Spanish Feria

As part of our ISA activities Senorita Gema Rodreguez Moreno was invited to school to create a true Spanish atmosphere –LA FERIA

‘FERIA’ translates as festival or what we know best as a ‘Mela’. Every year in Southern Spain, ’Ferias’ are held after Holy Week [Holy week comprises the holy days Maundy Thursday Good Friday Easter Saturday, Sunday and Easter Monday-usually a holiday throughout Western Europe]

The Feria held in Seville is one of the most magnificent in Southern Spain-Andalucia. The finest bulls make their debut, beautiful horses and carriages are paraded and most people dress up in traditional clothing.

The great art of ‘Flamenco’ comprises dance and song is greatly celebrated. Companies set up ‘casetas’- tents or ‘shamianas’ in which lots of refreshments and ‘tapas’ are available and where lots of amateur artists show their skill in Flamenco.

Senorita Gema not only taught a group of girls the ‘Sevillana’, which is one of the dances known as flamenco, but also gave a presentation on the olives and olive oil. Futhermore she gave some good cookery classes .After the performance of the Sevillana at school,a Skype session was held with a Spanish

partner school “El Centro Ingles” in El Puerto de Santa Maria. Our girls danced the Sevillana and girls from El Centro performed some Flamenco. Senorita Gema gave traditional fans and embroidered shawls to her dance troupe.

Each day Is a New brand Day

It’s always good to remember, When our hope for the future has waned, That no victory in life is easy, No goal is readily gained- That trees of the forest are Strengthened each time they Have weathered a storm… That the sharp cruel cut of the chisel. Gives the Marble it’s beauty and form. And its always good to remember, When shadows have darkened our way,

That each dawn is a bright beginning- Each day is a Brand New Day. Sargun Sandhu (Class - XI DG)

Globe Warming

Greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, water vapour and methane, help to trap heat and stop too much of it escaping into space. Without these gases, the Earth would not be warm enough for us to survive. But more and more greenhouse gases are being released into the atmosphere because of human activities and too much heat is being trapped. The Earth became 0.50C (0.90F warmer during the 20th century and a further rise of even a couple of degrees will damage its natural balance.
