Please add my name to the petition

Please add my name and address to the petition to stop GM potatoes being introduced in South Africa.

Please could you add my name to your petition against South African genetically modified potatoes on the market.I am EXTREMELY concerned about the long term health effect of consuming GMO's!

The more GM foods realeased in South Africa, the more consumers and farmers alike will be at the mercy of big businesses who patent our foods. In the future, the demand will grow for the increasingly rare non-GMO food. Show some forsight. Protect consumers rights to real food and SA farmers likelihoods in the future.

NicolettePlease respond favourably to this petition.

GM is contributing to global poverty by putting food production in the hands of first world corporations. I do not buy GM products if I can possibly help it - introducing GM is a human rights infringement on a number of levels.

Thank you for the illumination

Please keep our food healthy and free on man's manipulation for greed and monopaly. By changing the food DNA you jeapodise our health and as a nation already compromised by HIV and other life threatening diseases plus malnutition, you are playig with fire and weakening the next generation which we cannot afford to do. Please don't mess with our food/energy source. Rather help the farmers find ways of increasing the production of organic farming.

I buy only from stores where they sell non GM foods.

for the love of God...?????!!!!

Let us be natural with nature.

I'm dead against ALL GM modified foods and will avaoid them. Why must SA be used as a dumping ground for products the first world countries have rejected outright ? We should be supporting the drive back to nature - the way it should be. Stop killing us with GM foods. WE DON'T WANT THEM !

I do not support the release of GMO potatoes

Page 130: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

Bad news!

absolutely no way. we suffer just so they can sell a potato with a longer shelf life???? never!!!!!

no GMO thanks

ARC should be focussing on agro-ecological farming and GMOs as per the recommendation of the IAASTD World Agricultural Report. Stop wasting our tax payers money on outdated and flawed attempts to achieve food security.no no no!I chose not to eat any GM food and as GM products are not labeled releasing GM potatoes will mean I will no longer be free to buy potatoes that are not certified oragnic.

We dont know what is long term effects and also what are they putting into the potatoes

I already suffer with a auto-immune desease due to all the hormones in our meat now THIS?Leave it alone

As we are not certain of the long term effects of GM on the food chain no one should rush into this before a thorough study over years has been done.

no good stop this nonsens pleaseI do not want to have to feed GM food to my children ...

I want the right to choose what I eat - give me that choice and I give you my continued support!!

No long term impirical evidence that there is no risk to health problems of any kind.

we are a large family and wish 7 of us to be added to the petition WE ARE STRONGLY AGAINST THIS GM PRODUCT BEING RELEASED WITH THANKS

please stop this potatoe from being released. we already have enough health issues to deal with, without manufacturing them! Let us support local farmers in order to stimulate our economy. First world farmers are heavily subsidized which makes it hard for developing world to compete with them. We are facing food crisis and it will soon be very difficult to procure food from outside the region.

i definitely support the movement which works in the interests of our collective health and well-being as a species No GM Potatoes.I dont care what the pro-GMO scientists say, I want and demand my birth right of being able to eat food made by my Creator without the risk of harming the environment irreversibly as is the case with GMO's.

WHAT NEXT

Page 131: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

We reject the GM potatoes and we will not allow them in South Africa we want and demand certified Organic foods.I am against this gm modified potato

I am vehemently opposed to the use of GM foodstuffs.

lets be healthy - nation

Well done

I think that it is an abomonation, and I will definately not buy GM potatoes.

I agree. We must take care of our earth and not destroy it.

It is a pity that it is always the greedy few who will attempt anything at the expense of the majority. Most (all) of GM foods and seeds is usually about taking control. Most worryingly taking control of the people, their freedom, and their rights. STOP it NOW!ALL natural is the way to go, lets all just be naked

Prevention for me is far better than cure.We must push for healthy human life. we can not sacrifice people's health in exchange for money.

GM poison for Africa WE insist on our right to information and choice.

This is the start of disaster. They who produce GM seed operate under the guise of hiumanity where in fact they are organizing to corner the world's supply of seedstock and thereby control the supplky of food. Gm modified seed is the modern day Trjan Horse and not only destroys choice, but seeks to dominate. The profound truth that 'all the flowers of all the tomorrows are contained in the seeds of today" is in danger of being destroyed and the risks created are unacceptable. Genetic tinkering of this sort is amoral and should be designated a crime against humanity.Am against all GM food products for health reasons and do not see their benefit, comercially, to farmers in Africa

Consumers must be given the choice. Many of us want to avoid eating GM foodstuffs. Labelling of GM tainted products is essential.

Page 132: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

lets try and keep healthy.Absolutely unacceptable !Under no conditions should permission be granted. Our biotech program mearly allows the ignorant to think they belong to the first world. Shame on you

Genetically modified potatoes are not what I'll be eating! Farmers will lose money on me for sure.

I believe that all non GMO crops should first be utilized in SA before any exports are done then we will not have to rely on GMO crops to sustain our own markets. No GMO goods should be allowed into SA.

It is a human right to have access to natural foods. Why is it that so many people/companies just think about filling their pockets, irrespective of being part of health deterioration, especially for the children who are the future of the world!!!!

I will grow my own rather than eat this garbage. Please do not allow this to happen. ThanksPlease don't sacrifice our health to short term commercial profit. It willcost the country more in the end.No thanks to GM foods of any kind.As a Bee-keeper I am acutely concerned about the problems that genetically modifiying plants will have further down the line. Colony Collapse Disorder is still not understood, and it is time wwe looked at the small farmer and the small eco-system!

I believe that we should not mess with nature, as it generally comes back to bite you.No to GM foods

GM potatoes do not benefit farmers or consumers. I would not buy GM potatoes

please dont do it

This issue of GM must be looked at holistically. As usual, we look at some so-called 'benefits' and not at the downsides. Why oh why do we do this? It is too late when a mother is looking at a disfigured new born baby, or someone's mother is dying because of physical ailments caused by GM food. It could be YOUR baby or mother.

Page 133: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I don't want to eat such food and I don't want it polluting our environment. Mostly, I don't want our emerging farmers to be influenced by unethical thinking and greed from the est again. Please think about our planet, all its life forms and your own childrens' future and their children before taking steps like this. I am deeply saddened that I cannot put my trust into the hands of present leaders/government/authority/experts (so called). Trust and respect cannot be demanded, it has to be earned. The said entities act, behave and make decisions which are detrimental to South Africa, Africa and it's peoples. In short: NO TO SPUNTA G2 POTATO, AND NO TO ANY FOOD PRODUCTS TAINTED BY GENETIC MODIFICATION!

No GM potatoes for us!I have been following developments in biotech for 12 years and have worked with the SABS on the development of IP standards. My informed opinion is that, on balance, GM cops are a pestilence on the face of the earth. I will not touch any GM product or derivative and urge all my family to do the same.

As a citizen of the present and father of the future I do not want this virus in my world

I endorse your comments. We are very worried to see this developments. Our business supports organic farming and products and rejects GM food! Are you mad!!! Why don't we just give everyone a strain of T.b and be done with itI ABSOLUTELY OPPOSE THE IDEA OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS. IT WILL HAVE A DISASTROUS EFFECT ON THE SMALL SCALE FARMERS. LEAVE AFRICA ALONE!

I oppose the marketing and growing of GMO potatoes and implore the SA GMO council to reject the application outright.absolutely not - never!

It is unnecessary to enforce GM potatoes on consumers, if there are no other, proven, organic, ways to overcome the storage problem, expensive production costs that would have been spent on GM potatoes can be spent on research into more natural more beneficial ways to overcome problems.

Please do not allow this travesty against nature to take place.Permaculture has the solution to all problems such as the tuber moth - and the solution is working WITH nature, not against, in a negative ripple-effect. PLEASE PLEASE don't do this to unsuspecting South Africans.thank you

Page 134: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

Love the GM debate, am a third year student looking to do honours course in globalization of food. Strongly oppose most GM products.we dont need itI like the popato as it isHow far do we have to go to bring up our children? We lovingly clothe and feed them but poison them with food that we have no choice in giving them because we are not informed!!

I can see no benefits for this proposal and am deeply concerned for the future implications if this is approved.I am fervently against gm foods and their impact not only on people but the impact on the environment. I recently read that there has been a worrying drop in the insect population not only in SA but around the world - insects form the backbone of a lot of foodchains and to produce a product that will kill them is abhorrant. What will these potatoes do to other insects and the animals that feed off them?

no GM spuds for SA!

Strongly object to GM potatoes as well as any other GM productsThank you

I largely object due to the impact it will have on local farmers who are already struggling due to global markets

A short while ago we had a very interesting programme on Carte Blanche about a SA farmer finding sustaninable, effective, organic and economical solutions to crop production - why do we need GM anything? Proudly South African?Definately not. Nature has it's own way, why must man interfere in a natural process. Bottom line, it's all about greed and money!

Scientific meddling must be stopped. You cannot re-invent the wheel. Reduce population instead. We need all GM food banned or at the very least tagged so that consumers can make informed decisions about what they are buying

I am partitioning against the GM Potatoes. No GM potatoes in S.A!

Please - no genetically modified crops in South Africa.

We don't want no GM spuds.

I love potatoes to be honest and would prefer continuing to enjoy it the healthy way!!

we cannot sit back and allow unwise decisions to harm the general population for the sake of farmers making moneyRather contribute to organic foods than GM foods - look at whats healthy for the consumer and the ENVIROMENT!

Am against GM potatoAbsolutely not acceptable without full certification process with public disclosure and public debate on advantages and risks with panel of independant researchers and consumers.

Do not allow GMO potatoes to be grown or imported please,. we have done enough damage to this earth

enough with all the GM foods. We need pure, natural and organic foods with the full nutrientnal value in these days and times. As it is there are so much toxins in the air that we breath!!!I am really opposed to GM foods.

I support this petition and oppose the granting of a permit for GM potato growing in South Africa.

No more Frankenfoods for Africa, no more African reliance on the West and large multinationals. Please keep South Africa safe and sustainable.I oppose the growing and marketing of GMO potatoes here in RSA or anywhere else. STOP IT NOW!! GM food contributes to the destruction of bio-diversity of food sources and reduces our right to choose the foods foods we eat and opens society as a whole to unseen risks of famine should an unexpected scourge destroy GM foods. Nature has taken a long time to develop its own systems to protect the plant life on our planet and manmade interventiona such as GM foods may well destroy them in a very short space of time.Have no interest in eating genetically modified vegetables and the continued pursuit of this area of agriculture is focusing valuable time and money on something which is not working towards a sustainable agricultural future. Particularly in a developing economy like South Africa and where agriculture is a major industry the emphasis should determinedly be on long term sustainability and not on quick fix solutions which will ultimately be counter-productive. Finally in a climate of growing consumer awareness GM produce is going to find it has an increasingly diminishing market - an immediate economic downfall.

FaithfullyAlex Halligey

Health is Wealth... People before profits!!

Why is it that man always interferes with God's perfection, and thinks he can do better, have we learned nothing.Don't permit more GM crops in South AfricaAbsolutely NO!!

If GM potatoes are not good enough for Americans, what on earth is USAID doing trying to promote them in Africa?

Give me the right to choose

Stop poisening us!Why need GM potatoes when we have lots of varieties that grow very well. Consumers dont want to be guinea pigs like with cereals!!!

Stay away from our food!!!in my opinion no GM food should be produced as it has already proven to have detremental effect on mankind and the environment

keep potatoes natural! We don't know what GM does to our bodiesI am staunchly opposed to any GM food!stop messing around with nature. We need nature, nature doesn't need us.

Not only do I not support the GM potato, I want more variety of potatoes introducted ... instead of a potato that fits all, we should have the different types for chips, roasting, mashing etc. What happened to these?

Its time to get real with what we put into our bodies & minds.Working in harmony with nature keeps us in our nature.Greed doesnt feed!!Away with manipulation!

This must be stopped immediately. Rights for humans!

Long term risk of GM foods not known. What if somehow consumers are also indirctly GM modified by defaultin the future?we have to respect nature and the whole creation of God

I dont agree with the GM potatoes being available to the public, its not even certain if they will effect us in any way.

Through my refusal to support GM potatoes I hope to help safeguard the health of consumers and of the planet.

Page 137: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I can not comprehend how anyone can even try to condone something with such enormous follow on effects. There are already so many problems that we(humans) have caused that we aren't sure if we can fix. Now here we go throwing in another item to the mix of stupidly justified and badly researched experiments, the effects of which are still largely unknown.Surely rational thought should be applied? From what i have heard about how genetic modification affects us i find it very difficult to understand how the government can consider passing bills that allow, firstly ANY GM products into our country and secondly to not make it imperative for all products with any GM traces in them to have to be marked with a bold red Warning label alerting consumers to what they may be subjecting themselves to.

!!!

I am vehemently opposed to the marketing and growing of GMO potatoes! STOP THIS!!!

In a sane world this would not even be an issue? GM foods are harmful on so many levels and should be banned. When people are informed they choose NOT to eat GM foods. Europe have outright rejected GM. We instinctively know it is no good for us. Please give us infomative labelling we have the right to choose.

Please leave our food free of genetic modification. And if you are going to tamper with our foods please make us aware of this so that we can make our own choices. Many thanks.

Yes please label all the gM FOOD AS I do not want to be eating nonsence that i am not suppose to. I am against all GM food.

Cancer is probably on the rise because of all the chemicals in our food! Help us keep healthy. The end results are the same: WMD & GM- to kill!No To GMOSI most definitely, unequivocally, emphatically and unreservedly DO NOT WANT TO EAT ANY GMO FOOD AT ALL. Including potatoes. Introducing this vegetable (and any others) as a GMO crop to South African farmers and consumers will, due to the nature of the beast, rob me of my right to choose what I eat. It offends me to the core of my being. I see no advantage WHATSOEVER to this, not to me or my fellow South Africans, especially not to farmers and in particular not to poor / emerging /subsistence farmers. As a democratic South African I support their right to make a living while at the same time providing South Africans with REAL food. GMO crops are NOT real food. They are an invention of a greedy multinational company that I consider to be a disaster to the earth and all who live on her.

I say NO NO NO to GMO potatoes.

I understand that the introduction of GM potatoes can distroy many lives. It is based on selfish ideas.

Playing God is only playing havoc with the planet, and all the living beings that inhabit it. This needs to be stopped.

No to GM potatoes in SA

GM Products don't only get rid of the months, the bees who we rely on to pollinate the produce are also affected. That is one of the reasons you now have less bess around.Pls dont mess with mother nature !

No to GM Potato. It is outrageous how far organisations will go to protect their interests at the expense of the public.I refuse to be a guinea pig!

Stop killing us!!

dont want GM foods at all!

Shocking!

Health Concerns

Stop GMO production and let us fight for labelling, for the sake of our children and us as well, for our health. No GM potatoe permit!GM potatoes are engineered with an inbuilt pesticide so the pesticide is now inside the plant and farmers will still use a toxic cocktail of chemicals to combat all the other 99 pests, as well as viral, fungal & bacterial diseases, and weeds that plague potato farming in South Africa. Because the Bt toxin is expressed 24 hours a day, it accumulates in the environment and throughout the food chain.

We should not destroy our own farming industry. Already the potato farmers are doing well in supplying us with the poato they grow. Why bring what may be hazardous to our own peolp? Stop pruduction of GM potatoes or foods.

We should never sign blank cheques.

my research over the past eight years indicates strongly that the release of this product is not in the public interest in South Africa and may cause serious damage to the agricultural sector and to the health of the population.

Page 139: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I oppose any growing and marketing of GMO potatoes - please reject the application

I protest against any trials in my country and elsewhere of the Spunta G2 potato and other related foodstuffs that may have been genetically tampered with. There is much evidence to suggest that genetically modified foodstuffs are not only pointless but may also cause harm to humans, animals and the environment.GMO is not the answer to our food crisis. The answer lies in sustainable agriculture. It is known that Genetically Modified Foods do not propogate themselves beyond the 2nd season, in addition, they are not easily digested precisely because our digestive systems have not been modified for the purpose. No to GM Foods because future flora and fauna will bear the brunt of our meddling. There is already a food crisis, we don't need to perpetuate it.

I protest everything about the GM indsutry - the lack of clarification to consumers, taking away the right to choose, the economic mafia tactics used, the removal of democracy and the impact on farmers, the privatisation of resources, the unbalancing of nature and biodiversity, and mostly the stupidity of our government who refuse to listen to our voices when other governments have applied their minds to this. I am not willing to eat GM potatoes

I have the right to choose what I eat, and do not want my family subjected to GM foodWe have a responsibility to the earth, to our health and to the less informed. It would be an absolute failure if we support the GMO technology proposal to manipulate yet another food crop the potato

Hell no !! this may not happen, keep SA GM food free !!!Iam strongly opposed to GM potatoes being introduced to the SA market.

The risks of GM potatoes to society far outweigh any financial benefit to a few special interests. Please stop them!

all in the name of GOODI have a right to decide what food I eat. So do all the people who are un aware that GM food exists!!

We have a choice not to accept the "cheaper" goods from first world countries that will negatively impact the agricultural industry in our country

Ploease keep Gm potatoes and all other GM products out of Saout Africa and Africa? This should not be imposed on the consumer and consumers should have the right to make an informed decision on what they choose to eat.i support organic farming of natural crops only.

Page 140: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

GMO foods are not fit for consumption. I do not want to eat them or allow my family to eat them. What food will be left to feed us on if everything is allowed to be genetically engineered or modified? Do we have to starve to death? Mosantos and their allies are obscenely wealthy from this GMO practice. They have no conscience about the people who are dying from eating their dead and distorted foods.

We cannot allow GM potatoes to polute our country and our exports. I see no reason or benefit to implement untested science.I will never eat any food that is Genetically Modified or support any program that promotes GMO crops.

stop with GMO this is a human rights issue.

I believe that Africa needs its own seed stock not corporate owned and therefore controlled seed.

Farming needs to be as independent as possibleDo no harm, actively do good, benefit all others. Living by this code one cannot condone this GM food.Even tho potatoes feature well in my diet, I will definately stop eating them if GM potatoes become commercially available.

No GM Products in SA please! Please do not allow GM potatoes into SA

NO way! I will never support GM foods. I am a potatoe lover. Dont' mess with nature she knows better. Can you imagine a GM free South Africa?? If the EU and other countries won't buy GM crops, imagine how much more money South African farmers could make by keeping our young soil and seeds GM free thus selling to the EU etc?

The majority of South Africans are eating toxic staple foods: meat, diary, GM maize, corn, and potentially potatoes.

We dont know the side effects of GM foods. Nature knows best. If there is not enough food to feed everyone, people must change their staple foods - not change the staple foods to make more food!

Most of these people dont have medical aids and so will fall into the hands of State hospitals if/when they fall ill. This is not a fate I wish on anyone. The government needs to act with more responsibility and less short sightedness.

RgsHeidiI reject GM potatoesHow could genetic manipulation ever be considered moral? Look at biofuel and how its caused soaring food prices, and especially opression of the poor again!

There is also no mention of what happens as the gene "wanders" which they are known to do through generations. A different location in the DNA spiral produces a completely different outcome...unpredicted.

Page 141: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I am clearly against the introduction of GM potatoes. Being a scientist, I have no real objection to the research and cultivation of gene technology. However, the current atmosphere and information is rather poisonous. GM material is being foisted on the consumer without clear rational, justification, or impact study. When the alternative (natural potatoes) are still available, the case needs to be strengthened and the introduction of disguised new food geniuses need to be democratically accepted.Stop this...stop this now!Kindly consider the consequences of your pending decision. May the USA, Canada and other GM countries be a warning example. Our country is precious, we have to keep it clean and special.

those who promote this have surely not done an indipendent investigation as to the facts! Please before engaging on this irriversable path of trouble.

Please GMO council, don't let a staple food be tainted by GM. The health of all Africans and our children is too important.

Keep farming organic!!!!!I am against GM foods for a number of reasons - moral, social, and health.

Please wake up to the fact that profit will never ensure genuine prosperity. The earth is our home, its disgusting to think that profit and greed come before ensuring a healthy planet.

tThe risk of consuming GM food is not yet known - I don't want to be an experiment. Organic is the way, now and the future for my and my families health.

Stop GM now. There are no lasting advantages except short term profits for the GM multis!

Many times in the past products such as insecticides and herbicides have been touted as being safe. However, when the unwanted side effects become obvious after several generations these chemicals have quietly removed from the shelves. The side effects of GM products may also take just as long to become obvious but will we be able to rid ourselves of the after-effects or will potatoes be added to the list of poisonous species that man cannot eat?Len

No to GM products in South Africa! Keep us clean and healthy!

keep things as natural as possible! There should be a petition against all GM products. Period. 90% of the mielie crops in the FreeState is GM.

I reject GM Potatoes and any other GM foods.I am not prepared to eat GM foods,I only eat natural food.

Please do not allow this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!time and time again, we fail to hold on to what we believe is best for us, why do we have to be told what is good or bad for us, our agricultural sector is slowly being manifested into a deathbed for africans, we have enough resources to have natural food, lets not bow down to fatal decisions.there is no way that we are letting this go throughI like to eat things just the way God made them - they are perfect as they are!!!GM food stuffs are not healthy or wanted by the majority of people.

I do not want GM foods, research has so far shown that they do not benefit humans and the environment, so therefore I do not want GM foods.

I reject GM Potatoes in the SA market

trust in the logic of Nature - it's brought us this far. trusting the logic of money will bring us to apocalypse.I am perfectly happy with normal potatoes, and am extremely nervous about GM products. I will refuse to buy GM potatoes. We are not dirty bins for any one to throw trash in us.Lets get it onI reject all GM products and insist on my right to choose to eat real food.

Do not allow thisthis is terrible, we need to be made aware of the health impact of all gm foods

No GM food for me please - I don't want Europe's leftoversIf they do allow it, will these potatoes be marked as GM with an indication of what the GM is used for? I feel that as a 2ndary campaign, all foodstuff containing GM should be labelled as such with a short description what specific GM was done on the GM components. E.g. in this case GM Potatoe containing an inbuilt pesticide to control the tuber moth. It should also be clearly indicated that the foodstuff is NOT Organic i.e. pesticides and fertilizers are still used.

Gaia Foundation, UK. African countries should not even be considering approval of GM crops with antibiotic marker resistance, particularly for Kanamycin, a vital tool against tuberculosis in Africa. In addition to the extensive health and environmental risks normally associated with GM crops, the antibiotic resistance marker gene poses an additional clear health risk to many South Africans, by increasing the likelihood that Kanamycin will be rendered ineffective in tuberculosis treatment. This food has not been tested by independent scientists. Quite apart from this it's overall effects have been disastrous on small farmers world-wide.The use of GM in agriculture is both technically and conceptualluy flawed. is a crude, imprecise and highly mutagenic procedure. GM potatoes will carry hundreds if not thousands of genetic mutations that can result in major health risks due to the unexpectted production of toxins. This has been found in at least one published study (Ewen S and Pusztai A, 1999).

Please - no GM potatoesGM is not in the interests of people. It damages the environment and potentially damages human health. The science is purely profit motivated.no gm pleaseIn the US and Canada, animals have consistently refused to eat GM foods. Rats who were force-fed GM tomatoes died. The SA GMO council should take heed. The evidence suggests that GM foods are an unwise move to help farmers and the general population. Please do not allow this to occur, but instead work harder at finding true solutions to the difficulties men face.Tampering with what God has made is risky and dangerous. Greed and ignorance make it deadly.GM is for profit only and not for humans.I am not buying South African produce if its leaders are to allow their own population to be exploited by corporate greed. Africa as a whole should be vigilant. Jenny Louw, I could not have said it better.

I strongly disagree with the production procedures, marketing strategies and nonethical, dictatorship-like practices of the modern multinational biotech companies, as well as their misleading, even false promotion of their gmo/frankenstein products. To me they are an expression of power game for total inhumane control over the world food supply, total denial of respect towards our ancestors and the natural environment and a collapse of human ethics and character. Their hasty, premature and forced introduction and spread in the open environment is a true hazard with biodiversity and Life itself. I refuse to consume any of these products in whatever form and require their immediate ban worldwide. Instead of these short-sighted solutions of worldly waste and overcomsuption, I fully support and recommend to use practises and wisdom of our forefathers, such as the practises of natural organic agriculture and respect and gratitude towards nature and all it's creation.

Melca Mahiber, EthiopiaGM potatoes are dangerous experiment and should never be inflicted on innocent consumers.

the earth becomes a ship of fools and the fools are the greedy ones. Poverty is the consequence of greed. GM products are a curse to the land.Vice president, Washington Biotechnology Action Council (USA)

I undersatnd gentic modification, and human biology. If man has come this far along on the foods that nature has given us leave the gentics out of it. and if it aint broke do not fix it, give us freedom from GMO comglomerates, who will kill us al in the end with their meddling and greed to contol our food.

I would not buy or tell anyone to buy any plants that are grown from GM processes. Potatoes are a staple food and are perfectly suitable for health easily absorbable and able to be grown with few inputs.

Why are we being forced to eat GM foods secretly. GM foods only support greedy companies such as Monsanto. We don't need GM foods, and we certainly don't need to make the GM lobby richer fatter cats than they already are. I will never willingly buy GM foods. I see them as poison.

Developers claims for other GMO crops have proven to be a pack of lies. Why should this case be different? This introduction is an experiment which could have unforseen consequences (these occur regularly with GMO crops) that may be very harmful. No No Nogm food is released by self interested corporations with no concern for the wellfare of the people. My family do not buy or eat GM products and will boycott products from any country that grows GM food.Given the choice, animals will refuse to touch GMO foods. When forced to consume them, they fail to thrive and often die. Not surprisingly, people also experience toxic side-effects, but Monsanto has done everything to stifle this independent research. The toxic genetic splice in the potatoes targeted at the African market is especially frightening. This is potentially is a human tragedy waiting to happen, who knows on what scale. Please protect the African people from the unscrupulous marketing of the large corporations. Please be wise

The UK has rejected the commercial planting of any GM crops as they pose unnacceptable risks to health, biodiversity and the livelihood of farmers. As such they pose a serious threat to food security. There is no evidence to show that GM crops have higher yields than conventional crops or that they use less chemicals or are safe.

Please. Please do not allow this. Our food is contaminated enough. Please do the right thing and not allow this new form of fake food to seed. Praying for a healthier world. MLBthere is no need for a gmo potatoleave my food aloneEdmonds Institute: If these potatoes come with the usual GM requirement to payyearly technology fees to the patent "owners", won't these potatoes in time - as farmers lose contact with their traditional, non-GM varieties - amount to one more added financial burden on already-stressed farmers?

I have absolutely no faith in GMO/E, and I especially oppose the current Canadian Government's attempts to arrange that all GMO/E labelling be stopped. I, as well as many of my friends and acquaintences, now buy organic as that is the only way we can be sure that we are not getting GMO/E ingredients and/or products. Major comapnies will NOT accept GE potatoes because consumers wont accept them and there is no need for them. This is a marketing disaster if you allow GM crops to be approved

Amigos de la Tierra España - Friends of the Earth SpainWhy destroy and stand in the way of Nature... Why repair something that's not broken? Have you nothing better to do? Nature has been taking care of us very well since the beginning of time. Who are we to improve on it? We have seen the results of other GM products on people's health. I'm very satisfied with the potato as it is - just leave it alone.

The GM potatoes like any GM crop will only spell doom for small farmers in South Africa and the SADC region. I oppose the idea of GM potatoes and will campaign against their use in Zambia through the organic movement.

Please don't test GM food on people by allowing this to be distributedIt is simple: STOP ALTERING THE NATURAL (FOR CENTURIES) FOOD. N0! Spunta potato. or any other genetically modified so-called food. i am personally very concerned at this development as i believe that it is a retrograde step for Africa in economic and food safety terms - Gina CookeNo benifit to consumer, health risks, costs to small scale farmers by dependance on hi tech capital intensive technology. It is just another attempt by corporate multi nationals to put profit before humanity.

Genetically modified products should be stopped everywhere in the world whether it is food, medicines or anything else before it is too late

This can't be any better than BT Cotton that is killing Asian economy.Friends of the Earth, Saffron, Walden, UK. The potatoes will contain a variable amount of the pesticide and will be eaten in variable quantities by adults and children. This could be dangerous to health - there is no way that the dose consumed can be monitored, it could be over the safe level - though no safe level for actual human consumption has yet been established.

To reject the entry of GM Potatoesinto India.

Although based in the UK, I wish to put my signature on this petition because I feel that keeping GM potatoes and other crops out of all countries is a global concern.

Pollen will spread across the world - and farmers will be harassed when their fields are wind pollinated - just as Monsanto is doing with Round-Up Ready and seed patenting. Do not contribute to the replacement of natural self-germinating food crops from the earth.

Non GM potatoes are full of health-giving properties. The GM process interferes with cellular DNA and new unforseen toxins can be produced as a result of this. The GM potatoes could be toxic or allergenic or even carcinogenic as aresult. No thanks!!My family, friends and I will not eat GM foods. Please promote organic potato farming - organic potatoes taste, look and nourish so much better!!!

GE crops are unknown, and more importantly reduce biodiversity. Crops should be controlled by people and not multinationals.Although not South African, I am adamantly opposed to ALL genetically altered/genetically modified food items and will not eat them, buy them, or support them in any way.We the pro-nature and pro-people activists from Punjab state of India supports this petition.Umendra DuttKHETI VIRASAT MISSION -The Movement for Natural Farming in Punjab

This is a very unsafe proposal. My PhD is in ecology. GMO potatoes are untested and it is not right to subject consumers to the position of guinea pigs.

GE potatoes represent the ultimatein techno-Illogical insanity thatare only being pushed to benefit patent holder$ and accompanyinginterest$ while imperilling thehealth of your population and thebio-diversity of your nation andbeyond. GE pollution cannot berecalled and the evidence thatGE crops pose a danger are too overwelming to ignore. GE "food"represents the antithesis to sound, sustainable, ecologicallysane agriculture. If you do notknow the massive failure and threats that GE crops have posed the world over then you have boughtinto a dangerous paradigm pushedby the PR gurus of biotech, bankingon colonizing South Africa's rights to real seed, healthy food and equitable distribution. Anyway, you SPLICE it, GE potatoes willspell disaster for South Africa.

Please, please use your common sense, and your compassion. How can you consider making yourselves, your children, and your own people experiments. It is totally unnecessary, and the biotech companies just want your resources. Look at their record. There is plenty of science that is against such products, but the money and suppression of the research is in the hands of the multinationals.

Please, be sensible. I was born in Cape Town, and I love South Africa. Where has your wisdom gone?

I am appalled that this heinous creation is being forced upon the citizens. There is no such thing as local foods, any foods entering the food chain, will eventually have world wide distribution. Preventing this GMO potato being placed in the food supply protects two vital components of the nation; the citizens health with the impact to healthcare costs and the international food export market that has already rejected this GMO. It is vital that steps be taken to protect yourself and reject the GM potato.

Page 148: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

It seems that the agricultural-based countries would have more sense than to plant seeds that have been synthesized with ingredients that would not be found as part of a seed in nature.

To be sure, the only market for this product (food sourced from genetically modified seed) are the uninformed and ignorant.

And once the land has been planted with this seed, what is the outcome being distributed into the soil by the root system? Could it be that instead of replenishing nitrogen into the soil, a GM lebume plant is doing something destructive to the soil base?

Who knows what the GM potatoe will do to the soil base?

If I were shopping for a farm, the ground that had ever even once sprouted GM plants would be worthless to me, as a buyer.

I would hope that all of Africa would prohibit this technology of GM seeds, and once the rest of the world has polluted their soil base, then African soil would still be pure and valuable. (I would would hope that all the world would want to retain such purity of their soil, but it seems that is not Famine rife in Africa; more crop /drop.Wise up, you affluent, selfish idiotic loud mouths, Bloated in your Ivory towers, consider your less affluent fellow man! GM Crops essential for raising living standards, world wide. GM the technologogy, for better , more nutritious & productive cops potential to provide essential vitamins & proteins Any food fostered on the publicfirst should be proven safe, bothfor consumption and also the area in which it is grown.I support the African Centre for Biosafety. We have been living here on the earth togethr with all other living things for a long long time. GMOs could detroy our relationship. No to GM potatoes.

There's no way we are going to allow our beloved state to be a dust bin!

There is no reason for consumers to take the risk of eating a novel food for the sake of storage requirements for farmers.

GMO's are great for the farmers - higher yields and less labor to raise crops plus the GMO manfacturers like Monsanto eliminate the old seed potatoes by cross polinating and rendering the next generation unable to reproduce. This is why hundreds of farmers in India have committed suicide.I say eradicate all GMO seeds.

Our farming family strongly supports this petition, which rejects GM potatoes. There is no consumer demand of confidence in GE potatoes (or other crops) and there are inherent environmental and public health risks to these crops. NZ has banned GE crops and trees- stop GM potatoes in Africa1

say no to all GE foods

GM plants and creatures are a crime against food souvereignity, against the creatures and their evolutionary heritage, against all principles which civil societies have developed over hundreds of years to find a basis for legal issues. We must stand up against the criminal take over and poisoning of our land, food, water and all creatures. <<<gm constructs are the most lethal and irreversible biological weapons whcih could be released. Never let the food industry plant a singla plant or sow a single seed! We are all askedto stop this madness andworldwide attempt to poison our livelihoods.

Let us see to the originators who claim to invent plants which is total nonsense at any rate that they receive lifelong sentences for attempting our lives!

Thank you!

Sabine for my children and myself

Unfortunately South Africa already grows genetically modified foods commercially. Changing the DNA characteristics, is going to have an effect on ecosystems, including humans. Biotechnology companies are interested only in money and power and will persuade us that GMO is needed. Unfortunately we will all reap what we have sown. The whole planet will suffer.

Clearly here is yet again is another example of government industry collusion to introduce untested products for consumption. When problems arise they are deflected on the consumer to prove harm, instead of the rightful onus on industry to prove safety of their products. This not so clever tactic has essentially defrocked the consumer. Who essentially is defenceless and forced to become the industry guinea pig as little remedial or future preventative action can be made.Surely putting their own families at risk is the height of greed and stupidity! Are the regulators so stupid not to see this? Apparently not....Please listen!

anything that has an antibiotic added to it should NOT be a food!

A moratorium on this potato's development and release must ensue until proven safe.

I oppose the marketing and growing of GMO potatoes and will not buy and GMO productsDefinitely against GM ProductsProtect Africa and give it a healthy futureBy allowing this and other GM food you are going beyond the point of no return. No GM potatoes for South Africa

There are countless other sustainable, ecological and economical ways to improve potato production. GMO's pose far too many risks to human and environmental health, to crop biodiversity and to the economic health of family farmers. Please see the book Genetic Roulette by Jeffrey M. Smith; there are numerous risks noted regarding GM potatoes. Also, USAID dollars should go toward projects that enhance farmers' ability to be more independent -- not forever dependent upon multinational seed and agrochemical companies. Aid that considers the market needs of corporations above the needs of real farmers is not truly humanitarian aid; it is a corporate welfare project.

Don´t sell your people!

European consumers reject GMO food. GMO Potatoes are a risk for our health and are likely to contaminate GE-free Potatoes.

We do not need any more problems in our world do to unsafe products.I firmly believe that no GMO food should ever be fed to humans or animals, but if they are going to be put on the market- then they should be labeled as such. We have the rught to choose the foods we buy, & not labeling these products is deceptive marketing, & does not hold accountable the companies that manufacture these genes for the helath problems, & the damage to the environment they cause. I, nor my large family will not purchase any food that contains GMO ingredients, & no factory farmed meat, dairy, poultry, or farm raised fish that where they are fed hormones, antibiotics & treated so inhumanely. We buy certified organic foods, produce from local farm markets & CSAs, & from companies/stores that have pledged to not use GMOs in their products. We have a list, & circulate it among our friends & families to help insure that we can have good healthy unadulterated food.

It is unconscionable to force GM Potatos that contains an antibiotic that is not given to pregnant women because of the great risk of birth defects- onto another country- that is

as you sow so shall you reap. Listen to the consumers, the knowledgeable scientists...not the paid mouthpieces and ;isten to the Prince of Wales. Your country is being used to bring wealth to those exploiting your lack of knowledge on the dangers of GM foods.

As an Environmentalists I would like to suggest to the SA government that geneticv modified food is good for a moment but it will bring down your economy on medical costs of disease that you won't understand that will costs epidemiologist a lot of resources therefore prevention is better than cure. We are hungry as Africans but we are not ready to take slow poison into our bodies. As leaders your are our mouth piece don't use economic reasoning without humanity.

Bring the earth back to balance instead of creating an imbalance with more toxins. Stop GM foods. The widespread distribution of antibiotics is already a disaster in terms of fostering drug-resistant bacteria---why knowingly exacerbate the problem?

Thanks for this important information and opportunity to react. I wished we could stop GM worldwide."Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights". We have the right to healthy food that might actually provide sustenance for us. What good (nutrition) is food, if the food itself can't sustain it's own seeds (seedless)? These "nutty professors" and their ever "growing" weird science, all have access to healthier foods than we do. The Monsanto's et al., have special organic fields in which they grow food for themselves, under controlled organic conditions, and which they feed to their families and, their friends in high places, like Brian Mulroney. These people are not eating the same foods that they want us to eat, believe me, but more importantly, you need to question, why?

Afriac doesn't need GM potato. African farmers can feed africans without GMOs. Please, stop arming smallscale farmers in South Africa

Genetically modified foods have not proven profitable for anyone but the patent holders of the GM food stock. As more and more research is done, evidence is emerging showing the detrimental health effects of these foods. Further they have the insidious effect of polluting entire regions due to the nature of pollen being carried by wind and animals. The consumer market is distrustful, as they should be. Corporate interests have never been a friend of the consumer. The idea of being able to patent food, to control the seed that the farmers wish to plant, and the enforce their purchase of such seed is antithetical to all health, human rights and common sense in the environment.

Technology has been very seductive for many arenas. But history has shown us that the attempt to manipulate nature and to duplicate it is never beneficial for humankind.

Do not allow these new GM potatoes to be planted and infest our food chain.

As a consumer, I do not want to eat GM potatoes! Please do not grow them. These GM potatoes would be poisonous to people if allowed in the diet. They are not fit for human consumption.

Keep GMOs out of our food worldwide!

It is imperative we protect the worlds biodiversity and not allow gmo to contaminate our soils.

Please stop the proliferation of the dangerous crops. We are what we eat, and as a consumer with extreme allergies that are directly attributed to the quality of the food I consume, I am very concern about any alternation to the natural genetic makeup of my food. The vast majority of people in the UK do not want to eat genetically modified food. Countries that are trying to export GM food will find it difficult to find a market here.gmo is a very horrible intervention in the nature with unknown results for all organisms all over the earth. stop with the all the GM...potatoes too...food should be nutrition, not toxic...and there is too much evidence of damageto health and the transfer of viral DNA intohuman gut flora...and no protection from contamiation of other related plants...although not immediately obvious GMcrops and foods are debilitating life and thisplanet...and this is hard science not conjecture.

So stop GM potatoes (and we need to stop all other already on the market also.)

I urge resistance growing & marketing genetically modified potatoesReleasing such things into the environment affects the whole world and is extremetly irresponsible. The history of science is full of examples of supposed breakthroughs only to later find this was not the case. In the case of GM foods as the technology is on the level of the DNA if anything goes wrong then the consequences are much greater.

These GM potatoes, along with ALL THE REST of the GM crops are being forced all over the world by big corporations/Monsanto, and are totally unproven to be healthy.

September 7 2008

To the members of the South African Government,

On the issue of genetically modified potatoes being developed and/or sold in South Africa.

In 2002 I read Barbara Kingsolver’s Essay ‘A Fist in the Eye of God’ which is contained in her book ‘Small Wonder’. The essay discusses what genetic modification seeds means in regards to the adaptability of plants and their ecosystems. From that time I’ve read a great deal on the subject. When I read a media article, I even try to track down at least the abstract of the research articles mentioned. I believe I’ve done my homework on the topic of genetic modification of plants.

I believe absolutely that there are too many problems we do not know about yet, and too many problems we do know about so far, to allow further incursions of genetically modified crops onto the soil and into people’s and animals’ bodies.

Please do not allow genetically modified potatoes to be field-tested further or allowed for sale and planting in South Africa.

I wish for your country what I wish for any other country: a safe agriculture system, with more people involved in farming who own their own land and labour instead of being a small cog in a multi-national agribusiness. Regions need to be able to feed the

South Africans should know that in Europe these products are banned. People who know about them do not want them and do not trust them.

Keep up the strong oppostion towards all GM cropsFriends of the Earth, Worcester, UK

Please consider Europes logical reluctance to embrace GM technology. Please consider those places in the world that have sufferred greatly due to the growing of GM.Please don't unleash this unproven technology upon Nature and the vulnerable people of South Africa. How dare you and your cohorts take advantage of an ill-informed public and take away our freedom to know and seek information about the foods we eat and our freedom of choice!! All GM foods are responsible for at least two things which when lost will not be able to be recaptured: First--increasing the threat of illness and death in the world's populations, known as selective genocide; and Second--the radical decrease in the bee population, world-wide. SHAME on you and your co-conspirators!!! ~~ Ruth E. Ulvog, Minnesota, USA.

Stop GMO potatoes and find a more sustainable solution please!

leave nature the way it works.

We visited your countiry and its wildlife and I wouldnt understand you would run the risk of contamination of your unsupassable wilderness.

Be smart produce GM free, GM might seem the way to go with al its promisses but reallity shows there are more cons than pro's on GM crops. If someone has to change its us humans and not the crops!

We only have one earth.

GMO foods are not solution to our food requirementsPotatoes are a basic crop the world over. There is no logic, no justification for unleashing these GM potatoes on families which could otherwise grow their healthy crops for their family. Please do not approve this applicaiton. We want safety and health above all, not some experimental solution. You better keep the Funny stuff out of food it was Never meant to have in it. Harming the population is Criminal!

This will be a health hazard for many if this potatoe is allowed to be G Altered. Stop this practice now. Plus very expensive for the farmer..

grow your own food!! Organise seed exchange markets! And never loose your belief, you can change so much!

GMOs are not in any way a solution to hunger or to food safety or to human rights or to biodiversity. Stop GMOs, stop GMO potatoes! No GM food in Africa and elsewhere!

There are so many reasons to sign this petition, but the main one has to be maintaining the safety of the African people. Why allow them to be threatened by GM when there is absolutely no reason for it. GM foods are completely unnecessary, as there are other natural ways of modifying foods - should this be essential - and GMOs are created solely with profits for the company in mind. So far none of these foods have lived up to the Company hype. Quite the opposite, in fact. Many negative things are now coming to light about them, with the increasing research being conducted by scientists who are completely independent - having no vested interest.

GMO i not for the people but for the firms to make money and control!Center for Food Safety. please stop GM potatoes from being approved in South Africa! This will only lead to lessened independence of local farmers and domination of multinational agribusiness.

Are we not already eating enough junk and altered food? Cancer is high, we need not say more and weight issues are causing more and more death every day. Why do we have to add to it so that someone else can make money. Greed seems to be the word of the centry and we all fall for it left right and center. Lets put a stop to someone else dictating to us and take control of our own health.

GM foods have systematically destroyed small and local growers throughout the world. With the current food shortages, we need more small growers and less dependence on corporations, whose primary concern is not for the well-being of community but for profit. GM food does not yield more crop, neither are it's "health benefits" successfully proven. In fact GM foods have caused more harm than good.

From a biological/organic farming and general health we need to inform others of the availability of alternative products and that is where I am teaching farmers about the true organic approach.

Toatlly against itNoneI definately do not want any genetically modified potatoes or any other GM foods. No No No !!come on South Africa, this is absurd. why are all other African countries so far ahead of us on banning GM?

Mother nature is a perfect system of cycles, lets leave it like that.

This potato, like so many other processesed foods contains harmfull substances to the human body. The people pushing these poisonous products are aware of the effects they can have on the fragile human electro chemical system. It should be classed as genocide but because their are some people making huge amounts of money off this, the truth is hidden and lies are told so they can fill their pockets. It would be interesting to see if they themselves would like to be fed a small dose of cyanide every day until their bodies slowly begin to fail and death is premature.I want healthy food thank you.NO POISON POTATOES!!!

I totally reject GM Potatoes and any other GM food crops. How will insects pollinating flowers be affected? Is the pollen sterile?Keep our food safe.Leave the natural potatoes alone and stop meddling with the natural order of things.Your materialistic greed is killing our world !

This is a very dangerous situation for South Africa. As usual the benefits will go to a multinational rather than South Africans.opposeOnce potatoes are bagged, we no longer have the right to choose whether we wish to eat GM potatoes as we cannot tell the difference between them and the usual cultivars. I beg you to refuse planting and distribution rights in the whole of SA. Not enough research has been carried out to see what whill happen centuries down the line. You are 'playing God' by modifying this essential, basic foodstuff of our province. Please stop the madness!!We Just cannot be used as a testing ground.

I believe that south africa has the opportunity to NOT follow suit of globalising our food systems. We could be leaders of the developing worlds. engaging in GM food production is a leathal way of a Nation giving up its basic human rights of nutritional diets.Ban GMOs entirely.

Definitely support this movement againt any form of genetic modification of foodstuffs. Thanks for giving us a voice.

I am very against this -no wonder I am growing my own vegetables and potatoes!I am strongly opposed to making Gm potatoes commercially available in SA both from a personal health risk factor and also because of the implications for our local farmers

No Way!! NO to GM Potatoes

What's wrong with the potato that our interaction with nature has given us? Not profitable enough? I'm ready to make this stop. Totally in support for this cause. It's been too long that retailers have been putting these things on our shelves. Action is important.what can i say, there is a war going on and our plates are the battle field, so the best we can do is to fight the good fight of keeping the culprits 'monsanto et al' out of our indipendent countries amd also get our governments to see the common sense of Natural untempered with food, what we Rasta's call Ital, which is so vital. One Love, let the Hungry be fed...

It is pathetic that our brothers and sisters are being exploitedI fully endorse this campaign against unnnatural food production.I want the right to KNOW what I am eatingi believe that the seed needs to naturally reproduce after its own kind and am against the dependency that G.M. products creates...robin.

don't want GM in my foodDO NOT release the GM potatoe commercially

For the same reasons as expressed hear - health and environmental concerns. We demand a moratorium on GM crops until it is scientifically proven that it doesn't pose risk to human and environmental health.

we do not need GM ptatoes on our tables the health risks are too great. Consumers need to be consulted first when it involves health and nutrition issuesNo to GM foods NO!!! Phansi nge GM Phansi!!!I agree that there are too many variables and that GM vegetables will only cause bad broblems.

Ban all GM crops and promote sustainable organic agriculture.more large-scale, fossil-fuel based mono-cropping farms won't feed the world.

I don't want anything to eat genetically engineeredWe at Emerald Acres are organic farmers, and definately do not want to eat the GMO Potatoes.

I fully support this petition. I implore the government to NOT accept GM potatoes or any other GM foodstuffs for this matter.

I do not want to eat genetically modified potatoes, especially if I do so without my consent and informed knowledge!! Potatoes happen to be one of my favourite vegetables but if GM potatoes become the only option available in South Africa, I will no longer buy or eat them. I strongly oppose the use of GM agricultural produce in South Africa.

Genetic diversity is the most important thing for a future for the human raceI am against any GM products to be sold in South Africa, as I understand these could be harmfull to your body.

GM technology benefits agribusiness. I dont want to eat GM potatoes or have this part of an unsustainable farming system foisted on SA.As a citizen of this nation I hereby exercise my constitutional rights to a healthy environment and healthy food, the right of informed choice and consent and participation in decision-making processes relating to this contentious issue, the right to information and above all my right to BODILY INTEGRITY, which this government has violated for the last 12 years by sacrificing the nation's health for corporate greed. A product laced with CaMV, kanamycin, glyphosate is not fit for human or animal consumption and force-feeding South Africans with this toxic concoction, especially in the absence of mandatory labelling of GMOs, constitutes criminal negligence.

Unleashing this toxic potato into the environment and for human consumption in the absence of any human safety study whatsoever constitutes yet another blatant and downright criminal violation of my right to bodily integrity enshrined in our constitution. Every single cell of this toxic concoction contains the cauliflower mosaic virus, closely related to the Hepatitis B and HIV virus, and the antibiotic kanamycin which is crucial in the fight against tuberculosis, and according to the product information sheet should never be given to pregnant women and is also excreted in breast milk. Surely, the concocters of this toxic product cannot be unaware of the latter and their false safety claim not only constitutes criminal negligence but can also be construed as intent to do grievous bodily harm given the fact that like all other GM products already force-fed to the nation without the latter's knowledge and above all CONSENT, this immensely toxic potato poses an immense risk to human health, particularly to immunocompromised people, due to its ability to create superbugs and multi-drug resistant diseases.

I am worried about the unknown effects of GM crops and I am not happy to be cooking GM potatoes for my pregnant wife and 3 year old son...IT UPSETS ME GREATLY!!!

Who has been paid off this time? You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see the folly in GM!

STOP GMOThe public should have the right to decide whether or not we trust GM foods. An overwhelming number of people I have spoken to believe that GM foods are simply not safe. The people shoving these GM foods down our throats are enjoying organic foods, and food untainted by biologists.I do not beleive that GMOs should be allowed. No one knows the long term consequences of them on humans, and they disrupt biodiversity. Leave our food alone!

Please do not agree to this GM potato being marketed commercially. It will not servethe best interests of this country.

Keep them out of South AfricaI am totally opposed to the growing and marketing of GM potatoes in this country and I will not buy them.

We will campaign and inform the public to boycott GMO'S and potatoesGMO, a very short sighted option. You are what you eat! Please do not grow GM food... our health should be our priority, not business... let South Africa be an example of a healthy nation who cares about the future of our children....

You cannot patent a Gene. Its a basic infringement on human rights.

I am utterly opposed to the marketing of GMO potatoes and the introduction of yet another staple food source in our country that is contaminated by transgenic material. we have great pure food here, and don't need bad food.

you are what you eat

Page 164: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

Down with GM 'frankinstein' potatoes.Africa will NOT allow itself to be an easy market...stop using and abusing this planet and people.

All aspects of this initiative are very concerning, considering the blatant disregard of human rights enshrined in the SA Constitution.

It is inconceiveable that our government is knowingly allowing the growing of Gm potatoes. If American consumers have rejected GM Potatoes, then why should we not follow suit.

Don't fiddle with our food and especially not the humble potatoe. We like it as it is!we need to be looking for sustainable solutions for poverty alleviation. GM foods take the power of replanting our own food.

I cannot believe that ARC could be so short sighted! This attitude is indicative of limited awareness and intelligence about real solutions to real problems. Think thalidimyde, DDT etcNo GM Mazambane PLEASE !!!!!!!The well-being of our people is more important than economic gains for the few through this sysytem.Stop GMO PotatoesStrongly against GM products. I believe that there is potenial to produce all SA food need within this country and feed others outside this country.

GM Potatoes must undergo a long termdouble blind trial to assess its true effects before being marketed, similar to clinical drug trialsnatural food pleaseI am a strict vegetarian and love potatoes and for that matter all vegetables, wishing to enjoy these as perfectly designed by the Good God. It is my basic human right to enjoy potatoes as the Creator saw fit to provide these for human consumption. I also stand up for current young and future generations of our land, not yet able to speak for themselves.

Down with GM potatoes!!! It's the staple diet of most indigent households. We need to stop using the poor as lab rats to fill the coffer of greedy, ruthless companies and governments. What is wrong with organic, natural god given produce? Informed is aware! Allow us to decide if we wnat to buy GM food by legislating that all GM foodstuff should be labeled.I would eat nothing GM if it were marked properly. I would pay more!

Ban all GM food crops!!!

I will not buy or eat altered foods!

i think that vegetables, like other foods should be natural, the way god intended.

a big NO to GM foodsunder no circnstance should gm potatoes or any other gm food be allowed in south africa or any part of the worldI'm tired of having to buy vegetables whose GM status I do not know and have no way of finding out. I feel that my rights as a consumer are being infringed. My original University training was in Agriculture, and I am not in any way against farmers' interests.

DO NOT release GM potatoes at all.We should all work together to protect the integrity of life on the planet. Ban all GM food crops!!!stop it!!We must not allow anything genetically modified to filter into our lives.....

Please do not allow GM potatoes to be grown or sold in South Africa.GM is perhaps the most significant threat to food security, because it causes dependency of the farmers to the multinationals. A big no no to these potatoes, please read Stuffed and StarvedWESSA KZN Region I fully support this petition. I should like to be added to the list of signatories opposing the introduction of GM potatoes into South Africa. Thanks for doing all this:

I will not buy GMO foodsHumanity's future depends on us not accepting GM foods!!!

Concerned about fact that GM potatoes are inappropriate for small scale farmers.Very concerned about health issues.

No GM Potatoes for US!!! Please NO GM Potatoes or any other GM vegetables etc.!!! NO.NO TO GENETICALLY MODIFIED POTATOES.We want real foodWhy would we buy something that is a potential danger to our health and is bad for the local farmers.

Please take this seriously!GM food are really slowly poisoning our health

I hope it will be stopped

A stop must be put to GM vegetables now.

An appropriate and fully participatory EIA is required before any authorisation can be considered.Rejection of GM Potatoes by African Consumers and Importers.STOP this NOW.We have a right to eat natural food the way God created it for us!!!gm not acceptableThe dangers in GM foods are not acceptablegm potatoes should not be allowed in south africa

Africa does not need to be colonized by GM crops, greedy agribusiness and multinationals have no place in a sustainable farming future.

May truth prevail and the integrity of our food. I shall definitely not buy or support or eat GM Potatoes and if such products are supported in this country, believe me the pressure will grow and count me in as one who will support any endeavour to support Mother Nature in her perfection and not as per Human Intervention in the name of profit.I am strongly opposed to the commercialisation of the GM potatoes

People have been eating natural food since man's origin - why change that to the benfit of the very society that enslaved and raped Africa? When will money stop talking in Africa? When will it's people be heard?

No to GMNo GM

GM foods is simply not in my future reality.Try as you like, GM projects will fail. This is a promise.

Don't do this!!!

I want to protect my right to choose my and my families food. I am seriously allergic to many new substances and must know where my food comes from to protect myself. Please help me protect my right to know.I strongly disagree to the marketing and growing of GMO potatoes

The best way to combat thhis GE is to tell people that they are being poisoned & that GE is threat to our food security & the livelyhood of farmers

The must be a serious reason for the countries that rejected theses potatoes.I also reject this potatoes.not good for health and many people will suffer,we strongly demand that the council should not allow theses products in our country

This is not the way forward for African food security - the seed will never be ours.

Sustaining the Wild Coast (SWC) Comment: GM potatoes should not be introduced onto the market until SA has initiated GM labelling regulations.

bad enough with the moth genes now they will try something else to cull the people faster?the world has managed for thousands of years without the help of genetically modified foods! It is the consumer that should have the say in how their food is grown and what is used to make it grow, not the grower, the seller and definitely not the seed companies! I support the pertition in full

Let's always uphold the spirit of the Freedom Charter and always hold the well-being of the people and natural resources of our country as our first priority

I do not believe that GM food crops should be introduced into the public domain until sufficient information is at hand to determine the long-term impact of these produdcts. I also implicity believe that as individuals we should have the right to reject these products, should we wish to do so. And for that to happen, we need adequate labelling, so that we are aware of what we are purchasing.

I will choose what I want to eat!!!Keep up the good work Urban!

GM is an unacceptable risk considering the lack of adequate longitudinal studies. Please have a look at my website www.mrrecycle.co.za as you will see I use recyclable materials to create jobs for commercially unemployable people. Maybe you wish to become involved?

I have just watched an extra-ordinary DVD on bio-dynamic farming in India and the huge desge problems they are having as a result of chemicals in the soil, loss of dyversity of plent species and the effects on health o fthe population. There is no place for GM foods in SA.

GM sucks man

As a commercial pilot I practised the rule "when in doubt dont!" The same caution should be followed with GM crop experimeants - there is sufficient evidence to stop allowing unscrupulous first world corporates from using Africa and her people without their understanding, to suffer the consequences of this unethical experiment.

Nature has been perfectly capable of supplying us with the beneficial qualities of natural potatoes since they were discovered as a foodstuff (and probably long before as well) - why must I now feed my children with "bio-engineered" produce? There is nothing "BIO" about genetically modifying anything! Biology can take care of its own!!! There is no way I will purchase gm potatoes; I would rather not purchase potatoes if the only ones available are GM. And because of GM soya in various sweets produced locally, I now make my own. If the larger industrial nations are not interested in this product, why are we, as Africans, expected to take the fall and pay for the waste of good money which has gone into researching something that no-one wants?

If the government wants to take health hazards to a higher level, this would be the surest way to achieve that.

These genetically enhanced potatoes which share not a canny trait with those which aren't genetically grown can and will be detrimental to our human bodies...The research is out there and it has been proven many a time that this is not the only route to go by.

Our Health comes first and for that there is no sacrifice.

Phillip Gqitiyeza

See all the Health and Commercial hazards of these impositions, as well as the American global take-over of our economic food growing industry. Please someone have the guts to give the finger to this dangerous section of power grabbers. No to GMAs a movement with strong membership in many different African countries we strongly object to the introduction of GM potatoes into South Africa and then into the rest of Africa. Agribusiness has intensified not solved the problem of hunger in Africa and we believe it is unethical to impose a technology on Africa which will reduce the capacity of local farmers to ensure local food self-sufficiency.  Add my signature to the petition and the name of The Grail.  Add my signature to the petition and the name of The Grail. I do not want to eat potatoes that have been refused by US and EU regulators. I want the antibiotic Kanamycin to work for South Africans when it is needed. We need to engage in farming which does not bind us to US corporations via Biotechnology, and we need to eat food which brings health and strength to our bodies. Do not permit these potatoes to become comerciallyt available.

I do NOT want GM potatoes in this country. I will not eat them. I don't think enough long-term tests have been done on human health. I also am against the food security and sovereignty issues caused by the suicide genes in GM.

As organic farmer I feel the poor regulation and restriction of GM crops is a threat to my livelyhood and an infringement on my right to choice for my business and person.

no to GM potatoes

I do not want to eat any food that has been modified in any way and check every food label as it is - how will we know if we are being given rubbish to eat in the form of a potato - not good enough.... Not fit for African tummys either!

Biowatch South Africa

Please keep our food free of GM additives!!

Please keep GMO potatoes off the shelves. Until the long-term safety of GM potatoes is established, it is unacceptable that it be commercialised. How do I tell a GM potato from any other? This is enough to stop eating them altogether. There should at least be labelling to indicate non-GM potatoes.I am opposed to GM Potatoes being grown and or sold in South-Africa

I am organic farmer keep crap out of the systemLet nature be nature, a divine gift to humankind and the planet, without men's interference, for profit.

I hope there will be other action apart form jsut signing a petition. People need to really wake up and stop this nonsense of relegating responsibility to a handful few regarding important decision making such as this - ones basic food system, simple staple diet, good old potatoes are being snatched away.Lets stp these Biotech companies from taking control of the food chain now.Unfortunately the government keeps on failing us, due to the revolving door that exists in the GMO industry.I have the right to choose what I eat and I say no to GMO potatoes

If I hear that there are GM potatoes in SA, my family will stop buying potatoes altogether. We already avoid anything with soy and maize, just in case, and buy only rGBH-free milkNO to GM potatoes and any other GM vegetables or fruit........this is not an option for our country!

Page 170: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

There is absolutely no reason why we can't grow good healthy organic potatoes. Pesticides and GM products are just a short cut to big profits for a few at the expense of the public at large. THERE IS NO EXCUSE!

This really should NOT be taken lightly.I think that it should not be allowed and that we SHOULD be given the CHOICE as to whether or not we want to consume GM products.

No to GM Potatoes! There is not enough known about GM foods except that they tend to hijack what is good and natural and earthy all for money and not for anyone's health or welfare, let alone that of the Environment which is in dire Straits right now!!! Stop GM potatoes now!

No ways do I nor my family want to eat GM potatoes or crops at all, ever!No GM Food!!!!

It is so shortsighted to import these very dangerous plants! Because they do not have the capability anymore to produce seeds, our country will be made completely dependant on America... Why do we not stop it altogether as mankind????

strongly object to ANY GMO product

I strongly object to GM potatoes being made commercially available in South Africa.

I say NO!!!I dont want my child to grow up future health problems.

It's a great shame that humanity has strayed so far from natural living.Label GM potatoes - or no gm potatoes at all.Absolutely NO to GM potatoes - I will not purchase any GM product.

why do what no one else is prepared to take a chance on? I'll stop eating potatoes if they are likely to be GM.

No to GM Potatoes

when are these people EVER going to realize that to mess with the basic food stuff is to mess with Nature and that means HUMAN NATURE TOO !!!Unnatural GM foods? no thanks

I strongly oppose the idea of growing GM Potatoes

Which idiot thinks up this stuff? I wonder if they will be eating those potatoes.Just because you can do something( like genetically engineer vegetables), doesn't mean it's a good idea.Potato farming is destructive enough without imported rubbish that yanks won't eat flooding our markets.

NoGM crop are not tested. There are no studies we have been shown which show that they are not harmful.

potatoes have been a top staple food item for centuries & have successfully raised the whole of Ireland for generations WITHOUT GM intervention, just say NO I say !!!No comment

The news of the development of this product and proposed application should be made public news via media so that the public at large are able to have a collective say in what they choose to consume. If I hadnt been on the Urban Sprout mailing list, I would probably have never heard of this application or been able to oppose it. Thank you Urban Sprout!

please stop poisoning people

please do NOT introduce GM foods of any kind to our country!

I wholeheartedly support this petition for all the reasons stated. I am vehemently opposed to any GM foods and I honestly believe there are viable and feasible alternatives that address all the aruguements in favour of GM foods, potatoes included.Seriously...please no GM potaotes. I want potatoes natural as nature intended and without a scientists taint.

No to GM!This is crazy! I am growing my own potatoes if this is what is going to happen. No GM foods please. I want normal food.

No to GM!

I object to having GM foods forcedupon me and my family.I do not wish to be someone else's guineapig

This is the nutritional equivalent of when GM started adding lead to fuel - knowing full well with in a short space of time that it was toxic - look at the mess we're sitting with now as a result.

No to GM

I would never buy GM potatoes as the health and safety risks have never been determined.

No thanks to any Gm food, especially not our beloved potato.Horrifying

Already I struggle to make some sprouts because the GM seeds are sterile and do not sprout. We must stop messing with natureif anyone could see the damage to the small farmer in America as regards GM food, particularly as regards Monsanto, no african politician in Africa would do this to HIS people. it will not feed the people, but it will make America richer, and Africa poorer. the small local farmer will not be able to operate without paying huge royalties to the GM companies. Ignorance is not bliss, it is death.

I will not buy GM potatoes or any other produce

We cannot improve on Nature, it has been proved time & again. Please leave Potatoes as Nature intended, no GM!I just want to know where are the labels? GM = no choice. Keep Africa free from GM imperialism. No to these GM potatoes

Please dont be fooled by the people who will make money out of this. The consequences will be disasterous for your bank balances in the med/long term, your reputation and your conscience, if you have one, which you do!Appreciating your inherent goodness,:)c

Thank you for doing this on our behalf!!!!

I am deeply concerned that these potatoes, and other similar crops, will be headed fo our fields, and for our shelves and at very least would expect this risky GM produce to be labelled.

The world should know better.

Short term GM practice equals long term damage to the environment.

I am opposed to all GM food and positively support organic and biodynamic food farming.

Say NO to GM PotatoesThe is NO evidence that GM food is safe!!!!

South African consumers have been left uninformed about the decisions by Government over the last decade concerning the production of GM foods. Consumers need to be consulted on a wide scale before any more GM foods are introduced in this country. I refer in particular to the possible introduction of GM potatoes. Long-term safety research on GM foods (not years - but decades) is essential to protect South African consumers from potential disastrous or even deadly future health risks.

Meg Cowper-LewisSuidpunt Environmental AllianceBox 56Cape AgulhasSupporter base: 165 concerned citizens

THERE IS NO CONSUMER CONFIDENCE IN THE LONG TERM SAFETY OF THESE POTATOES AND ARE OF NO BENEFIT TO THE CONSUMER. I DON'T WANT TO EAT A POTATOE THAT HAS BEEN INJECTED WITH ALL KINDS OF CHEMICALS

GM crops are the greatest threat to food security wordwide

Long term effect of these foods are not tested. I do not want to eat something that is technically the same as a potato. We all have a right to free choice - I choose NO GM POTATOES! We don't fully understand the health and ecological implications of GM foods yet. If they use the Earth to conduct their experiments (because really, this is just another step in their experiments for GM produce), by the time we fully understand it will be too late. BRILLIANT cause...thank you!We must farm sustainably and in partnership with nature. We will not tolerate GM food, particularly when it is not labelled so we have no choice.

Page 174: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

no way!!

Stop putting GM crops out there that have not been truthfully, honestly and scientifically tested! We DO NOT KNOW the true impacts of GE intereventions, please stop pretending that you do and don't succumb to the capaitalist money driven "help" being offered. Big agri business is not offering GM poatoes for the good of Africans! They are motivated by profit to keep Africa poor! Be strong Africa, keep GM out of our continent!

I fully support the campaighn against GM crops entering our food system. They should reserve that for BIO FUELS only.

no question that any GM potatoes should be allowed. We do not need chemicals in our food.

...Totally reject this!!very shortsited

Please stop the GM insanity

How will we know if we are eating GM patatoes. Pataoes are used so widely especially in fast food business and resturants. I am totally against this.Sorry, but I have given up trying to understand how our government thinks and acts. One always reads and hears about - we have to look after our brothers and sisters - but very little if any at all is really done. They should put their words into actions and important actions in regards to GM would be to a)enforce labelling the way the EU countries do it - can't be too difficult, b) control 100% GM trials if any at all, c) protect the people of this country from the dangers of GM produce, d) protect our biodiversity and e) develop a better conscience for the people. Maybe the pressure coming from the EU etc. by not being able to export GM containing commodities will help .

It is totally irresponsible to allow such a GM potato and it is an affront against the consumer. Some officials in the ARC are still so backward that one can only wonder where our agriculture under the coming conditions through the climate change will go. European countries are fighting off the attempts of companies wanting to bring GM products on the market. Does SA want to loose its export market? This country does not even require the proper labeling of products in the shelves which contain GM by-products or are totally GM grown. Take e.g. the Canola, Maize and Sunflower Oils - it seems that most of them come from GM grain - and that I don't want, I don't even have the choice. Do they want to kill our biodiv ersity? Stop this insane potatoe GM business. I refuse to get forced and "forcefed" into this by USAID. I believe more and more in local self relience agricultural schemes to promote sustainability and human/nature wellbeing. I do not want my food supply to be controlled by a handful of scrupelous corporations and I will fight the GMO issue as much as I can....

In accordance with the observance of the precautionary principle the Wildlife and Environment Society of S.A. calls for a moratorium on the planting of all genetically engineered crops and on the release of all genetically engineered oganisms (GEO's) into the environment.

Page 175: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

do not support any use oif GM crops or products and GMOsGM foods pose a threat to our food safety and ability to access food. Patented foods threaten our right to food (constitution sec 27), and impose great risks for farmers who choose non-GM crops.

I TOTALLY REJECT ANY FORM OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODSPlease don't!!!absolutely opposed to the proposed general release of spunta 2, or any form of further testing or commercial or other release of GM potatoes in SA or Africa. Risks and disadvantages far outweigh any potential benefits

Stop GMI am totally opposed to the introduction of GM Potatoes for quite a number of reasons most of them explained in the accompanying petition. If these are introduced into SA - I will not buy potatoes unless I know they are from a 100% safe organic source. Please do not allow this application to go through. Once introduced into our SA environment - we will not be able to undo the damage. Many thanks in anticipation.

Say YES to Nature and NO to short sighted greed!

No to GM potatoes until all retailers have clear labelling of GM produce so that consumers can choose what we put into our bodies. No to science experiments with new technology on unconsenting citizens.I do not want to consume genetically grown potatoesI strongly oppose the introduction of any GM food being inroduced into this country we are already a dumping ground for Nuclear Waste and other types of items, so leave our food alone.

GM is imposing unwanted dangers on society. Stop modifying. What God created is good enough. Biodynamics and soil care is what we need.Good causeI am concerned about the lack of GM labelling in SA and support any intitative that resists GM practices in SA. No Commentstop gm foods!!!

I as a consumer will not be willing to eat this productFaith like patatoes!I am totally against the idea to have GM potatoes made commercially availableKeep it natural pleaseAre you really that stupid? Are they bribing you? Lets us eat plants the way they were made before man thought he was God

Very much against GM foods!!!

Trying to force GM potatoes on South Africa is further evidence of the greed of US business - at Africa' expense. GM is in direct contradiction of the need for biodiversity and the trend towards reverting to working with Nature (through organic cultivation)rather than against it. GM also defies all logic in terms of the long-term health of rural and urban populations. Every signature adds a little more pressure.

Page 176: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

Please....do NOT support GMOs!!

Thanks! Please! I dont want GM potatoes in South Africa full stop! And if their are ANY GM foods in our supermarkets they must be labled! Thank you.

I am strongly against the introduction of the GM Potatoe to my country. if it's not good for our health why must we have it.

Disgusting

Keep those potatoes away from us!!We do not want GM foods!

How much more is man going to interfere with what nature has produced.

ABSA bloody lutely. Pun intended. Lets check out the entire agricultural industry.Who gains while turning that (blind?) eye?I am into Ethical eco-agriculture and at the moment we are leasing vineyards in the winelands.www.barringtonsvines.com Thanks for all your efforts.Best regardsNeil Frye

This is dispicable and should not be allowed to happen. Please push ahead with this - a very important milestone to overcome!

I am against GM foods as a whole.Do not allow these potatoes into the trade.

Give it to them

until it is proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that G.M. products are totally safe I will not endorse the idea of tampering with the natural process of any vegetable growth and as a vegetarian I am particularly alarmed when food is tampered withI am vehemently opposed to GM foods and am now trying to grow my own potatoes!

do not grow or market GMO potatoes - I won't buy them! Its not acceptable to have GM potatoes in our country

Page 177: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I do not want any GM products to enter the food-chain. There are no long-term tests done to establish the effects on nature and human health. Should scientist continue to 'manufacture' and adjust seeds/grains/horticulture, at what point in time will parasites, fungi & bacteria become immune to them?

Inevitably, the food chain will go full circle and farmers will be planting products from over 50/100 years ago in order to try an beat the new 'pest'.

Leave NATURE as it is. It has done perfectly well without man's intervention (upto industrial farming methods), why mess with the best system now.

Plants are plants, animals are animals. STOP trying to play god with them to feed a growing population.

A very foolish idea to tamper with potatoes. I would never eat anything but organically grown potatoes!

SA must not carry out this experiment on its people and environment.

please stop these frankenstein food pushers before its too late and we have another thalidomide type disaster

STOP GM!!

Phansi GM crops phansi! We don't want it

.

South Africa is not a DUMPING GROUND for GM flops! Its bad enough that Africa gets sold on psychiatric and medical drug leftovers that have been banned in U.S and Europe ! What will the polititians do ? mmmmm , I wonder

I have a right to be informed about the origins of my food and reject ALL GM Potatoes outright!

Most people, even those uncertain of the implication of GM, will not knowingly buy GM potatoes. Stop duping the public! Give us labelling, better yet say no to GM like the rest of the civilized world.

Personally I try to avoid all GM food. Ethically and morally I feel we have the right of choice.GM Potatoes should not be grown.

Page 178: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

Stop wraking our natural environment. It is our children's children who will bear the consequences of your actions as we are suffering today from our grandparents choicesIt is better to grow naturally. Do not try to improve on the long and patient strategy which nature formulates over a given time span in order to adjust tohealthy properties and defense mechanisms. It is better to give nutrition that will eliminate negatives. A lot can be done with intention and will. Introducing quick fixes result in abortions of products that can not easily be got rid of. Trust in Nature perhaps attract themoth away by other means, or dissuade it through investigating companion planting. No GM foods have been proved safe in the long run!

no gm food must ever be permitted in south africa. The health implications are obvious. regards p. herlesOrganic is the only way!!Rainbow Circle Films. We don't want any GMO's in our supermarkets, environment, or our bodies.... Stop forcing this potentially dangerous process on us!!!Keep it NATURAL, be part of natures way!

Please hear the people speak

I am 100% against GM products and think that it is our constitutional right to be told what is and what isn't GM.I also do not think that it is ultimatelly good for our earth and for the sustainability of the plants growing naturally here to substitute GM products for natural plants! Our planet is in a bad state, we must do all we can to restort the balance of nature, and that will not be by messing with it and modifying it's true structure to suit our increasin needs, it will rather be by tailoring our needs and our lifestyles to a more sustainable way.

This proposal is unconstitutional in that we are supposed to have a right to the protection of the environment...if this goes ahead htis would represent an obscene violation of our human rights and plain stupidity in view of the rest of the worlds stand against its introduction. What is more as a consumer we have no protection against this as there is no obligation towards transparent labeling of products in this country....so this would leave me no choice other than to give up buying potatoes!!! Please stop this madness. We need local solutions for our people not consumer takeovers by corporate entities, which will only lead to increased poverty in an already dangerously unfair and unequal society.GM foods is harmful to our bodies in an age where emphasis is on natural products and healthy living. Organic is the way forward NOT Genetically modified foods!Fi

There are enough poisons and dodgy substances in our food already, without adding more to this. When will mankind wake up to where all this tampering is leading to?

We MUST not have this product in our country,it will severely compromise our environment and our agriculture!

Page 179: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

We the consumer should have free choice as to what we eat

Sadly this problem applies to every single human being, including the very people who are doing this for profit. Do they not see that this will affect their families as well?

No to GMO

GM products are widely unsurported by consumers, they are not full proof and furthermore we are denied the right of knowing what we are actually eating because there is no obligation for labelling. Consumers have a right to know that what they are consuming will not affect their health in any way, their is little confidence in GM products and as consumers we are not even afforded the right of choice. This will also affect our ability to succesfully continue exportation of potatoes to countries that are aginst GM products, affecting our ability to enhance our economy.

GM foods bad news

I vehemently oppose the marketing and growing of GMO potatoes and implore the SA GMO council to reject the application outright!

We DO NOT WANT these sort of potatoes on our shelves - THEY WILL BE BOYCOTTED! We are also speaking on behalf of those who do not understand the long term effects of making GM products available to consumers.

No GM food at all, ever

Why must Africa be the dumping ground of First World junk? If scientists develop GM food, let their own populations consume it! And as with all other initiatives from developed countries, we should know from experience that it is NEVER to the benefit of the donor countries or their populations! I am willing to participate in any campaign of this nature whereby we not only sell ourselves short, but also endanger our health!

it is absolutely horrendous that GM potatoes are even questioned to be commercialised. Why risk our health for something that we can apprehend!!!!!!!!

When consumers are informed of the potential health risks of GM food, they will want to safeguard themselves and will boycott these foods.

Hear! Hear! Genetically modified crops are yet another example of American capitalist imperialism trying to control the world's seed bank. Seeds are life and each farmer should be able to save and re-sow their own (not be forced to buy them from some American company. Well researched, unbiased information is key in fighting the pseudo scientific propaganda of the pro GM lobbyists. We also demand transparency from our governments. Who gave them a mandate for trial testing of GM crops on our land? We, the people, didn't!Anti gm foods

The consumer needs a choice of what to buy and eat. I will not buy GM Potatoes.

In support of the cause

I like my potatoes just as they are

Don't trust USAID.

This is for their benefit, not Africas.

Every living organism has a role on this earth. Who are we as humans to try alter.Stop GM potatoes

No to GM

I feel it is totally disgusting that anyone can expect anyone else to consume such rubbish. This is a disgrace to the creations of the Creator and the human race is taking it too far. It is the same with the regulations for all the processed meats eg., polonies, hams, viennas ect. The general public is not aware of the fact that these substances called "fit for human consumption" is actually products which gets recycled everytime after the expiry date on the package. The producer just collects again, recycles, add some flavourands, colourants and some disinfectant, repackage and then resell. The same with all products called "Free range", this simply means the chicken has a 1m2 to move in, no different feed like most consumers believe. They are still injected with hormones and anti-bioticts. Scandalous. No wonder we have a sick society, mentally and physically. It's time to wake up. What are the governments of this world creating. And all this just for the fat cats sitting in parlements to cash in? The poor farmer who now wants to implement these farming methods are forced to do so because there is no proper subsidy for them to continue farming. They have to follow fashion trades even in their industry. It's time for the general consumer to be educated. This has to start at schoo

I dont want to eat anything GM foods. If there is nothing else available I will rather grow my own veg.How DARE the government allow genetically modified food to be sold without labeling it and respecting my right to make an informed choice. I do NOT want to buy ANY genetically modified foods!

GMOs can´t be regulated and their contamination will hit everyone at everyplace if we don´t take action against it.I oppose the marketing & growing of GM potatoes.

Why is it that South Africa wishes to tye itself to the large corperates (Money Mongers) of other nations? Who wins in the end? NOT SOUTH AFRICA!!!!!

Page 181: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I think that given the availability of information regarding the dangers of GM foods, it is not only irresponsible, but abusive to governmentally approve such a potentially harmful "foodstuff." Do these people care about their children & other humans at all, or are they practicing ostrich philosophy (burying their heads in the sand) and hoping in their callously chosen ignorance that they will not be held accountable?

The great priority for SA agriculture should be building food security. The work of the IAASTD makes it clear that GM has little role to play in that process. GM is pushed by corporate interests with little true concern for the interests of citizens or consumers.

Please do not allow GM potatoes onto the South African market!!! If you do decide to make a dreadful descision and allow GM potatoes into the market, please have them labeled as such so that we, as consumers, can make our choice to buy or not to buy.Best wishesClinton le Sueur

Does normal pollination take place by bees, etc or not?

I will never knowingly eat GM products, and particularly not GM potatoes which were one of the first GM foods, and which were shown to be potentially hazardous for human consumptionThanks so much for setting this petition. I really hope we can unite in time to stop GM potatoes (and all the GM food stuff) from reaching ZA!I firmly believe that the use of GM potatoes and indeed all GM food is not the way forward.

Little wonder that the incidence of chronic and terminal illnesses is growing at a rate of knots! Best of luck for a successful outcome with this campaignPlease make the farmers realise what they are doing to our foods!

good Luck!!!

No thanks, to being a guinea-pig for an unproven science that has an already flawed track record.Who needs imported GM products when we are encouraging local producers to grow healthy organic foodstuff.an absolute no no. All we need to do is to use or resources efficiently using traditional farming methods. Truth to power

Page 182: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

GM grown food is unnatural and it does not support our system, our bodies, so the result can only be sickness and diseases, is very simple logic, is that what the South Africa's Agriculture and Research Council wants for their community? Is this what the SA goverment wants for their people? There is no such thing as good GM food. The reasons for food shortages and hunger can not be addressed by empowering some global companies that are eventually only worried about their profits. Besides, granting patents on food really is a perverse idea when looking at it from a holistic point of view. Only fetishists of the free market can think of it as a good idea and what free markets can do and what they cannot is still impressively demonstrated by the global financial crisis. To promote decentralized and organic farming with a keen eye on preserving natures diversity is the only longterm tactic to succeed in this challenge for a planet without hunger. As a health practistioner, I will advise all my clients NOT to eat GM potatoes

Having done much research in this area I am adamantly opposed to GM foods. The fact that GM foods are being allowed, firstly, into the food chain, unlabeled, and, secondly, into the ecosystem at large is against my human rights, firstly, to choose what food I eat and, secondly, to exist in a more rather than less safe, healthy environment. I don't ever want to eat genetically modified potatoes!control freaks

this is hippy ineffectiveness, but I agree you want to do something

I am vehemently opposed to GM foods. If there is not going to be compulsory labelling of GM content in foodstuffs so that I can make an informed choice as to whether I want to buy these or not, then I am all for an outright ban on all GM foods. Put the SA consumer's rights before the interests of the US corporates.

No GM food in SA please it is not good for us or the environmentdam potatoes!!!

if we have to have them, they should at least be labelledBoo for GMHealth and environmental concerns

I do not have confidence in the safetly of GM produced food, I do not wish to purchase them or support these ideas.

NO NO NO WE DO NOT WANT IT

Page 183: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

GM food is based on agressive corporate control agendas that have nothing to do with their claims of "helping poor Africa".

I object to the production of so-called genetically modified produce and understand that the consequences of these highly questionable human manipulations of genetic integrity in the cause of short-term monetary profit are dangerous and exhibit a lack of respect for both the natural environment and basic human rights. A more accurate term for these greed-based evolutionary aberrations would be "genetically abused" products and the abuse in question stems from a country (the USA) that is not too inacurrately described as the "Great Satan" by some communities and is also a culture that arises from the ashes of the greatest human and environmental holocaust in human history; reflects the very antithesis of African value system that might broadly be described as "ubuntu" and continues apace its cold, unfeeling materialistic agenda. Some 20 to 30 million Africans perished in the initial New World trade which first brought potatoes to Africa and, as Africans, we should not forget who we are dealing with here or who and what stands behind this new, subtle, and ultimately exploitative and morally PETION AGAISNTS GMO POTATOES

I'm very concerned about this issue!no no no to gm potaoes. We have a right to good health in this countryNo GM potatoes PLEASE.

GM foods are being foisted on us by the Biotech companies because they wish to control world food markets. It is a huge experiment and gamble with human health, and even worse, with the environment. It will be disgraceful if South Africa becomes the first country to approve GM potatoes.

Trials conducted in the UK showed the toxicity of GM potato. Our GMO Act still casts resposibility of any problems associated with gm food on farmers and consumers, a criminal tactic by gm advocates and corporations to avoid responsibility. Ask these advocates why they do not take responsibilty for their products?stop this nonsense at once please! No ways, you simply can't allow it to happen. They should think of our childrens health at least, if they're too selfish and money driven to think of their own!We cannot keep meddling with nature and hope to survive - we are stealing our children's futures.

It is a crime agaist the potatoe to put it quite simply! Please stop all GM foods/ crops. we don't want then and don't need them. Don't hand over power to the big PHARM companies that control this

Page 184: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I am also very concerned about GM food that is for sale but not labeled as such.Instead of calling things GM free I feel it is absolutely necessery to clearly mention where GM substances have been used or were added. One substance i'm very suspicious off is soya lecithin used in chocolate etc. and it carries an E nr without any mention wether it's GM soya or not.I sense we've all been consuming GM substances without beeing aware of doing so and feel that only by clearly labelling all food do i have a choice and chance in not consuming them.

Please don't mess with nature

Never want this to happen....

Nobody should be subjected to eating pesticides, let alone our Government does not inform the consumers of this! This should be stopped immediately! No wonder organic farmers are making so much money! As a conscious consumer, I will not purchase any GM products. I strongly disagree with the principals of GM.No to all GM activities - not necessary with natural eco-sustainable agricultural practices.

It is my right to decide what I eat, and acceptance of GMO products in RSA jeopardises that rightit is very sad to see the masses drowning in ignorance especially when it comes to food consciousness. so it means its our duty and, it is necessary to defend those who don`t even defend themselves. this must be stopped for the sake of the future generations you know.

Think of our children, think of us! Change is constant, but let it at least have all our interests at it's core!Down with GM potatoes Down

GM goods are going to cause massive problems for consumers, that no amount of money saving can justify.

the only way is organic farming , for potatoes & any other products for food or fabric. Potatoes especially are so non-acidic , GMO potatoes would be really terrrible as people generally rely on steamed potatoe & veg when sick & terminally ill , also after eating bad foods , potatoes & onions or whole rice or oats are medicinal .

This lemming like attitude of the rest of the world to follow American practices is not a good way to act.

Page 185: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

Responsible technology is about caring for the earth and the health of its citizens, not simply benefiting greedy capitalism. I support true free enterprise which does not benefit the few at the expense of everyone else-and the earth for generations to come, perhaps irreparably. In years to come our children, grandchildren or their children may well ask: "Teacher, why were people in the 20th & 21st century so stupid as to poison their own earth, their own food, their own water, so that a few greedy (or ignorant?)business owners and investors could make money? Why did they allow power hungry government and greedy business to take nature's perfect seeds and manipulate them, so that they could control them, just to make money?" Teacher might say, with the wisdom of hindsight, "My dear child, the people couldn't see that they were being misled. The masses were easily deceived by clever and repeated advertisements and lies about 'poverty alleviation', 'the solution to world poverty', 'efficiency through technology' 'return on investment' and so on. Farmers were easily duped into buying a pack of seeds and a pack of chemicals; and then a pack of genetically modified seeds which would even resist poison which would kill off other plants (called 'weeds' because many humans and farGM potatoes fed to rats by a research scientist in Scotland were shown to have detrimental side-effects

By alowing GM food on the shelves you are taking away peoples ability to grow theyr own food & handing over that right to a big Corporation like Monsanto, so that they may engineer future food shortages in firtile countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe,Ethiopia, Ecuador etc. so that IMF & World Bank can usurp the wealth of developing Nations. I have seen the Future of Food DVDand its really an eye opener. G.M.food needs to be stopped init's tracks! Good luck with the petition and campaign!

I will not buy GM food. Please prevent them coming onto our shelves and cross contaminating non GM crops!

I do not wish to be exposed in any way to genetically modified foods.

The main benefactors from GM potatoes will be the suppliers of the seed, GM food is NOT FOR THE LONG TERM BENIFIT OF FOOD FOR HUMANS!I am absolutely and completely against the growing or marketing of GM potatoes or any other vegetable for that matter. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to add my voice to this campaign. Jo Pentz

Agree to support the rejection of the GM potoato and will forward this to my friends and colleageswhat a shame if the organics movement is compromised by sinking to the level of genetically modifying our vegetable crops. I strongly object to such a move

Gimme natural!!no way we will be feeding our families these potatoes.I don't want anything that is genetically modified going on my dinner table. Natural and organic is the only way we should be growing our crops. It starts here, but will end in tears...

totally and completely against gm potatoes.GM crops are not real progress, to feed the poor or to make farming more environmentally friendly - they are just another method to enrich a few on whom farmers and consumers will be made dependent.

Page 186: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

personally, I will not use any potatoes or products containing potatoes if I don't know that they are non-GM. I also feel it would be my duty to tell other consumers about the possible dangers and encourage them not to use GM-potatoes.

No GM products should be entertained in SA

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO TO GM ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!! EULELA RABIEGM foods are not acceptable to me personally. At the very least size specified (as with cigarettes) labelling of GM foods should be lecgislated.I am vehemently opposed to Genetically Modified crops of any nature. My research has led me to believe that they pose a health risk for people who eat them and they quickly subsume all natural crops. I unequivocally say NO to the Spunta G2 potatoe and any other GM product. I would sooner starve rather than knowingly eat a Genetically Modified food. NO to GM potatoes. our family, friends, refuse to eat GM potatoesNot normal, absolutely disgusting. What? next are we going to be expected to instead of food swollow more vitamins. Cause the vegetables don't give oour bodies what we need. Or my grand kids are going to be allergic to veg. huh uh. GM potato, Good bye! Don't want it.

I oppose the marketing and growing of GMO potatoes because of the risk to health. It is dangerous!!!

I cannot think of anything worse than a GM Potato or a plastic chipIt is my right to know what I am eating and if GM food is allowed at all - which I am against - at least it should be labeled. If Mugabe could keep GM out o Zim surely we can too!!!!Its my right to know what I am eating and my right to eat safe and that is why I don't want GM food in SA

Thanks for putting so much effort in a healthy planet&people.Cheers. Laetitia

There is no logical reason to allow these potatoes, they jeopardise our health, our South African environment and our economyGrowing GM foods in South Africa increases our reliance on other countries for our food security. As a resident of one of the most bio-diverse countries on the planet, I strongly object to the introduction of pesticide-bearing plant materials into this country. I appose the growing and selling of GM Potatoes

I reject GM potatoes being introduced into South Africa.

I believe that the use of Genetically modified crops is fundamentally flawed and represents risks to both health and biodiversity. Plus there isn't a good deal of evidence that they offer significant advantage in the longer term to offset those potential risks.

Page 187: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I do not want to feed my family potatoes with built-in pesticides, and I understand that once GM crops are introduced, it is difficult to distinguish them in the shop from non-GM produce. I therefore believe that this reduces the right of South Africans to food security (which includes an element of choice). Furthermore, international research and local experience show that the GM crops do not improve food security for the poor, as in the long run it increases the cost of production. The South African government needs to listen to its citizens and not chase after every foreign investment opportunity that comes its way!

Stop all GM food!! Leave nature to feed us.absolutely against GMO foods. this is for the safety of my children! No GMO without proven safety & sustainabillity!

Keepin it real. No GMSouth-africa is getting invaded by US crops and farmers are selling their soul. Let's say NO

consumers should be consulted in a transparent process before these decisions are made.

organic is the way forward. strongly oppose GM PotatoesPlease don't go down this route - these are purely commercial and not human decisions and not good for mankind

No to all Gm foods

GM technology has not yet proved its worth to the consumer, in fact there are a lot of fears that GM products can cause damage to consumers and to the environment, therefore it is inappropriate that GM potatoes should be commercialised in this country at this time.

A big NO for gm potatoesWe don't want to eat GM foods. Out with all GM foods!!!stop gm foods!!!

Page 188: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

If the ARC and Government people who want to permit this are prepared to pledge their own entire personal wealth as guarantee, that these GM potatoes will not cause any damage or harm then they can go ahead and make them legal. I am prepared to list and pledge all I own and will ever own and earn, to them, that open-pollinated organic and bio-dynamic seed and produce will cause no damage and harm!!

Keep it natural like it was intended.

Would you feed your children genetically modified potatoes?

I don't want to eat GM foods!

Petition against GM potatoes

Very pleased to add my voice against the commercialization of GMO potatoes.

Eat the natural way

We want normal potatoes, because we are normal human beings. We don't eat your GM potatoes NEVER.

Stop messing with nature!

no GM potatoes please

Biodiversity of plant life is crucial for the survival of all species on the planet.

GM=the beginning of the end, besides tampering with God's creation.Let's try be a bit more foresighted than go the GM route!

I strongly reject GM potatoes.I have the right to choose what I eat. none

We have no idea what the long term ramifications of GM food are as well as the health and economic risks that they pose to developing countries.LEAVE MY VEGGIES THE WAY THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!Viva couch activism! I hope there are enough of us who care enough, and that powers that be sit up and take notice.

Thanks guys.

Page 189: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

Keep our food safe and help African farmers by rejecting GM Potatoes

Leave us some real food

It cannot go ahead - the public have not had a say in this very serious matter and this is lead purely by motives of greed and controlthis is not acceptable. I strongly oppose all GM foodstuffs is SA. It is extremely negative for our land, our people and our country, the marketability of our products internationally and our reputation. Follow the Western World's example for good reason and stop all GM in SA.Please reject GM potatoes

GM's account for more harm than good. The bees for one. GM's are poison. Thank you for your efforts to educate. If we knew about them, we would make the choice not to buy GM's.I guess I'll have to keep my day-job, and farm by night.

No way for GM Potatoes!

We don't need no steenkeeng GM potatoes...

I am opposed to genetically modified produce or the concept of corporates can generate profit at the expense of the degeneration of the environment and other people's health.

Thank you.I appreciate your work and support the rejection of all such heinous behaviour.By the way, I'm not sure it is absolutely necessary to stipulate gender on the petition.I happen to be fortunate to be male and born male but am aware that others do not have such simple gender.Up to you.

I would love to sign a petition advocating for the labeling of GM foods too.

check your colesterolrespect my right to safe food; legislate to label gm foodA big NO! to al GM food.

Page 190: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I think genetically modified foods, are contrary to nature and could stop the natural cycle of nature. I am very much against it.

As part-time farmer I protest the potential contamination of potato crops. I further protest the potential damage to the Sandveld region

NO NO NO. I want to know that the food I'm eating is not GM.

I am totally against GM Foods. If GM foods are being grown or traded they should be labelled so to protect the consumer.

This is outrageous.....stop GM foods now.Any product with GM ingredients in it should be labeled as such, it's immoral and unethical not to do so.

GM Products like this need to be ceased i.t.o. their introduction to the SA environment. The health and environmental risks are too great and unknown.i personally will not buy these due to the health risks involved.

This American product is a waiste of trime in South Afric. Treaditional African farmers have stored their poduce using the izesele method which will cost far less than this American solution.(Chanelling amonia gas from the cattle kraal to the storage area.)We know that GM foods are unhealthy, it is only obvious to stop producing it. Why is so difficult to do the correct thing ?

I do not want to eat GM potatoes, nor do I want them growing anywhere near the potatoes that I am going to eat. It's unacceptable to foist this kind of experimental technology in food on the public. Since labelling is not mandatory, you remove people's right to choose. Worse, people who are not informed and do not have access to independent media will not know these GM crops could be harmful to their health. Africans are not lab rats - tell the multinationals to go elsewhere.

comsumers speak out!

Please stop GM Produce in SA

WE DON'T NEED OR WANT GM FOODS

South Africa would do better to invest money in Organic farming as has been done with great success in Brazil instead of compromising the nation's health in the pursuit of money.

It's so sad that South Africa, which has such a great opportunity to lead the world in organic production, is instead jumping on the greed bandwagon.

Page 191: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

I will definitely not buy any GM potatoes. Please do not allow GM potatoe farming.

Thank you for the time and energy spent looking after our todays and tommorrowsThis stuff is dangerous! Letting people eat it is criminal.

I hate gm potatoes!!!!!if it is true that Egypt and the EU have both refused permits for gm potatoes on their markets, it only makes sense that we pay attention as to why they should choose to do so and follow their lead. as it is, gmo has not had much support from informed individuals, and should not be released amongst not-so-well informed people who will, one day, pay a price of some sort for introducing them. if storage is the issue, then let us look at the storage problem, not at how to change the natural product being stored - especially not if, as a consequence, it can potentially affect the safety of the public. genetically modified produce has not been met with the anticipated enthusiasm, reflecting the lack of trust in them - this is the quiet voice of the people. if not listened to, this quiet voice may turn into a roar, at which point it will cost nations more than they bargained for. money used for the development of genetically modified organisms would be better spent on developing systems that ensure public safety issues ranging from food No genetic mutated food to anybody!!!!

GM not only has the potential to irreprably harm nature and as a consequence human survival due to the lack of scientific knowledge of the interrelatedness and balance of nature, it effectively removes the Communities legal and humanistic rights to sustain themselves in a natural way. Life will be controlled by Monsanto and supposedly democratic Community elected representatives.governments are condoning community control by business!

GM foods need more research. We as the public object to our environment and ourselves being used as a laboratory. Nature is a complex co-evolving context that GM researchers are ignoring.

Its a good business model - guarantees income for geneticists. There is no benefit or release for the people.

Pease let me have a say in what I want to eat,the crops that we have is all we need

Page 192: firstname lastname area name Ernest Effer 10 Peaslands ...acbio.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/finalpetition8september.pdf · Denise Terry Scarr Eastern Cape - Jeffrey's Bay test

The hazards of releasing this into the environment cannot be overstated.

All other concerns aside, no assessment has been made of the evolutionary impact on ecosystems of GM crops. Remember that nature has had about 4 billion years of practise at out-evolving changes in ecosystem stimuli, so that permitting the release of GM crops might provide the claimed benefits for at best a few years, after which the ecosystems will evolve around the introduced organisms' effects.

By these actions our Constitutional Rights to protection of our environment are being contemptuously ignored. Will all potatoes be clearly marked as Genetically modified? If this is allowed- we will be sure to boycott these potatoes. I'd rather eat the tuber moth.

Lets stop this madness one product at a timeI will refuse to purchase GM Potatoes-let's keep SA free of GM potatoe crops!

Genetic modification is against the LAWS OF NATURE. It is untested, unreliable and very unpredictable.

It is not only direct health risks which are of concern re GMO, but also the patenting of food so that natural reproduction is impossible and growers have to buy seeds annually.
