  • We would like to thank our teacher, Ms Tan Beng Chiak for demonstrating these 2 experiments to us :)

    Flame Test and Chromatography

  • The numbers on the cheque were cut out to perform chromatography

  • The ink was dissolved in ethanol. After that, the ethanol was dripped onto a piece of chrmatography paper using a microtube. Dip the chromatography paper in distilled water so as to physically separate the different components of ink.Draw a line at where the distilled water travels to on the chromatography paper.

    Chromatography

  • The picture on the left shows how the ink is dissolved in ethanol and the other picture shows the physical separation of the different components on the ink.

  • This is a picture of Flame Test. Note that the colour of flame will be different with different metals. This orange red colour shows that it is burnt from calcium.

  • The left picture shows a greenish flame that is burnt from copper. The right photo shows a bright orange colour that is probably burnt from sodium.
