The Art of Collaging A collage is a work of visual art made from an assemblage of different forms to create a new whole. The term collage derives from the French word “coller” which means “to glue.”Collages have always intrigued me. Even more so that I’ve begin to develop my style of collaging. These are some great examples of collage artists who take the art form to a new level. This is a piece by Mayuko Fujino. I love his use of colour.

Kenyan collage artist Wangechi Mutu uses collage as a means of both physically and conceptually bringing layered depth to her work. Using images cut from fashion magazines she creates work that is as visually stimulating as it is political. Here’s an untitled collage from Wangechi.

Hong Kiat like Wangechi Mutu uses photos, but Hong uses photos of apple products to create this hyper realistic piece.

Adrian Kenyon’s surrealistic collages are as busy as they are dynamic.

Eric Carle is by far the most famous collage artist. His children’s book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” redefined illustration with his technique of collage using tissue paper
