6th Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Conference, İzmir, 2010

Preface

The sixth of the Annual Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Conference is going to be realized between June 15-18, 2010 in one of the wonderful location in Turkey, Çeşme Altın Yunus Hotel in İzmir, organized by the Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) with the collaboration of three other neighbor Institutions, Ege, Gediz, and 9 Eylul Universities. The NanoTR-VI conference covers a wide spectrum of important topics on nanoscience, nanotechnology, environmental and health issues. The conference program includes over 920 papers presented in 5 oral and 3 poster sessions over four days. The presentations provide in-depth discussions in various areas, encompassing Nanomaterials including Nanoparticles, Nanocavities, Nanocrystals, Nano-porous materials; Nanotubes, Nanowires, Nanofilms; Nanomembranes, Nanostructures with catalytic properties, Electrochemical materials; Nanobiotechnology, Nanomedicine, Nanobionics, Nanotoxicology, biosensors; drug targeting and release, Applications of Nanotechnology in Medicine; Nanoelectronics, Spintronics, Nano-Magnetics, Quantum Computing, Qubits; Molecular and Supramolecular Materials, Organic and Hybrid Electronics: OLEDs, OTFTs, OSCs, DSSCs; Nano-Optics, Nano-Optoelectronics, Nano-Photonics; Nano-Fabrication, Nano-Lithography, Nano-Manipulation; Nanoscale Characterisation, Nano-imaging, Nanoscopy, Nano-metrology; NEMs, MEMs, Nano-Fluidics, Nano-Actuators, Nano-Sensors, Nano-robotics; Nanomechanics, Nanotribology, Nanocomposites; Nanotechnology for Energy (fuel cell, solar cell, hydrogen storage); Nano in Textile, Agriculture and Food Science; and Social, economical, and environmental Effects, Safety, Ethical issues. Being the most comprehensive and scientifically popular conference, NanoTR conference was initially commenced in Ankara (2005), in İstanbul (2008), and lately in Eskisehir (2009). The number of the registered participants has been growing significantly reaching about more than seven hundred people last year and over 1200 participants this year. Having 80% of the participants from Turkey and 20% of them from other 32 countries, the NanoTR conference is now an international conference powered by all the stakeholders from academia, industry, and the government. Over 35 nanoscience and nanotechnology companies, exhibiting either their products or sponsoring our meeting, contributed the success of this conference.

The extended abstracts submitted to the conference were evaluated by 110 referees and selected abstracts were categorized either an oral or a poster presentation. The conference was organized in 8 plenary talks, 45 invited talks, 220 oral, and more than 650 poster presentations.

This Conference Proceedings serves as a permanent record of the technical papers and the other information related to the conference. It was organized according to the conference program such that the oral presentations were included first by each theme, and followed by the poster presentations for each day. The submitted abstracts were included in the present NanoTR-VI extended abstract book. In addition, selected 125 oral/poster presentations were invited to be published in "Online Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NanoTR6)" at American Institute of Physics (AIP) proceedings; 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts were invited to be published in the Turkish Journal of Chemistry (listed in the Web of Science); 35 peer-reviewed manuscripts were invited to be published in a special issue of Turkish Journal of Engineering and Environmental Sciences (TJEES); and 20 manuscripts were invited to be published in a special issue of International Journal of Material Science and Electronics Research (IJMSER).

On behalf of the Organization Committee and the Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), I would like to take this opportunity to thank all conference participants, plenary speakers, session chairs, authors/presenters, members of the Advisory Board, and members of the Organising Committee, Awards Committee, who have all contributed to making this Conference a great success. The support by the Rector Dr. Zafer Ilken of the Izmir Institute of Technology, and the financial support by the Sponsoring Organizations are gratefully acknowledged. A special thanks goes to Izmir Governor, Cahit Kırac, for the

Gala Dinner. I would like to thank all the graduate and undergraduate students for their efforts in helping to prepare the conference proceeding book and its CD, and also managing the overall operation of the NanoTR-VI Conference. Finally, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Ekrem Ozdemir and Dr. Metin Tanoglu, who have provided outstanding leadership and enthusiasm in planning and organization for the settings of the Conference.

I hope that the scientific and technical issues presented at this meeting will serve to stimulate further developments in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology to achieve the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life.

I wish a fruitful conference for all the participants.
