A few pointers

• Speak English from the start and always.

• Use Cd’s for authentic English audio models for songs and stories when available. • Have the songs or stories playing in the background during wind down time. • Look for action songs; especially at the beginning. • Illustrate songs with key words. • Have the text, illustrations and words ready for the scrapbook. • Scrapbooks recommendations: spiral bound, give a specific size (it must fit in a schoolbag). • Find illustrations on internet, clips arts, colouring books or use the artist in you. • Ask for a budget that can include books, Cd’s DVD’s of books, photocopies, ink

cartridges…to build a bank of resources and illustration cards. • Prepare yourself: be ready culturally

find stories learn new songs listen to children songs in your car or during your walk read a variety of children books be on the lookout for what’s available use songs and stories that you love

• The first year you can use similar material for both grades one and two: you can just

adapt the end product for grade two.
