Business Matters
September 2013

What’s Ahead for
Health Care?
The Greece Chamber of Commerce has been providing
health insurance plans to the business community for over
two decades. I have been with the Chamber for only 6.5
years but in that short time we have already seen an
immense amount of changes within the health insurance
arena.
We all know that at the end of this year the bulk of the
Affordable Care Act goes into place. Recently the Federal
Government took the unusual step of delaying the employer
mandate portion of the Act for larger employers (50
employees+). Reading that might make you excited to think
that means nothing is changing but I have to share with you
that is not true. First of all, New York State is not the Federal
Government and they are very much moving ahead with
their portion of the reform. Who will that impact? Primarily
the small business market.
Whether or not you get your insurance from the Greece
Chamber, there are ways we can help your business
navigate these tricky waters ahead. First of all, we’ve been
providing several free training opportunities for our
members to find out more about all the changes that are
ahead. Remember, this is a dynamic law – the pieces and
parts are still in motion – so (hopefully) each month we get
closer to January 1st the more definite information we will
have.
Second, keep a close eye on our newsletter and email
blasts because as the State continues to roll out information,
we will continue to pass it along to our members.
Finally, here are a few really important things for you
to know about reform:
The Greece Chamber will continue in our role as a fully
licensed insurance broker both inside and outside the
new Exchanges that are being set up.
The State of NY will be running two Exchanges:
Individuals & Sole Proprietors and the SHOP (Small
Business, 2-50 employees). Again, we’ll be able to help
you in either one of these exchanges.
Pretty much every insurance plan in the state will be
changing in some form or fashion at the end of the year
to come into compliance with the minimum benefits
required. We expect to start receiving concrete
information about the plans during September.
There will still be high deductible plans available both
inside and outside the exchanges but they may look a
little different.
You may qualify for tax subsidies as an individual (or
sole proprietor) or a tax deduction as a small business to
help you pay for health insurance coverage.
Rates for the plans will be out by October 1st.
Remember – call the Chamber office with any questions
you have. We’re here to help you figure out what is
ahead for health insurance!

MEET OUR MEMBERS Mall Tote is a
company that
provides a tote on wheels that can carry several bags at
one time. By using it, you’ll have no more need to try to
carry multiple shopping bags at once.
The Mall Tote is made in the USA. The company
focuses on providing high-quality products and excellent
customer service. A lot of thought went into creating the
product. They realized the need for the product and knew
that it would have to be designed as easily portable, easy
to store and aesthetically pleasing. “The Mall
Tote...Because you only have two hands,” says Chad
McKenzie, president of Mall Tote, Inc. “The Mall Tote
makes shopping easier and more fun. The Mall Tote can
help you in outlet plazas, flea markets, regional markets,
city stores, picnics, sporting events, and even gardening.”
This item will easily handle multiple bags and can
be pulled with minimal effort. It has an aluminum frame
that easily slides down to make it half the height. Its
wheels fold up making it very easy to store and take with
you and utilize just about anywhere. The standard Mall
Tote is available in black as well as a number of colors . A
custom Mall Tote is also available and in addition to color
choice customers can also have writing added on the
sides and front of the aluminum body.
Investment opportunities are available for this
company. If you are interested in becoming an investor or
if the Mall Tote sounds like it is something you would like
to purchase visit www.TheMallTote.com or call them at
585-576-9784.
