Operating ConditionsMax Working Pressure: 6 BarTesting Pressure: 9 BarMax Working Temp: 90oC

Application

FlexEJ Small bore Copper ended expansionjoints are used in small bore pipe work systemsto absorb thermal movement in the axialdirection.

Performance

Movements and pressure ratings apply fortemperatures up to 90oC. Copper pipe endedunits should not be used above thistemperature.

Installation

Take care when installing the bellow to ensureno torsion is applied. The unit is supplied atextended length so no cold pull is required. The bellow can be installed in any flowdirection. These expansion joints require thepipe work to be suitably anchored and guidedfor correct installation. Take care whensoldering or brazing to ensure no soldering fluxcomes into contact with the bellowconvolutions. Doing so could cause acorrosive chemical reaction and prematurefailure. DO NOT USE BELLOWS TOCORRECT FOR MISALIGNMENT OF PIPING.Refer FlexEJ bellows installation manual forfurther details.

Expansion Joints - Installation InstructionsSection

4

Pre-Installation Checks and PrecautionsFlexEJ Expansion Joints are fully inspected at the factory and are packaged to arrive at the job site in goodcondition. Please, immediately upon receipt at the job site, verify that there is no freight damage; i.e., dents, broken hardware, loose shipping bars, etc.

Because the bellows expansion joint is required to absorb thermal and/or mechanical movements, the bellowselement must be constructed of a relatively thin material. This requires special installation precautions. Thefollowing steps should be taken prior to installation of the expansion joint into the pipeline or duct.

1. The opening into which the expansion joint will be installed should be examined to verify that the opening forwhich the expansion joint was designed does not exceed the installation tolerances designated by thedesigner and/or purchaser. If the opening exceeds the tolerance, notify FlexEJ at once for a disposition.

2. The attachment edges of the pipe or duct should be smooth, clean, and parallel to each other.

3. The area around the expansion joint should be cleared of any sharp objects or protrusions. If not removable, they should be noted so they can be avoided.

4. Expansion joints provided with lifting lugs should be lifted only by the designated lifting lugs. SHIPPINGBARS (PAINTED YELLOW) ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE LIFTING DEVICES. NEVER USE A CHAIN OR ANYOTHER HANDLING DEVICES DIRECTLY ON THE BELLOWS ELEMENT OR BELLOWS COVER. Forexpansion joints not provided with lifting lugs (i.e. less than 200 Kgs) the best lifting method should beevaluated at the time of installation.

5. The shipping bars are installed on an expansion joint to maintain shipping length and give the expansionjoint stability during transit and installation. DO NOT REMOVE THE SHIPPING BARS UNTIL THEINSTALLATION IS COMPLETE.

InstallationThe unrestrained Axial Expansion Joint must only be used in straight line pipe runs that have beenADEQUATELY ANCHORED AND GUIDED. The Axial Expansion Joint may be positioned anywhere in a straightpipe run. However, the number of anchors, primary and intermediate guides required varies, so it is importantto carefully assess the options available on site. When installing an expansion joint the following precautionsmust be taken:

1. Remove any protective covering from the ends of expansion joint. Plywood covers may have been used toprotect flanges or weld ends. Check inside expansion joint for desiccant bags or any other material.

2. When a flow liner is installed in the expansion joint, orientate the expansion joint with FLOW ARROWPOINTING IN DIRECTION OF FLOW.

3. When using lifting lugs, lift the joint to desired location and position into pipeline or ducting.

4. Weld/Soldered End Expansion Joints.

4.1PRIOR TO WELDING/SOLDERING, COVER THE BELLOWS ELEMENT WITH A CHLORIDE FREE FIRERETARDANT CLOTH. This is to prevent arc strikes, weld splatter, etc. from damaging the bellows element.

4.2 Using the proper electrode/flux, weld the expansion joint to adjacent piping. DO NOT USE BELLOWS TOCORRECT FOR MISALIGNMENT OF PIPING UNLESS THIS HAS BEEN CONSIDERED IN THE DESIGN OFTHE EXPANSION JOINT.

5. Flanged End Expansion Joints.

5.1 Orientate expansion joint flanges so that the bolt holes are aligned with the mating flanges. DO NOT FORCE THE EXPANSION JOINT TO MATCH THE BOLT HOLES OF THE MATING FLANGE. This causes torsion on the bellows and will severely reduce the bellows capability during operation and may cause premature failure of the expansion joint. It is good practice to leave one pipe flange looseuntil the expansion joint is installed or to purchase an expansion joint with a flange that will rotate.

5.2 Install gaskets and bolt to the required torque recommended by the flange manufacturer.

6. Union End Expansion Joints - Take great care when fitting screwed end expansion joints not to apply anytorsion to the bellows. Expansion joints are damaged very easily when torque. Always use a full Union atboth ends.

Expansion Joints - Installation Instructions

Pipe Anchors & Guides

Straight pipe runs when compensated by unrestrained axial expansion joints tend to buckle under the influence of both, the internal pressure acting on the bellows and/or the flexibility of the bellows itself. They can also buckle under theinfluence of the pressure thrust developed by the bellows, which loads the pipe axially and causes it to act like a straightbeam subjected to compressing axial forces. Besides proper supporting of the pipeline for weight and external forces, itis of vital importance that the correct alignment of the pipe is maintained to ensure the proper functioning of theexpansion joints. Using a proper guiding system, which shall follow the rules given below, can control the risk ofbuckling:

Rule A: The piping system has to be sectionalised by means of fixed points, anchors and guides. Only one expansionjoint must be fitted per section of straight line.Rule B: The pipe anchors and other restraining devices shall be designed for the full pressure thrust acting on theeffective area of the bellows, plus the bellows spring reaction load. The friction loads generated by the type ofguide/support should also be considered for each section of pipe between anchors.

Axial expansion joints not restraining the pressure thrustL1< 4 D, L2<14 DLf minimum possibleLg, the maximum distance between two guides at any conditions shall be limited to:

Where:E, is the modulus of elasticity of the pipe materialJ, is the moment of inertia of the pipe cross section

With the mean diameter, D3mp, of the pipe and, e, its wall thickness

S, is the safety factor (recommended: S = 3)Fi, is the buckling force consisting of the following components, which may act on the pipe simultaneously:

Fi = Fp + FB + FF,

Where:Fp = p.a is the pressure thrust. The bellows effective area a is given in the FlexEJ data sheets.

FB = ± X.KB is the axial displacement force generated by the bellowsThe axial displacement, X, of the expansion joint is measured from the neutral axis position. It is positive forcompression and negative for extension. The spring rating, KB, is given in the FlexEJ data sheets.

FF = ± ∑µ.FN defines the friction forces in the pipe guide.

Expansion Joints - Installation InstructionsSection

FLEXEJ LIMITED WARRANTY IS VOID UNLESS THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOLLOWED

All the singular forces bring by every guide between on a section of straight run have to be taken inconsideration to calculate the friction axial force. These friction forces will occur when the system ismoving, mainly when the temperature changes or for any other matter. The value of, µ, which is the frictioncoefficient in the guides and supports is given by the support manufacturer and the vertical load, FN,which are mainly weight loads are given by the pipe stress analysis.

Rule C: When on the same straight pipe run, an axial expansion joint is located adjacent to a pipe reducer. The loads on the small diameter anchors will have to take into account the full pressure thrust of theexpansion joint. Consideration should be made for eccentric pipe reducers and the effect of an offset load(l).

Single axial expansion joint located on the large diameter side of a reducer

Rule D: The pipe shall be guided in such a way that no lateral or angular movements allowed for in the pipe stress analysis or in the expansion joint design, can occur. For small diameters, the guideshave to be spaced in such a way so that snake behaviour of the line can be avoided. To allow free straightmovements of the pipe, the supporting devices of the system shall be designed to reduce the friction andthe risk of binding in the guides.

Single axial expansion joint on a pipe run containing an offset

This application shall be avoided because the pressure thrust developed by the bellows and the frictionforces due to the thermal expansion will introduce a moment in the piping, which may result in anoverstressing of the piping and of the guides.

Pipe Guide Spacing Table

NOTES:

FlexEJ recommends that for ABS, ABSC, ANW, ANF, ANL, UNW, UNF type Bellows Expansion Joints thefirst guide be located within four (4) pipe diameters from the expansion joint and the second guide belocated within a distance of fourteen (14) pipe diameters from the first guide. The remaining guides are tobe in accordance with the table below.

The table on the next page shows the recommended MAXIMUM Spacing of Intermediate Pipe Guides forApplications Involving Axial Movement Only. (Values Based on Standard Weight of Carbon Steel Pipe.)

Expansion Joints - Installation Instructions

FLEXEJ LIMITED WARRANTY IS VOID UNLESS THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOLLOWED

After Installation But Prior To The Hydro TestPre-Test Checks1. Inspect entire system to insure that anchors, guides and pipe supports are installed in strict accordance with

piping system drawings. A pipe guide spacing chart is provided on the previous page to aid in this check.

2. ANCHORS MUST BE DESIGNED FOR THE TEST PRESSURE THRUST LOADS. Expansion joints exert aforce equal to the test pressure times the effective Area of the bellows during hydro test. Pressure thrust atdesign pressure may be found on the individual drawings. Refer to EJMA Safety Recommendations.

3. If the system media is gaseous, check to determine if the piping and/or the expansion joint may requireadditional temporary supports due to the weight of water during testing.

4. REMOVE SHIPPING BARS (PAINTED YELLOW) PRIOR TO HYDROTESTING. Shipping bars are notdesigned for hydrostatic pressure thrust loads.

5. Hydrostatically test pipeline and expansion joint. ONLY CHLORIDE FREE WATER SHOULD BE USED FORHYDROTEST (published reports indicate chloride attack as low as 3 PPM). Water should not be left standingin the bellows.

General Precautions1. Cleaning agents, soaps and solvents may contain chlorides, caustics, or sulfides and can cause stress

corrosion which appears only after a bellows is put into service.

2. Wire brushes, steel wool and other abrasives should not be used on the bellows element.

3. Hydrostatic test pressure should not exceed 1.5 times the rated working pressure unless the expansion jointwas specifically designed for this test pressure.

4. Some types of insulation leach chlorides when wet. Only chloride free insulation materials should be used forinsulating an expansion joint.

For all other pipe sizes refer to the Standards of The Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association.

Influence of the service conditions on the metal hose designIn view of the wide variety of potential applications the workingpressures and bending radius stated in the technical tables canonly be used as a guideline. They are valid for predominantlystatic stress and room temperature (20 °C). The bursting pressureof the hoses is a factor of 4X greater than the working pressurestated in the tables. The maximum allowable testing pressure is1.5X the working pressure. The actual service conditions (i.e.pulsating and discontinuous demand, type and frequency ofmotion, higher working temperature etc) exert additionaldemands on the hose material. These influences must be takeninto account when determining the safe working and working lifeof the hose assemblies using the tables and formulae given here.

Single motionMinimum bending radius for single motion tested according toISO 10380 7.4.2 - picture 2.

Repeated motionFor repeated motion without major dynamic demand.

Dynamic motionFor dynamic motion the radius Rb is to be re-calculatedaccording to the table with the help of the corrective factors ftand fdyn.

The allowed working pressure is calculated as follows:

Ptoel. = Pmax. .ft .fdyn

Ptoel. = Allowed (bar) working pressure

Pmax = Max. working (bar)pressure acc. to table

ft = Reduction factor for (without dimensions)increased temperature

fdyn. = Reduction factor for (without dimensions)dynamic demand

The allowed bending radius is calculated as follows:

Rdyn. = Bending radius for (mm)dynamic demand

Rb = Bending radius for (mm)repeated motion acc. to table

ft = Reduction factor for (without dimensions)increased temperature

fdyn. = Reduction factor for (without dimensions)dynamic demand

Rdyn. = Rb (1,09 + ft .fdyn. +1 + 1 )____ __ ____

Metallic Flexible Corrugated Hose Assemblies – Installation & Safety Guides

FlexEJ metallic flexible corrugated hose assemblies are designed to meet pre-defined parameters of maximumoperating conditions. It is therefore important to ensure the flexible hose assembly meets the intended serviceconditions.

Prior to placing a metallic flexible hose assembly in to service, as a minimum, consideration should be given toensuring the flexible hose assembly will meet all aspects of the application, in respect of pressure, temperature, materials compatible with intended service, bend radius requirement, flow velocity, end fitting specification and endfitting attachment method.

The known integrity of the flexible hose assembly is important to the safety of any application. If in doubt ask.

Pressure: Flexible metallic hose assemblies must not be used above their maximum design pressure.

Shock pressure: Pulsating, surge or shock pressure will affect the life of a flexible hose assembly. Such pressureconditions must not exceed 50% of the flexible hose assembly maximum rated design pressure.

Temperature: Metallic flexible corrugated hose assemblies generally provide a good design temperature range.FlexEJ stated maximum design pressures with weld (TIG) attached end fittings are based on ambient temperaturecondition. When using flexible metallic hose assemblies at temperatures above ambient condition it is important totake into consideration pressure/temperature de-rating factors – See overleaf.

Bend radius: Care should be taken to ensure the flexible hose assembly is not installed and working with a bendradius below its published minimum design bend radius. Published minimum bend radius figures cover both static andflexing installations. Failure to consider this can result in fatigue and premature failure. Avoid installations resulting insharp bending immediately behind the flexible hose end fitting.

Flow Velocity: High velocities can lead to premature fatigue failure of a corrugated flexible hose assembly. A metallicstripwound interlocking liner should be considered and introduced if flow velocity exceeds:-

• Flexible corrugated hose assembly without external braid reinforcement if gas flow exceeds 30 metres/second or in the case of liquid 15 metres/second

• Flexible corrugated hose assembly with external braid reinforcement if gas flow exceeds 45 metres/second or in the case of liquid 22.5 metres/second

When a hose assembly is installed in a bend, these values should be reduced by 50% for a 90 degree bend, 25% fora 45 degree bend and appropriately in proportion to the angle of bend.

With higher velocity the next larger bore size should be used with a stripwound liner

End Fitting Specification: Selection of the correct specification of end fitting is important to a safe application. Theend fitting should be suitable for the extremes of pressure and temperature.

End Fitting attachment: Ensure the end fitting attachment method is compatible with the application, particular theoperating temperature. Most metallic flexible corrugated hose assemblies employ weld (TIG) attachment which willperform at the higher temperature range but other attachments are used, such as, brazing (silver solder) which havelimitation on temperature performance.

Do not Torque: Flexible metallic corrugated hose assemblies must never be subjected to torque or twisting duringinstallation and application.

• To avoid this condition during installation use as a minimum a swivel end fitting at one end of the flexible hose. The fixed end should always be connected first.

• For movement applications always install the flexible hose assembly so the movement occurs in one plane only, and in the plane of bending.

Failure to apply these rules will result in premature failure.

METALLIC FLEXIBLE CORRUGATED HOSE ASSEMBLIES – INSTALLATION & SAFETY GUIDES

Axial movement: Flexible corrugated hose assemblies are not designed for in-line axial movement and should not besubjected to compression or extension during application service.

Abrasion/rubbing: Do not allow flexible corrugated hose assemblies to rub on other objects or equipment. This can beparticularly damaging if the hose assembly is installed on a flexing application or being used for vibration movement.Premature and catastrophic failure can occur especially if the pressure restraining braid is damaged and weakened.

Corrosion: Correct selection of materials is important when considering flexible corrugated hose assemblies fortransferring chemicals or if used in a chemical environment.

Metallic flexible corrugated hose assemblies produced of commercial grade stainless steel materials, including 316L arenot suitable for transferring seawater or seawater contact. Premature failure caused by pitting corrosion or fatigue crackingof the corrugated flexible tube will occur.

Refer attached illustration guide for correct installation recommendations.

Maintenance, inspection and testing: Having placed in to service a well designed, manufactured and tested flexiblehose assembly, consideration should be given to on-going maintenance, inspection and testing. Depending upon theseverity of the application the life expectancy of a flexible hose assembly will be effected. Users should ensure all flexiblehose assemblies are subject to periodic inspection. As a minimum this should include a regular periodic visual inspectionto check for any wear or damage to the flexible hose that may affect its continuing service. Re-testing of hose assembliesis recommended at least annually. The test pressure should be 1.5 times the maximum working or design pressure. Whenused in arduous or safety critical applications a planned maintenance replacement programme is recommended.

PerformanceOptimum performance at or below the given nominal flow rate and between -10oC and 110oC; operatingat greater than the nominal flow rate will reduce the performance of the unit. Direction of flow is at user’s option.

InstallationIdeally should be installed at the hottest point of the system or on the return leg of chilling systems. Shouldbe installed upstream of rotating equipment, valves etc to offer best protection from dirt and entrained air.

Introduction

Dosing pots are required in order to feed liquid chemicals, such as corrosion inhibitors or antifreeze, into closed systems safely.

All Dosing Pots are supplied with:

1. Drainage Valve 6. Return Flow Valve

2. Flow Valve 7. Non Return Valve

3. Wall Brackets 8. Filling Valve

4. Steel Pipe Body 9. Tundish

5. Air Release Valve

Installing & Maintaining Your Dosing Pot

It is important that the dosing pot is correctly attached to the system to allow rapid chemical feed. Choose a location near a main pipe run or system header. Fasten the chemical dosing pot securely in place using the brackets attached to the back of the steel body.

Pipe the drain valve away to a safe disposal point. It is best to connect to the system across the flow andreturn pipe work. The flow connection should be made to the appropriately named “Flow Valve” at thebottom of the pot and the return connection made to the appropriately named “Return Valve”.

For all working conditions please refer to the data sheet provided. The Dosing Pot should not be operatedoutside of these limits.

After long term use the valves may wear. They should be inspected periodically and if necessary replaced. The Dosing Pot itself should also be checked periodically for corrosion and other wear. A 1mm corrosionallowance has been incorporated into the design. If corrosion is found to be greater than 1mm the potshould be removed and replaced.

A non return valve is fitted below the filling valve to prevent blow back occurring. The Dosing Pot couldreach temperatures of up to 120oc.

PPE appropriate for the working temperature and chemicals being used must be worn.Hazard Warnings should be fitted at the installation location and be visible to the operator in order to prevent the operator from causing harm to themselves or others.
