This guide will show you how to disassemble the iPad 2 mobile tablet, assisting in making the repair of the device both simple and inexpensive. Following the steps we have provided should help you quickly, and safely, replace not only a broken display, but also any other internal components that may have become damaged.

• Before starting to disassemble the iPad 2, weneed to bring to your attention to two areas wherethe need for extreme caution is necessary toprevent irreversible damage.

• Using the heat gun or blow dryer, begin to heatthe outer edges of the tablet to soften theadhesive securing the front panel of the unit (1 to2 minutes should suffice).

Using the plastic opening tool, create separation between the trim bezel and the touch screen digitizer.

• Slide the opening tool around the displayassembly to release the adhesive around theentire tablet.

• On the left side of the tablet, approximately 2inches from the home button, is the touch screendigitizer ribbon cable. Also on the left side of thetablet, approximately 2 inches to the right of thehome button, is the Wi-Fi antenna flex cable.

• When you are separating the touch screen fromthe bezel with the plastic opening tool, below inStep Three, make sure to avoid using excessiveforce on these two parts of the tablet.

• The support of the heat gun or blow dryer mightbe needed in order to soften the adhesive whileworking all the way around the touch screen.

• Use the triangle opening tools while workingaround the perimeter of the iPad 2 to hold apartthe adhesive and keep separation.

• When the adhesive has been released all theway around the tablet, rotate the touch screenaway from the base. This will be similar toopening a book. Make sure you are mindful of theribbon cable in the bottom left corner.

Lift and rotate the LCD screen out of the base the same way as you did the touch screen. You can then rest the LCD screen on top of the touch screen/front panel.

• Next, locate and remove the four Phillips screws(#00) that secure the LCD to the base.

• The LCD screen ribbon cable is held in with a FPCstyle connector which has a locking tab. Make sureyou unlock this tab before trying to unplug theribbon cable.

• The touch screen ribbon cable is also held in tothe phone with FPC style connectors. Again, thesehave locking tabs that need to be unlocked beforetrying to unplug the ribbon cables.

Step 9 – Dock Port Assembly

• Use the flat side of the spudger to gently pry upand release the dock port’s single plug styleconnector.

• The tab on the opposite side of where the cable isinserted is the lock. Use the spudger to flip the tabup 90 degrees.

• Once the locking tab is flipped up, release theribbon cable from its connector and then removethe LCD screen from the iPad 2.

• The tabs on the opposite side of where the cablesare inserted are the locks. Use the spudger to flipthe tabs 90 degrees.

• Once the locking tabs are flipped up, release theribbon cables from their connectors.

• You can now remove the touch screen from theiPad 2.

• Locate and remove the two Phillips screws (#00)that secure the dock port connector into the tablet,this will allow you to remove the dock port from theiPad 2.

• The connection for the headphone jack assemblyis a locking style connector that needs to bereleased before the ribbon cable can be removed.

• Locate and remove the two Phillips screws (#00)that secure the headphone jack to the body of theiPad 2.

• Use the spudger to flip the lock and remove theribbon cable from the socket.

• Using tweezers or the spudger, maneuver theheadphone jack assembly up and out of the iPad 2.Then peel up the microphone that is the lastportion of the cable.

• Locate and remove the four Phillips screws (#00)that secure the Wi-Fi antenna flex cable to theiPad 2.

• To disconnect the cable for the front-facing camerafrom the tablet, use the spudger to pry it up and outof its socket and then remove the front-facingcamera from the iPad 2.

• The interconnection cable for the power & volumebutton assembly has a locking connection.Release the locking lever and then remove theconnection from the socket.

• The speaker assembly has a plug style connection.Use the flat end of the spudger to pry up andremove the speaker assembly

• Locate and remove the five Phillips screws (#00)that secure the motherboard to the body of theiPad 2.

• The final connection for the Wi-Fi antenna flexcable is on the bottom side of the motherboard.Use the tweezers or the spudger to remove thisplug and then remove the WiFi antenna from theiPad 2.

• The battery is secured to the body of the tabletwith a small amount of adhesive on both sides ofits three pieces.
