FOUNDATIONtips and tricks
• Cruelty-free: formulas that aren’t tested on animals
• Non-comedogenic: foundation formulas that are non-pore clogging
• Long-wearing: formulas that advertise all-day coverage to prevent creasing and fading
WHAT TO LOOK FORin your foundation
• Match the color to your jawline for the most natural-looking color.
• Determine your undertones. Most people have warm undertones, and you can have warm undertones even if you’re pale. Warm = golden/olive tint; cool = pink/rosy tint. You may also be neutral.
• Know what colors to look for based on your undertones. If you’re warm, go for tawny, honey, or chestnut shades. If you’re cool, look for a beige or cocoa-based shade. Neutrals can go either way.
• Decide how dark or light your foundations need to be. Most foundations come in both warm and cool tones in shades from very light to very dark. Most people get a winter shade and a summer shade to accommodate tanning!
CHOOSE A SHADEto match your skin
• Veins: If the veins on the inside of your wrist look more blue, then you’re probably cool. If they look green, you’re warm. In-betweeners are neutral.
• Silver vs. Gold: Does silver or gold jewelry look better against your skin? Cool-toned people look better in silver, while warmer gals rock gold better.
• Clothes: Cool-toned complexions come alive in blues, purples, and blue-based reds, while warm-toned complexions look better in golden yellows, yellow-greens, ivory, warm reds, and oranges.
WARM VS. COOLdetermining your undertones
• Begin by moisturizing your face and using a primer to fill pores.
• Use a brush, sponge, or fingertips for cream and liquid formulas; use a brush for powder.
• Create a base by using a small amount all over the face.
• Apply the product using downward strokes, going from forehead to chin. This helps prevent the product from caking into tiny hairs.
• Build coverage around problem areas using a stippling/patting motion with a stippling brush or your original tool.
• Blend downward into the neck for a natural look.
HOW TO APPLYflawless foundation
• Always have a matching concealer on-hand for extra coverage on dark circles, blemishes, et cetera.
• Wear a sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher every day. Foundation that provides SPF doesn’t provide quality sun protection.
• Dust your face with a finishing powder to set your look.
• Check your look in natural sunlight, if possible, to ensure you’ve done enough blending.
