Let us help with your planning!
Those churches using the denomination’s VBS curriculum materials may want to visit www.pcusa.org/webelieve/vbs for free downloadable materials to enhance this summer's experience. You will find
invitations, boarding passes, postcards, etc., to create interest and promote this year’s summer exploration. Iron-on patches and blow-up globes can be pur-chased separately for the "Around the World in Five Days" theme. We hope these "extras" will be creative tools for churches using our We Believe VBS.
The denomination’s new confirmation curricula is available to order for fall 2005, but it has NOT YET completed printing! As soon as it is available in the Resource Center, you will read it in an edition of First Monday. We do have
a sample. These materials are formatted the same as the four survey courses for younger youth in the We Believe curricu-lum. To reserve your copy or request a sample package, call (800) 524-2612. Ask for the following:
Curricula: item #623007 Sample: item #623007S
Now in… Summer curriculum materials from…
...including… the Young Adult Bible Study series, Jesus and the Hip-Hop Generation and the Adult Book study, The Holy Spirit, by Mateen Elass.
Happy Baptism Day by Judy Jolly
...is a delightful, gentle story for children about Anna Lois who remembers everything that has made her baptism day and the day before it special. If you are using this for your particular church, note that the story in-cludes the gift of a candle and the phrase altar rail.
Reflecting with God: Connecting Faith and Daily
Life in Small Groups by Abigail Johnson
… is an excellent adult study that not only helps participants discern the presence of God in their daily lives, but it offers great, practical ideas and en-couragement to lay leaders who may be leading a group for the first time!
When Better Isn’t Enough: Evaluation Tools for the 21st Century
by Jill Hudson ...offers practical, understandable tools for evaluating the effectiveness of church leader-ship in an era when the world has changed considerably while the church has not!
Those Who Forget the Past: The Question of Anti-Semitism edited by Ron Rosenbaum,
...is a collection of powerful essays about the origin and nature of the new anti-Semitism. Essays deal with such questions as the following: Why now? What is or isn’t new? Is A Second Holocaust possible, this time in the Middle East? How does Anti-Semitism differ from anti-Zionism?
Thirst: God and the Alcoholic
Experience by James B. Nelson
...is the author’s personal and theological reflection on alcohol addiction and recovery.
The Seeds of Heaven: Sermons on the Gospel of Matthew
by Barbara Brown Taylor ...includes fifteen of Taylor’s sermons.

Montreat Conference Center Marketing Team Earns Top Award (Montreat, NC) – On January 29, 2005, at the 38th annual PICA Awards, the “Best of Category” award for sales campaigns was presented to Daniels Graphics for “Montreat 2005.” The entry featured a series of printed materials promoting Montreat Conference Center. PICA Awards are recognized as the symbol of print media excellence throughout the Carolinas. This year’s competition, which included 920 entries from 75 printing companies, was judged by three out-of-state industry experts. Award designations included first place “Best of Category,” second place “Special Judges’ Award,” and an honorable mention “Award of Excellence.” “This is quite an honor,” said Montreat Conference Center president George F. Barber, III, at a recent luncheon hosted by Daniels Graphics in honor of the achievement. “The marketing team here at the conference center, combined with a great team of designers at Daniels Graphics, worked to create a series of pieces that would really capture the essence of this place – its beauty, the high caliber of our programs, the hospitality visitors enjoy. The end result has been an effective, attractive campaign in which we can all take pride.” Owner and CEO of Daniels Graphics, James Daniels, noted that the competition, as it always is with the PICA Awards, was keen this year. The judges deliberated for two days before decisions were finalized. “Being ‘Best of Category’ is not to be taken lightly,” Daniels said. “I’ve seen plenty of times when no one qualified in a particular category, so they simply didn’t give the award that year. Winning really means something.” Merri Bass, Vice President for Program Development and Marketing at Montreat Conference Center, agreed. “A PICA Award signifies excellence. Naturally, we’re extremely proud of what the conference center and Daniels Graphics have accomplished together.” But she went on to add that winning this year raises the bar for future years and future projects. “Our goal now,” Bass said, “is to see a couple of these awards added to our collection every year.”
