OUR RESPONSE

Sending Forth BREAK EVERY CHAIN Praise Band

Greeters for September 8th: Hope and Buck Newton, Krystal, Dwayne, and Ben Baker, Linda Pittman

We thank the Praise Band for their ministry this morning.

From the Pastor:

Our lesson this week from the prophetic book of Jeremiah begins with the Lord telling Jeremiah to “go down to the potter’s house, and I will let you hear my words.” So, Jeremiah did as he was told and he saw the potter working at his wheel. “The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the pot-ter’s hands, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him.” This story takes me back to a time in my life about 40 years ago. I was serving a Church in the community of Mt. Pleasant near Bailey. There was a wonderful farm and peach orchard in the community owned by the Finch family. One of their sons, Dan lived and worked the farm and, as a sideline, taught and made pottery. He had a pottery shop and all the equipment that was needed to create beautiful masterpieces. One day he invited me to give it a try and I sat at the potter’s wheel and took a shot at what looked to be so easy. Without going into a great deal of detail, let me just say it was not! After several tries at throwing a pot, the mas-ter potter kindly suggested that I spend my creative hours pursuing another hobby! This lesson from Jeremiah ends with a stern warning for us today, as a nation, a Church, and as individuals. The Lord speaks! “Turn, now, all of you from your evil ways, and amend your ways and your do-ings.” As this bulletin is being prepared, we are watching another storm that is threatening our coast. Prayers are going up that we might be spared the tragedy that is possible from a massive hurricane. And, what better time than this for us to go to the potter’s house where He will let us hear his words! Pastor Charles
