He was a Vice President and headed up Statoil’s UK offi ce from 2001 to 2003. Today his main responsibilities cover all areas of Statoil’s natural gas business including marketing, trading and sales of pipeline natural gas from European, US and Caspian gas assets. Roger Bootle, Chief Economist, CAPITAL ECONOMICS Session timing: Tuesday 08:30 One of the City of London’s best-known economists, Roger Bootle runs the consultancy, Capital Economics. He is also a Specialist Adviser to the House of Commons Treasury Committee and an Honorary Fellow of the
Institute of Actuaries. He was formerly Group Chief Economist of HSBC and, under the previous Conservative government, he was appointed one of the Chancellor’s panel of Independent Economic Advisers, the so-called “Wise Men”. In July it was announced that Roger and a team from Capital Economics had won the Wolfson Prize, the second biggest prize in Economics after the Nobel.
