Mission Statement “Our Lady of Lourdes Parish is a family of believers, embraced by the Father’s love, nourished by Jesus in Word and Sacrament, and strengthened by the Holy Spirit. Inspired by Mary we commit ourselves to live and proclaim the Gospel of Salvation.”

Father Gary writes

I would like to begin by thanking you for your gifts, cards, words of wisdom and encouragement as I celebrate forty years of priesthood. The Mass last Sunday was beautiful and inspiring. Thank you John, Eric, Lisa, all the singers and musicians. My friend, Canon John Harvey, was most impressed and affirmed us as truly being a dynamic parish! Thanks also to Mary Kibbey, Millie Cantone, Doreen Saccardo, Eileen Morris and all those who hosted and prepared the reception in the Conmy Center. Everything was simply perfect. We are blessed with a very dedicated Parish and School Staff and it is a joy to minister with them and Father Victor. It is a privilege to be your Pastor. I would also like to thank Camille Campins-Adams for Chairing (with her outstanding Committee and Volunteers) the 15

th

Saints and Sinners Gala ‘The Greatest Show.’ Great, outstanding, fun, superb, are just some of the superlatives one can use to describe this event benefitting our school. In a few weeks we will publish the results, once all the vendors have been paid. Thank you to all our sponsors. Looking forward to next year!

Last Wednesday we began forty days to fast, pray, and give alms through sacrificial love (outreach) to our brothers and sisters in our twin parish and school in Haiti, and Catholic Relief Services, with the Rice Bowls. Haiti envelopes are available at all the main entrances. Please deny yourself something each day (week) and in doing so give life, hope, to others. Lent is a season of grace and opportunity. Grace is lavishly poured upon us through the Sacraments. Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, open your heart, life and relationships to the healing power of God’s grace. Let’s surrender everything that prevents us, stops us, holds us back from being the best version of ourselves. I encourage you to sign up for ‘The Best Lent Ever’ through Dynamic Catholic. Just go online to www.DynamicCatholic.com. Please use the tabs to affirm that you belong to a Dynamic Parish, and click on our parish name. ‘Tap Into Lent’ for the guys of the parish begins on March 9

th, 7:00pm, at the

Dunedin House of Beer. ‘Walking With Purpose’ for the ladies takes place on a Thursday at 7:00pm in the Conmy Center. Fish Fries are held each Friday in the School Cafeteria from 4 to 7pm. Stations of the Cross (a beautiful meditation on Christ’s journey to Calvary) are prayed each Friday at 9:30am and 7:00pm. Enjoy all the grace-filled opportunities to grow in faith and love.

Our LENTEN MISSION, presented by Dominick Albano, takes place on Monday and Tuesday, March 2

nd and 3

rd, at 7:00pm. There are no

morning presentations this year, sorry. Theme: ‘Finding Happiness, God’s plan for your Happy Life.’ Dominick is an inspiring speaker, and used to work for Dynamic Catholic. This mission is the perfect opportunity to kick start our Lenten journey, giving us 20-20 vision, perfect clarity, to live a happy and fulfilled life. I hope you were able to read his book ‘The Essential Guide To Prayerful Decision Making,’ focusing on the all-important question: ‘What does God want me to do?’

Rest In Peace, Father Frank Reverend Francis (Frank) Burshnick, SCJ, 82, a retired member of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 21, at the Sacred Heart Residence, in Pinellas Park, where he resided. During his 12 years in the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Father Frank regularly provided assistance to St. Brendan Parish, Clearwater Beach, along with Our Lady of Lourdes, Dunedin. He was ordained

to the priesthood on May 1, 1970 and would have celebrated his Golden Jubilee this spring.

A Memorial Mass is planned for Wednesday, March 4, at 11:00AM at St. Brendan Catholic Church, Clearwater Beach.

Father Gary wishes to thank all who attended his 40th Anniversary

Mass and Reception...

….and for the many GIFTS, messages of SUPPORT, and outpouring of LOVE!

Thank You!

2020 Annual Pastoral Appeal As we reflect on our many blessings during this season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, let us be mindful to give God thanks and praise. Father Gary would like to extend his personal gratitude to all who have generously participated in the 2020 Annual Pastoral Appeal. As we pray on the Life, Death and Resurrection of our Lord, remembering the unconditional sacrifice He made for us and our salvation, may we remember those in most need throughout our diocese, and courageously respond with grateful hearts and generosity. If you have any questions about APA, the services it funds, or how it benefits our parish, please call our parish office or visit our diocesan website at https://www.dosp.org/ and discover something new about our local Church outreach. If you have not yet responded, please know we want and need your participation! Every gift, every prayer, and every sacrifice brings hope to someone seeking the love and mercy of Christ.

The Devil’s Traps Those who tempt us to do evil often smile sweetly and have excellent social skills. Satan talked very persuasively to Adam and Eve and they fell for his wiles. That same smooth talker tried his tricks on Jesus but finally left, unable to turn

Jesus’ heart away from God. All of us face versions of each temptation faced by Jesus. The Evil One gets a real foothold not when we break rules but when we develop sinful habits. Words shouted once in anger and regretted are less damaging than a habit of belittling people. Breaking one’s marriage vow and repenting is not like a pattern of cheating over years. Lent is as annual season of spiritual “spring cleaning.” Has it been a while since you went to confession? Consider it now. If you go to the sacrament and confess the same sins over and over, ask yourself why. God forgives not just once, but for always.

Living Stewardship Now A prayer for Lent: “O Lord, who has mercy upon all, take away from me my sins, and mercifully kindle in me the fire of thy Holy Spirit. Take away from me the heart of stone, and give me a heart of flesh, a heart to love and adore Thee, a heart to delight in Thee, to follow and enjoy Thee, for Christ’s sake. Amen.” —Saint Ambrose of Milan (339–397)

LENT: PRAY, FAST, GIVE ALMS

Lenten Almsgiving Our Lenten Almsgiving will be directed to Catholic Relief Services (Rice Bowls) and to our Twin Parish and School, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Acul des Pins, Haiti.

• At all the Masses on Ash Wednesday you are invited to take a Rice Bowl. We are asking each household, as part of our Lenten journey, to fill the rice bowl through sacrificial gifts. With your support every year, the Catholic community in the United States assists more than 100 million of the world’s poorest people. Rice Bowls will be collected on Holy Thursday, April 9, at the Mass of the Last Supper.

• Our Twin Parish and School, Sacred Heart of Jesus located in Acul Des Pins, Haiti is also part of our Lenten Almsgiving. Please visit the display located in the Narthex beginning on Ash Wednesday. Please use the special envelopes provided in the pews and place them in the Sunday offertory collection or return them to the parish office.

RCIA - First Sunday of Lent This Sunday at the 9:30am Mass we are celebrating the Call to Continuous Conversion for 7 candidates and the Rite of Sending for 2 catechumens in the R.C.I.A. These Rites mark the community’s endorsement of these men and women and declares them the ones to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. The catechumens will celebrate the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of St. Jude in St. Petersburg Sunday afternoon. During this Rite, Bishop Parkes will declare the “catechumens” the “Elect” - those chosen for Baptism at Easter.
