Big Ridge (near Cashes Bank). It is a broken and rocky bit of bottom working from the hint of thesoutheastern part of the terrain, at about 10 kilometers S. in the buoy on Ammens Rock and roll andabout 82 miles SE. ? S. in the lightship at Portland, to a degree about 20 miles S. by E. from the buoynamed. Its length will not be to be reported definitely, in fact it is probably in excess of heredisplayed. The thickness averages about 1? to 2 miles. Depths come from 65 to 80 fathoms andmore, raising gradually as it goes from the main banking institution. The types and their conditionsof plethora here are as on Cashes Bank. Perhaps this is much more of a cod and cusk ground than isthe principal part of Cashes Bank, the cusk simply being particularly plentiful during March andApril. Halibut are found in May and June in from 50 to 60 fathoms water. A considerable amount ofthe fish shown within the table from the catch in the area incorporated into Cashes Bankinginstitution may well have come out of this piece of ground.

This is considered one of the top minn kota maxxum grounds for cod and haddock in the Gulf ofMaine, but the haddock catch on this page has fallen off lately. Hake are very ample during thesummer time and often throughout October on the muddy base near the edge. Inside 100 fathoms,on the "punkin" underside of stones and pea gravel, near the mud, haddock can be found from Decto March. Cod, pollock, and cusk occur from May to October, the first kind on the difficult andgravelly portions, the second on the deep soundings, using the Northeast Top the best summertimeground. This can be an especially good winter and fall ground for haddock. Halibut tend to be foundin 35 fathoms (modest fish) from September through December; also In spring and early summer. No gill netting of importance as yet, even if this ground is fished by vessels from Cape Cod, Mass., toCutler, Me., mainly by trawling, some hand-lining.

The Ridge (about the southern part of Fippenies). This is SSE. from the light-ship at Portland 75miles and it has a bottom part of yellowish mud and pebblespebbles and depths of 75 to 95 fathoms. Most numerous in February and March; haddock in Dec and January; hake in Sept . and October, despite the fact that cod are present here in December and Jan; cusk the year all around. The lengthof this bank comes from 4 to 5 miles and the size somewhat below 2 mls. It is based on an ENE. andWSW. direction.

Off Newburyport and N. and SW. in the Isle of Shoals are gill-netting grounds that are much used.Trawling and netting are maintained, beginning in 40 fathoms in February and March and workingoff and away to 70 fathoms off Salisbury Bench in May. Cod are on this ground about two weeks inOctober and then in Mar and Feb . are found in abundance off Boars Head. Hake can be found hereall the fall and are found all along the southeast side of those grounds in depths of 45 to 60 fathoms.A certain amount of halibut may be taken in most yrs at numerous points on a bottom of hard peagravel in spring and early summer in 35 to 65 fathoms. In most yrs a large amount of mackerel isadopted Jeffreys, notably so in 1925. Herring, also, are usually abundant here in "herring years".

A compact shoal inside the western part of the Cove of Jeffreys, possessing 50 fathoms over a baseof glowing blue clay and rocks and rising in the 60 and 70 fathom soundings about it, is about 1? along way long by about 3/4 mile vast. This shoal is SSE. from Benefit Island 15 miles. This is a winterterrain for haddock and cod.

Pollock Rip Grounds. These rest between Pollock Rip Shovelful and Lightship Lightship and increasenorthward to Pollock Rip Shoal. These grounds are 3 kilometers long, E. and W., by 2 miles N. and S.The depths range from 4 to 12 fathoms. These are typically fished from Monomoy and in stormy

weather from Chatham instead of visiting the Crab Ledge. Late in the spring and at the beginning ofthe slip the cod move inshore. In winter the cod abandon Pollock Rip for the greater water.

East area of Cape Cod. The water bottom away from the east part of Cape Cod is mainly sandy andslopes off gradually through the beach, reaching depths of 30 to 40 fathoms at 5 to 7 miles fromland. Beneath Chatham the slope is even more slow. Within these limits great catches of cod aretaken at times, and to a less degree the same is true of haddock. Farther away from the shoreline, infrom 40 to 80 fathoms and from your point 8 or 10 miles away from the Highlands of Cape Cod toanother point lying 20 miles or maybe more SSE. from Chatham Lights, is a steady stretch ofexcellent haddock grounds for winter sportfishing. The deep normal water off Chatham furnishessuperb hake sport fishing in slip and summer time.

[Footnote 13: There has been some conjecture as to the beginning of the relatively unusual title ofthis lender. The writer would note that there was an Edward Tillie inside the Company of CaptainJohn Smith when he explored this region in 1614 and a Tilly (perhaps the same person) whocontrolled a minn kota maxxum station at Cape Ann throughout the years 1625 and 1624.]

A ridge being untruthful NW. of Cashes Bank and virtually parallel together with the main lender, only divided by a filter deep channel, is about 7 miles lengthy by 1? miles large. The types and theconditions are the same on this page as on Cashes Banking institution.

This ridge lies in a SE. and NW. direction, extending relatively indefinitely but for at least 10 milesby about 3 miles in width. On the ridge the base is shattered--a hard base of black colored gravel, which normally means an effective fishing spot--the depths right here being from 85 to 90 fathoms. There are numerous dirty spots between these harder pieces of floor where soundings run to 100fathoms or slightly more. The nearby bottom is mostly of mud, and the depths average from 100 to125 fathoms. There are a number of pieces of gravelly hard ground in the location, each of whichprobably would furnish just as good sportfishing for cod and cusk with the same conditions asaround the ridge.

A few-Dory Ridge. Away from New Ledge and about midway between it and Harvey Blacks Ridge is alittle ridge about 3 a long way long, operating NE. and SW., and approximately ? mile broad. This isplaced SE. by S. from your Portland Lightship. 38 kilometers to the shoal of 55 fathoms, whichhappens to be near its center. Out of this the ground ski slopes away on all sides to 65 and 63fathom depths over which area the base is made up of beach sand, mud and gravel and rocks. Atthese reduce depths are normally found "pipes" (clay cylinders), where minn kota maxxum endsunexpectedly. All about the ridge are depths of 80 to 100 fathoms with a bottom of mud. This can bealmost completely a cod ground, excellent from Could to August.

This can be essentially a cod terrain for the entire 12 months, the varieties being most abundantfrom May 1 to November. It is a cusk ground every one of the year around the hard bottom of thefurther parts, April and March showing the biggest schools. Hake also are numerous in 70 fathomsand deeper in the mud in summer and fall.

Evidently the great quantity of cod on this soil is due to the excellent quantity of shrimps and gentle-shelled crabs found on the muddy bottom and on the rocks that compose this ground. There seem tobe several of these deep-water grounds about and between the shoaler grounds, as near Cashes,Fippenies, and Jeffreys, which apparently serve as fairways over in which the schools of hake, cod,and cusk, move from Georges Lender into the Gulf of Maine in the spring of the year.

Howard Nunans Ridge. Of similar nature to the final, this rises 4 miles inside of and parallel into it,

Page 3: Fishing Grounds of the Gulf 1 08

lying 14 miles from Cape Porpoise on the same bearings (SE. by S. ? S.). This seems to be made upof two shoals, the northern increasing to 50 fathoms of water over a rocky, broken bottom about 3miles extended by 1 mile broad, deepening southwesterly to a narrow, muddy gully, where are 80fathoms, and soaring again to 60 fathoms over stones and shattered ground. The full ground isaround 8 miles long with average widths of from 1 to 1? kilometers. This floor furnishes great codsportfishing and haddocking from the fall and early winter and yet again in the spring several weeks.

This financial institution is now mostly an Italian boat terrain and is made use of by small createfrom Boston and Gloucester. Gill-netting here is specially extensive in December and October, mostly for pollock. Netters operate about 22 kilometers SSE. from Eastern Part of 22 to 25 fathomson a difficult bottom. Excellent pollock catches are made in 25 to 40 fathoms about the southeasternand eastern slopes in the latter part of November and early December. Haddock are here fromNovember 1 to March 1 and from April 20 to May 15. Cod are present all the 12 months, the largestschool occurring in the course of August, Sept . and October. It really is a cusk terrain from Octoberto March in the further water. What seems a somewhat unconventional occurrence in these latermany years was the appearance of a considerable institution of halibut on the north slope ofStellwagen throughout the last half of Apr 1926, several small create getting from 2,000 to 3,000pounds in their fares.

Outer Crab Ledge. The center lies about 14 miles ESE from Chatham Lights. It extends about 5 or 6kilometers in a N. and S. direction which is about 1 mile vast. Depths work from 19 to 23 fathoms;the bottom is difficult. The minn kota maxxum is principally for cod in the spring, winter months andslip. Vessel minn kota maxxum here is principally in the spring.

Stellwagen Lender also called Midst Bank. This separates Massachusetts Bay through the opennormal water of the Gulf of Maine and runs from close to Cape Ann nearly to Cape Cod. The centerof this ground bears S by E ? E from Thacher N and Isle by W ? W from Highland Lighting, CapeCod. The The southern part of Part of the Lender is distant 5? a long way from Competition PointCape Cod, and its particular northwest prong reaches to within 12 or 15 miles of Eastern Point CapeCod. The shoaler portion, with depths from 9? to 19 fathoms, is 17? miles extended in a N by S andW by E course and has a width of 4 miles. This portion is sandy but the eastern slope, in depths offrom 25 to 55 fathoms, contains coarse sand gravel and pebbles. On this gravelly slope cod andhaddock happen to be taken plentifully over a lasting of years, the cod in the slip and early springand the haddock in the winter months. On the southern conclusion of the financial institution andinvolving this and Race Position cod abound in slip and winter season. The complete bank is anothermackerel terrain when the seafood are in these waters, the best from the season averaging to befrom July 15 through Sept ..

Maurice Lubee's Floor. This is placed outside of New Ledge (Platts Bank) 47 miles SSE. from thelightship at Portland. Extending in a ENE. and WSW. route, its boundaries are somewhat indefinite. It really is perhaps 8 miles lengthy by 3 miles large and has depths from 95 to 110 fathoms over abottom consisting mostly of mud.

Jeffreys Ledge bears S. ? W. from the lightship off Portland, 19 mls to the north edge and 22 a longway S. from your buoy in the Hue and Cry to the side of the shoal.

Fifty-five Fathom Bunch. To the west of Cashes Bank is really a rocky ridge extending ENE. andWSW. about 4 miles and achieving a size of about 1 mile. This really is mainly a cod soil, theconditions for the varieties being as on Cashes Bank.

Jeffreys Ledge. Jeffreys Ledge can be considered one of the better minn kota maxxum grounds

Page 4: Fishing Grounds of the Gulf 1 08

within the Gulf of Maine, even though of relatively small dimensions. It appears to be an extension ofthe shoal terrain that makes away from in an easterly direction from Cape Ann, it is about 20 mileslong in a NE. and SW. direction and about 4 miles vast. Its southern limits is 42? 54' and its upperlimit 43? north latitude; its western and eastern borders may be put at 69? 58' and 70? 18' westernlongitude. The bottom is difficult on the shoaler parts, with gravel and pebbles on the edges. Depthson the bank are from 27 to 35 fathoms, falling to 40 or 50 on the ends. The shoalest water is situatedfrom 4 to 5 miles N. by E. from the buoy, where there is 22 fathoms. Ordinarily there is little or notide, with an occasional present SW. You will find, however, solid westerly currents with the heftyeasterly wind, and often right after a period of minor weather with no strong tides there will all of asudden develop a hefty SW. stream, indicating the approach of any strong northwester. This looks ageneral rule in the Gulf of Maine and is, probably, prevalent more than much of our North Atlanticcoast.

This shoreline furnishes excellent mackerel minn kota maxxum throughout most of the year whenthese minn kota maxxum are in northern waters. Virtually no gill-netters function here, the space tomarket becoming great and the chance of difficult weather and the lack of safe harbor so that it isdangerous for small art. From this stretch of shoreline (mostly from off Chatham) there were landedat Boston in the year 1923, 66 fares with a complete of 1,797,826 pounds worth $76,875.

Tobins. A name given to a piece of ground about 20 miles sq lying S. by E. from the Highland Light. It runs from about 40 miles to about 60 a long way offshore, the depths steadily increasing as thebottom slopes away uniformly from the shoreline from 75 to 95 fathoms across a bottom of clay, sand, and pebbles. Cod are taken within thesummer and spring, and fall, and haddock inMarch andFeb ., and April. A few hake are undertaken here in summer season, but, as compared with thegrounds off Chatham, this is not to be considered a hake ground.

Expected E. from your buoy on Ammens Rock and roll about 12 miles is placed a ridge that increasesfrom the 100 to 120 fathom depths about it to a depth of about 80 fathoms over a bottom part ofshatteredsoil and terrain, and seashells. This shoaler piece is a few 3 a long way long. N. by E. andS. by NW., by 1 mile wide. It furnishes good minn kota maxxum for cod, hake, and cusk in thespring, April being the most effective season.

Southeast Jeffreys. Off the southeast edge of Jeffreys, about 24 miles SE. from Boon Island, is a pieceof fishing terrain having a hard bottom ofgravel and fine sand, and stones, where depths slope asidegradually through the 50-fathom soundings near the major body of the bank to the 90-fathom symbolfarther out. This area is a good ground for haddock and cod in the spring and winter plus a hakefloor in March. This angling place is about 3 or 4 miles sq . and is bounded on all but the traditionalwestern side by muddy bottom, which is of little importance as a minn kota maxxum ground. Usuallythere is certainly good haddocking in Mar on the outside of Jeffreys, on its southeastern edge as wellas in the cove between it and Tillies in 70 and 60 fathom depths on a broken and muddy underside. This place lies SE ? from the Isle of Shoals, 27 mls to the centre.

Nantucket Shoals. This stretch of pubs and further waters among, roughly triangular in type with itsapex at the north, lies across the western side of the To the south Channel, stretching out S. and SE.in the southern finish of Cape Cod and Nantucket Island. From Monomoy Point to Rogers FishingGround, on the eastern edge of Phelps Bank, it is actually SSE. 80 miles. Its width from SoutheastRips to the western edge of New South Shoal is 40 miles. The area includes several "angling spots"and shoals, among which the following are the most important: Pollock Rip Rose, Terrain and CrownShoal, Excellent Rip, Davis Bank, Minn Kota Maxxum Rip, New and Outdated South Shoal, andPhelps Bank.

Page 5: Fishing Grounds of the Gulf 1 08

Lying about SE. by S. ? 5. from the Isle of Shoals 20 mls, 13 a long way S. by W. from your whistlingbuoy on Jeffreys, and 43 miles S. by W. from Cape Elizabeth is actually a broken bit of bottomexperiencing from 75 to 85 fathoms of water over it, which is a haddock ground from January toApril along with a cusk and hake ground all of the year.

Clay-based Ridge. At various points about the ends of Jeffreys Ledge are small detached ridges, which in their time of year are good minn kota maxxum reasons. The present component of groundis situated 26 a long way S. by W. in the lightship at Portland, which course and distance deliver ustowards the northern edge. Elsewhere soundings average from 65 to 70 fathoms over a bottom ofchallenging clay, while there is a 50-fathom shoal of small size upon it. The length of the floor isabout 4 miles NNE. and SSW., and the breadth about 1 mile. This furnishes good haddocking inJanuary, Feb. and Mar. the latter four weeks showing the most effective fishing.

Fippenies Bank. This consists of two shoals averaging 80 fathoms in depth having a channel of 90fathoms between them. These run NE. and SW., the eastern shoal about 8 miles long by 1 distancewide, the western about half as sizeable. Fippenies bears E. 1/4 S. from Thacher Tropical island, distant 61 miles; from Portland Lightship, SE. by S. ? S, 57 mls to the european point of the northernshoal in 35 fathoms. The financial institution is nearly 10 miles very long NE. and SW. and averages4? miles broad. The bottom is ofgravel and pebbles, and clay, getting depths over much of the shoalof around 30 fathoms but also from 36 to 60 fathoms. It is fished by the shoreline fleet in the springand early on summer. The fish and periods are as on Cashes Bank. It has changed in recent times, even though earlier twice as numerous haddock had been taken here as on Cashes or on Platts Bank.Halibut are considered here in fair numbers in 45 to 55 fathom depths inJune and July, and Auguston the "black gravel" of your traditional western and the southern area of edge. The "white coloredgravel" on the to the north shoal is of very little account like a fishing ground, because it iscomposed generally of the seashells of dead scallops.

A comparatively unknown and seemingly as however unnamed ridge lies E. by S. 15 a long way fromthe buoy on Cashes Ledge, which can be reported to be excellent minn kota maxxum ground, specifically cod and cusk. With both species present on this page the year around, the cod isreported to be most plentiful in Apr and May: as well as the cusk, as is also the principle on theseoutlying ridges, appears in largest numbers in March and Apr. Haddock seem to be fairly rare onthis page.

About the inner aspects of this floor, particularly, the gill-net fleet operates thoroughly, mainly insidethe full and spring, on northwest Jeffreys 8 to 12 kilometers E. and SE. from Thacher Island, wherethe bottom part is fine sand and rocks. Other gill-netting grounds are 8 to 15 kilometers NE. by E.from Thacher Tropical island in 22 fathoms with a hard base of dirt and combined material of sandand gravel. The Cove of Jeffreys, NE. by E. 12 to 15 miles from Thacher Tropical island, is a favoredhaddock soil in the spring (Apr 20 to May 15) in 45 to 70 or even 80 fathoms, though gill nets are notusually fished in than 50 fathoms as a result of, weight from the nets in the deeper water. In thespring (in May and April), the haddock may be found in on Scantum, 10 a long way NNE. fromThacher Tropical island between Jeffreys Ledge and also the Isle of Shoals, on the broken base ofrocks and glowing blue clay in 55 to 70 fathoms.

Tillies Bank. [13] This bears E And S from Eastern Level Light just dropping Thacher Island Light, then 3 miles even farther for best sportfishing: and E. by S. ? S. from Thacher Island, Cape Ann,from which the shoal on the core of the ground is distant 18 miles. It is a small rocky spot withdepths of from 25 to 28 fathoms, beyond which the drinking water deepens to 40 fathoms over asignificant area. The size of the entire floor is about 10 miles within an E. and W. direction and thethickness about 5 miles. At the edge it falls away from rapidly to depths of 50 to 60 fathoms before

Page 6: Fishing Grounds of the Gulf 1 08

getting to the soil at nonetheless greater depths but a place of shoal water hooks up this groundwith To the west Jeffreys. The base is rough and rocky over the greater part of the bank. Tillies wasformerly regarded as one of the best minn kota maxxum reasons off Cape Ann which is still resortedto for cod and haddock in the fall and spring; for hake inside thespring and summer, and drop, andfor pollock in the spring and drop. The fishing is mainly by trawling, together with the gillnettersfunctioning on the shoal grounds in less than 50 fathoms.

Another huge ridge, paralleling the 100-fathom curve of Georges Lender at about 20 kilometers N.of it, lies SE by S from the buoy on Cashes Ledge, 40 miles to the center; SE by S 110 mls fromPortland Lightship; ESE 92 kilometers from Cape Ann to its western finish, and E. by S. ? S. fromyour ship at Boston 100 miles. This ridge also is of considerably indefinite place, being perhaps 20kilometers long in an ESE by WNW course by 1? to three miles wide. Obviously depths are fairlystandard from 85 to 95 fathoms, the foot of the ridge being of coarse black colored sand and havingblue mud in the greater area around it. This is said to be a good cod and cusk ground the seasonround.

Eastern Shoal Water of Cape Ann. This is typically considered an element of Jeffreys and it is oftenspoken of as West Jeffreys by the fishermen. It expands In an ENE. direction from Cape Ann for adistance of from 15 to 18 miles. It is, in fact, a southwest continuation of Jeffreys Ledge, the twocreating a almost continuous ridge running NE. from Cape Ann a distance of approximately 42 mls.Depths in the so-called Eastern Shoal Normal water vary from 20 to 45 fathoms, the bottom being ofrocks, pebbles, and coarse gravel above most of its extent. Beach sand and dirt arise on the edges. The eastern part of the ground is resorted to by the haddock fleet during the slip and early winter, and also other parts are visited pretty much during the complete year forcod and haddock, andpollock by boats and vessels from Cape Ann and by craft of various sorts from Portland and Boston-line trawlers, gill-netters, and a few of the new type of little otter trawlers, this second option fleet ofcreate constantly increasing in number.

Morris Ledge. This is placed eastward of Chatham and is also a favorite soil for certain codfishermen during spring and early summer. Schooners and small craft operate right here.

A small cove makes for a shorter distance in the western side of Jeffreys Ledge at about 20 milesfrom Boon Tropical island in a SE. by S. ? S. direction. The bottom within the cove is broken andmuddy, with depths of around 60 fathoms. Thence, the floor slopes away to the mouth area, wherethe sides about the entry are rocky and have 75 and 70 fathom depths. These rocky places are cuskgrounds inJanuary and February, and Mar, during which months the cove itself usually furnishesvery good haddock minn kota maxxum. Outside the house these depths the water deepens westwardover a muddy bottom, where are from 80 to 90 and in many cases 100 fathoms of water. Minn KotaMaxxum this is mainly by trawl and gill nets.

[Dinner table 3--Outside Fishing Grounds, showing the principle species taken on them.]

On the ledgecod and haddock, and cusk are consumed the full winter season and springpossibly, spring and winter supplying the best sport fishing. There are more or less pollock, and hakeconstitute a crucial part of the find. In individuals seasons when herring make their appearance inthese waters the seiners make good attracts here, mostly of meals fish, as the sizeable herring aretermed through the trade. The mackerel, also, appear on these grounds and also on the smallerreasons nearer to shore to northward and westward in good-sized educational institutions, usuallyfrom July 1 through September. For many years the haddock find from this bank has been ofconsiderable value, and this document remains true for the past several years as well.

Page 7: Fishing Grounds of the Gulf 1 08

Wild Pet cat Ridge. Very heavy tides sweep over this floor, making it difficult to haul gear in minnkota maxxum on it, whence, it is said, is available the name. It is situated NNE from HighlandLighting, Cape Cod, 18 miles to its the southern area of edge; SE ? S from Thacher Island 31 miles;and is about 7? mls long in a north and south direction by about 3? miles wide. The bottom isdifficult, of broken shells and sand, and depths come from 45 to 60 fathoms. There are 100 fathomdepths inside of the floor and from 100 to 110 fathoms outside of it. Apparently, it is an all the 12months ground for cod, cusk, and haddock, although but little fished at any time other than thewinter conditions.

The gill-net fishery on these grounds is of fantastic and gradually growing importance, thoughpreviously this fishery was nearly entirely carried on by trawlers and fingers-liners. Of late thegreater part of the haddock catch continues to be taken from the "otter-trawl" technique, this itemsbeing managed by steamers of significant size and upon the more distant reasons, such as GeorgesBank, the South Channel, and the European Bank. A similar change to minn kota maxxum groundsfarther overseas has to a fantastic extent occurred in the fleet of larger sailing vessels, hence leavingJeffreys and other inshore banks to the smaller art; except that, with the high prices of haddock andcod in the winter months, it is often successful for these larger sized vessels to perform off to near-by banks for starters set and return to port the same day.

John Dyers Ridge. This is 14 kilometers S. by E. from Toothakers Ridge, 40 miles S. by E. fromMonhegan Island, and 7 miles NE. from Cashes Bank. It really is about 5 miles lengthy by 2 milesbroad, lying in an ENE. and WSW. direction. The water is shoalest about the western advantage, where are from 45 to 50 fathoms over a razor-sharp, pebbly underside; thence the floor slopes to theNE. into 80 and 75 fathoms spanning a hard, gravelly, and dirty bottom, in most otherrecommendations falling off sharply to 90 and 100 fathom soundings over a dirty bottom.

GEORGES Place

Jerry Yorks Ridge. This lies just inside and paralleling Jeffreys Ledge WNW. from its shoal watercontributing to 5 kilometers distant from your ledge contributing to 18 a long way SE. by S. ? S.from Cape Porpoise. This ground has from 45 to 48 fathoms of water on a rocky broken bottom part.It is about 5 kilometers long, NNE. and SSW., and averages 1? miles wide. This is an excellenthaddock and cod ground Inside the fall and up to Jan, these minn kota maxxum coming back here inthe spring months.

On and about all these shoals the sail fleet makes great catches, generally consisting of cod but witha fair proportion of pollock, also, and in the deeper h2o close to them, in spring and summer, aconsiderable amount of haddock. An occasional large halibut is taken, and even good attracts havebeen noted. There were mentioned in the every day report from the Boston Minn Kota MaxxumBureau between May possibly 15 and August15 and 1920, 10 trips created by the smaller vessels ofthe halibut fleet that landed fares of from 2,000 to ten thousand pounds on this species from thisarea. If the halibut fishery would be adopted here like other areas, possibly more could be taken."Rip sport fishing," as executed here, is completed "with a drift," moving over the shoals and, as theyrelocate off from their store, sailing returning to repeat the process. The minn kota maxxum areused by hand-lining with "cockle" lure or by "jigging" the minn kota maxxum with a sparkling pieceof steel representing a herring or similar sea food, beneath which are established twin hooks, theminn kota maxxum becoming struck after it is felt looking into the attract. This fishery generally iscarried on in the course of July, May and June and August. In the herring and mackerel seasonsthese grounds usually supply good minn kota maxxum for these particular species, the fish usuallyhitting here from May 15 to July 15.
