Mock Interviews Lead to Real JobsBy Heather Carpenter, Director of Career Services On Friday, March 26, Fisher College seniors participated in mock interviews with area recruiters and HR managers. Students prepared resumes, participated in a mock interview workshop as part of senior project, and dressed the part to answer interview questions for a real job posting.

When asked how they felt about the afternoon, recruiters were thrilled with the students’ performances. “I loved every second of it. Your students were wonderful and I would hire any one of them,” said Ken Tebbetts, HR Manager for the Boston Globe. Other students did so well that recruiters asked them to send their resumes and keep in touch so they could help them land a job.One student took it a step further and asked her mock interviewer if he knew of any jobs she might qualify for. He took her resume and has set her up for a job interview with a company he consults with.

In addition to the HR Manager for the Globe, recruiters included: Fisher College’s very own Gary Parnham and Jack Roche, Jason Dekow from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Dave Burt from Fidelity, Doug McNeilly from Liberty Mutual, Sean Wahl from Winter Wyman, Lisa Dewhurst from American Personnel, and two Fisher College alumni: Nichole Romano ’82 and Linda Doliber ’69. A special thank you to Neil Trotta for helping to locate mock interviewers.

Chronic Pain a Problem for One in Four Massachusetts Adults

One in four Massachusetts adults between the ages of 18 and 70+ has experienced serious chronic pain and one in three of those have ended up in the emergency room, according to a poll commissioned by the Massachusetts Pain Initiative.

The survey revealed the significant impact undertreated pain has on quality of life and productivity, and highlighted the difficulty Massachusetts residents have in finding effective care for their pain.

The survey also showed the significant disparities in serious chronic pain and pain care experienced by Massachusetts’ minorities and the poor. They report higher levels of pain, are less likely to have their pain diagnosed, have more difficulty obtaining adequate care, and are more pessimistic about finding relief for their pain.

The random telephone poll of 600 Massachusetts residents was conducted from the 3rd to the 12th of February by Fisher College.
