We have been hanging on, doing all we know to do, while changes in our demographic and age-related loss have eaten away at our congregation. Christ has called us to speak grace and reconciliation to a hurting world. Yes, we need to care for our own. But we must also go to people outside our walls. When we do so, we not only help others, we ourselves grow in our relationships with Christ. I am excit- ed about what this congregation has done in early November! Fabens, Texas is located 30 miles southeast of El Paso. 12 of our people loaded up tools and work clothes and traveled there to spend 4 days helping the Perez family. David and Syl- via Perez live in a Colonia, an unincorporated area just north of Fabens. They own a fenced lot there and live in a 1970 single-wide mobile home. They are also raising 2 nieces, one 21 months and the other 13 years old. Some of us stayed in bunk rooms at the Fabens UMC, and some stayed at a motel. We shared group meals and prayer time. During our time there, our crew managed to rebuild a bathroom in the Perez home, greatly improve the plumbing, build an exterior water heater enclosure, skirt the whole trailer, and clean up the lot. It was hard, dirty work, but we had fun working together. We also delivered more than half a ton of household goods (bedding, towels, plates, glass- es, cookware, etc.) to Fabens UMC. Pastor Frances Gonzales really knows herpeople, and she will distribute these goods to appropriate families along with commodities in November. It is important that we understand that this was not just the work of the 12 who went to Fabens. We went representing the loving Roswell congregation. Y our contributions and your missions budget bought materials for the repairs. Y ou have helped to collect the goods that were given through the New Beginnings mission. And the most important part was your prayers that were so critical to the good will and success of this trip. Credit for this work belongs to God, and none of the workers need thanks. But I encour- age you to ask any of us about this trip, the work, the people served, the Fabens UMC, or great time we had. Those who can tell you are Donna Cypert, Johnny Lynch, John Correia, John Correia Jr., Kelly Cockrell, Robert Cardona, Jaime Martinez, Bryan Yates, Gary Spreacker, Tina Cross, Laird Cross, or Mike Puckett. We have made the 911 call, and FUMC is on the move! Stay tuned for more information about local work FUMC-Roswell will be doing. The gift of generosity This holiday season, we thank everyone who has sup-ported First United Methodist Church this past year with their time, talent and financial contributions and look forward to support from all of our members in the year ahead. If you need a convenient way to make regular

offerings or if you plan to make an additional gift before the end of the year, we encourage you to look into our electronic giving options. As the pace of life speeds up, especially around the holidays, you may find electronic giving a most welcome way to make contributions.
