Tape the drill template to the door aligning the vertical dashed line of the template with that of the vertical door skin fold lip edge as shown and prepare to drill. The vertical distance from the horizontal midpoint of the lock body is 22” or 56cm to the bottom of the door edge (see picture). Mark the 4 perimeter holes to be drilled out at 23/64th or 9mm. Pay special attention to the 2 holes on the door fold edge (right of the dashed line) where the inner and outer skin panels join verifying that the intended drill center point for the supplied M8 bolt will be in the center of the skin fold. The 5th hole (drill outer skin only) is designed to accommodate the passage of the emergency cable into the tailgate area.

In order to complete the installation without having to remove the factory OEM lock, first back off the outer screws and then carefully release the 2 plastic catches holding their respective rod linkage sectionals in place (circled in photo).

Determine the desired location for the emergency release cable as shown in pictures. Continue with the steps 4, 5 and 6 per GENERAL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS.

SIDE DOOR Tape the drill template to the door aligning the vertical dashed line of the template with that of the vertical door skin fold lip edge as shown and prepare to drill. The vertical distance from the horizontal midpoint of the lock body is 3-15/16th or 11cm to the top of the slide rail cover (see picture).

To fix the outer-shell is preferable to detach the lock, without removing it completely. Take any measures necessary to modify where required in an effort to avoid crushing or binding the emergency release cable.

Determine the desired location for the emergency release cable as shown in pictures. Continue with the steps 4, 5 and 6 per GENERAL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS.

SIDE DOOR Remove the interior liner panels from the sliding door and the liner to the right side in addition to the plastic cover in order to get inside the fixing strike plate area.

Tape the drill template to the door aligning the vertical dashed line of the template with that of the vertical door skin fold lip edge as shown and prepare to drill. The vertical distance from the horizontal midpoint of the lock body is 16-11/32nd or 41.5cm to the bottom edge of the sliding door rail (see picture).

In correspondence of the center of the strike plate, practice (with a hole saw from 50) a hole from the inside of the load compartment to remove the double inner sheet and to be able to apply the inner plate of the strike plate. Use of a guide hole runs from the outside, in correspondence of the center of the strike plate. Be very careful not to reach and damage the outer sheet metal.

Tape the drill template to the door aligning the vertical dashed line of the template 5mm to the right of the vertical door skin fold lip edge as shown and prepare to drill. This 13/64th or 5mm offset shift allows for the optimal placement of the strike plate on this vehicle application. The vertical distance from the bottom of the lock body is 16-17/32nd or 42cm to the bottom of the door edge (see picture).

Cut a .78” or 20mm portion of the strike plate backing plate (see photo). This backing plate will be positioned inside the inner rib of the sheet metal.

The vertical distance from the horizontal midpoint of the lock body is 20-5/64th or 51cm to the bottom edge of the sliding door rail (see picture).

Place the backing plate of the strike plate between the sheet metal and the vertical column (a gap of around 5/32nd or 4mm exists). This way you avoid the removal of the sheet metal after installing the strike plate. It is recommended you slightly bend the internal plate of the door column through the external 23/64th or 9mm bottom hole (the one for the strike plate) in an effort to move it slightly away from the external sheet metal allowing for an easier placement of the backing plate (do not force the insertion).

www.sprinteraccessories.com – www.promasteraccessories.com – www.transitaccessories.com 10

Since the gap between the outer sheet metal and the inner sheet metal of the column has slight radius, there is a possibility that the strike plate may not be perfectly perpendicular to the body of the lock (left picture). In this case, the lock may not close as designed and it is advised that the strike plate be carefully adjusted until it perfectly perpendicular with the lock body (right picture). Continue with the steps 4, 5 and 6 per GENERAL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS.

Turn the key clockwise and pull out the lock cylinder body.

Loosen the screws holding the lock.

Unscrew the upper clasp hook removing the cable and hook pulling it from the inside. Place the lock inside the tailgate housing.

www.sprinteraccessories.com – www.promasteraccessories.com – www.transitaccessories.com 14

Modify the inner-plate as indicated in photo.

You may cut the inner backing plate as shown to the right in order to easily place it behind the external body skin avoiding the tight tolerance of the double internal body skin sheets. Continue with the steps 4, 5 and 6 per GENERAL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS.

SIDE DOOR Remove the paneling from the sliding and right side doors.

Tape the drill template to the door aligning the vertical dashed line of the template with that of the vertical door skin fold lip edge as shown and prepare to drill. The vertical distance from the horizontal midpoint of the lock body is 3-3/4” or 9.5cm to the upper edge of the sliding door rail (see picture). Mark the 4 perimeter holes to be drilled out at 23/64th or 9mm. Pay special attention to the 2 holes on the door fold edge (right of the dashed line) where the inner and outer skin panels join verifying that the intended drill center point for

In order to apply the backing plate, it is suggested that you completely or partially remove the OEM standard lock and handle from the vehicle by carefully backing off the mounting screws as shown in the photo.

Laterally to the door, carefully back off the screws holding the external portion of the lock handle without removing it completely as shown in the photo.

Unscrew the fasteners holding the handle support and move it aside without removing it completely which will ensure sufficient access to position the backing plate.

TO BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED LOCK OR SECURITY PROFESSIONAL FOR BEST RESULTS. SIDE DOOR Lock installation on this door requires: 1. The use of steel expansion rivets and anti-theft bolts included in the kit. 2. The drilling access holes to insert the lock backing plate. 3. Drilling for M8 nuts (without backing plate). For the placement of the strike backing plate, it is suggested that a larger than normal access hole be created using a hole saw.

Remove the paneling from the left and right side door. Removing the side panel requires that you disconnect of the 12V power supply.

To compensate for the hard slope of the door, misalign the vertical axis of the drilling template by about 6mm from the top edge of the sliding guide when taping into place (see picture). The vertical distance from the horizontal midpoint of the lock body is 6-5/8tjs or 17cm to the upper edge of the sliding door rail (see picture).

To position the backing plate for the strike plate, create access by using a hole saw from inside on the column (photo of dotted circular line to right). Insert the backing plate between the sheet metal and the column (space of 4mm) using a blade with adhesive (photo below).

Position the lock using the rivnuts (steel expansion rivets) with M6 bolts as supplied.

In order to position the backing plate, the access hole can be placed on the front or on the side edge (photo to right). You may complete this step not using a backing plate as shown below.

M6 anti-theft Bolts Expansion steel rivets

In order to complete this step without the use of a backing plate and bypassing the use of a hole saw, you would need to make two holes (step drill) to only accommodate the M8 nut(s) and wrench. In this case, you will have elected to reduce your overall strength to that of the two M8 nut heads.
