Co-Offensive Player of the Year

REESE POFFENBARGERMIDDLETOWN SENIOR QUARTERBACK

An excellent overall athlete who was a threat to run as well as pass.

Played his best when his team needed him the most in leading the Knights to the Class 2A state championship, the school’s fourth title in football overall and first since 2013. Will be remembered as one of the best quarterbacks to ever come through the program.

Broke the Frederick County Public Schools single-season record for both passing yards (2,943) and passing touch-downs (32). Also accounted for 449 yards and 16 touchdowns as a runner.

Will continue his career on a full scholarship at Old Dominion University.

CARSON SICKERICATOCTIN JUNIOR RUNNING BACK

A gifted runner whose combination of vision and speed make him very difficult to bring down.

Finished the season with 2,352 rushing yards and a Frederick County single-season record 36 touchdowns on 265 attempts. Also added four receiving touchdowns and a kickoff return for a score in leading Catoctin to the Class 1A championship, the second state title in school history and first since 2009.

Served as the focal point for a Catoctin offense that scored 572 points over the course of the season and crossed the 40-point threshold in 11 of the 13 games that it played.

Some of his most notable performances included a 281-yard, six-touchdown effort in the state quarterfinals against Fairmont Heights and a 235-yard, three-touchdown showing the following week in a blowout win over Fort Hill in the state semifinals.

A disruptive force for the Bears defense against both the run and the pass. His uncanny ability to attack the inside shoulder of offensive linemen forced running backs to run to the outside of their line, which funneled them into the arms of waiting defenders.

Led the team in tackles (58), sacks (10.5), tackles for loss (24.5, a single-season school record) and quarterback pressures (33).

Finished his career as Oakdale’s all-time leader in sacks (17.5), tackles for loss (50.5) and quarterback pressures (90).
