KINGDOM WEEKEND — MARCH 10-11 Before Jesus began His public ministry He spent 40 days in the desert praying and fasting as a way to

prepare for the important work ahead. Those were days of retreat. And, during His public ministry

Jesus would sometimes invite His disciples to "come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest

a while." Again, days of retreat.

This Lent you are being invited to take some time away from your normal activities and give it to the

Lord. It is an opportunity to spend some time getting reacquainted with God and to build your rela-

tionship with Him. The Kingdom Weekend will take place right here at St. Alexander on Saturday

March 10 and Sunday March 11. During the retreat you will experience fellowship, make new friends,

and have a fun, positive, faith-filled learning experience. Meals are provided, just bring yourself -

and a friend!

Kingdom Weekend team members will be available after Masses the weekends of Feb. 17-18,

and March 3-4 to answer your questions and accept registrations. Make this the Lent that you

take time off from the distractions of life and spend a weekend with God to deepen your friendship

with Him. Make this the year that you experience the Kingdom Weekend!

The Kingdom Retreat

The Kingdom Retreat Team would like to invite you to

the 2018 Kingdom Retreat at St. Alexander Parish. This is a unique

weekend experience for anyone in all walks of life.

Whether male or female, single or married, 18 or 108 – all are welcome!

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

If there is one word that stands out in today's readings, it is "covenant." God's faithfulness and goodness serve as examples to us of how to live. Genesis tells the sto-ry of Noah and of God's covenant not only with all people, but with all of nature. Never will the cleansing waters of the flood bring their destructive power to all the earth again. The sign, the reminder to both God and nature, is the rainbow in the heavens.

The psalm reminds us of this compassion of God, and begs God to remember us, not because of our good-ness, but because of God's goodness and fidelity to the promise. God shows us how to be good, not by decree, but by example.

WORD OF LIFE

“Many parents want perfect children. Our culture

is obsessed with perfection—a superficial perfec-

tion. Photos are airbrushed, and social media sites

depict seemingly perfect lives. God calls us to

seek perfection, too. He does not call us, howev-

er, to perfection of appearance or abilities, but to

perfection in love .”

CONFIRMATION RETREAT Confirmation marks a unique moment in a person’s

life when one is invited to grow in faith and, through

the power of the Holy Spirit, embrace a new maturity

and deeper meaning of the Risen Christ. Confirmation

is the Sacrament wherein we invoke the coming of the

Holy Spirit into the life of the candidate and thus

completes the initiation into the Catholic Church. To

be eligible for the Sacrament of Confirmation, students

must be at least in the 8th grade and have received Baptism and First Holy Eucharist.

They must have completed at least 2 years of Religious Education immediately prior

to the Confirmation year.

This Sacrament is an important milestone along the journey of a Catholic life. For

teens, it represents an opportunity to look at our Catholic faith in a more adult way—

exploring, discerning and deciding to make a willful and intentional commitment to

learn and live the Catholic faith, beliefs, morals, and practices.

Our St. Alexander Parish was blessed to have had Deacon Tim Keating once again

facilitate the Confirmation Retreat last week where all 8th grade St. Al’s and REP

students participated in a prayerful meaningful day. The day started out with Mass

and involved many activities including St. Alexander Parish High school students

sharing in their faith journeys. I would like to thank Deacon Tim, teachers, catechists,

parent volunteers and the Life teen high school students who took time out of their

busy schedules to work together to make the day so meaningful.

Please continue to keep our 8th grade student’s in your prayers as they continue to

prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, April 12th.

Peace and God Bless, Nancy Cook

Spiritual Adoption Program Month 4—Developing Baby

“Mommy felt me kick today!” Your spiritually adopt-ed baby weighs over one pound now, and his mother can feel his movement. Before this time he was too small for her to feel. He needed to be big and strong enough to kick hard against the outside wall– the inside wall of the uterus has little feeling. We are mid-way through the pregnancy now. Your prayers have helped your baby’s mother continue with her pregnancy and seek the help she needs.

Ad Altare Dei On Sunday, January 28th at Holy Name Cathedral, Devin Devine along with four of his fellow Boy Scouts from St. Alexander Troop 337 received the Ad Altare Dei religious emblem. The Scouts worked on this religious emblem under the guidance of Fran Pendergast. The Ad Altare Dei religious emblem represents hard work and dedication towards their total personal and spiritual growth to actively live out their Catholic Christian faith. The Scouts worked over a five month period discussing the Sacraments and other im-portant aspects of our faith and performing community charitable service. We wish to thank Scoutmaster David Vasil and Charter Representative Fran Pendergast for their continued dedication and leadership to our Troop 337.
