My good friends!

Crisis Control Ministry was started in 1973 by a few

churches, our First Christian being one, to provide food

and other survival needs to families in difficult situations.

We as a church have supported this Ministry every year

since with donations of food and other items as well

as it being a ―line-item‖ in our budgets. This month

Crisis Control Ministry is asking that we donate

BEEF STEW to fill their shelves. When we give

food, it allows the Ministry to use their funds to

supply needed prescriptions, supply a heat source,

or keep a family in their home. You have been so

supportive over the years and I thank you on behalf

of all those families served. Purchase your gift this

month and place it in the white container in the

office wing. Your help is needed!

Becky Minnix, Christian Action Ministry

A Note from Senior Pastor David Harrison

Hello Members of FCC!

―Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.

And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one

another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with

gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the

Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.‖ -Colossians 3:15-17

I thank God for another year and I thank God for all of you, my FCC family! Thank you all for the

wonderful acts of love over the holidays. From baked goods, Christmas cards, kind notes, gifts and

the Christmas love offering. My heart and my family's hearts are full of gratitude.

With the dawn of a New Year comes a wave of new possibilities. This year, my prayer for our

church is that we continue to seek after God’s heart and follow his leading. In doing this, we must

have a clear vision and operate by this vision. In all that we do, in word or in deed; it will be done in

the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! This year we will operate with intentionality within our church.

That being said, as a reminder, we will meet as a congregation on January 19th immediately after

worship service, to lift up three goals that will guide our efforts as a church moving forward. Please

be sure to turn in your ―homework assignment‖ from December. The assignment was to write down

your heart’s desire and hope for this church. This can be turned in to me via email at

[email protected], or in my mailbox in the office or simply slide it under my office

door. The meeting on January 19th is a kickoff to what will be a year of development, growth and

connection for our church!

Speaking of this year, FCC turns 130 years old! If anyone is interested, I am looking to put together

a team that will help with planning a celebration weekend/homecoming in the fall for this wonderful

occasion! Please contact me.

I look forward to this year and the wonderful ways God will use our church to be a blessing to each

other and to our city!

―I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things,

trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself,

changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before,

and more importantly, you're doing something.‖

-Neil Gaiman

Happy New Year FCC Family!

A Message from Our Moderator

Dear Church Friends,

Here we are at the threshold of a new year. Who knows what this

year will bring to each of us individually and as a church. I am

excited to find out. This is a time of looking back on the year gone

and building on it in this new year.

First Christian Church had a really good 2019. The energy is ex-

citing! Now our job as a congregation is to build on the energy and

enthusiasm 2019 brought us and make 2020 even better.

To make this year better we need to ALL get involved. Sit down

and think about what you can do to help in the life of the church and

put it into action.

A saying I’ve heard is ―Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it

you will land among the stars.‖ So in 2020, let us as a congregation

shoot for the moon and count our many blessings. Here is to 2020.

God be with you,

Judy Gillespie

~YOUTH HAPPENINGS~

Hello all and Happy New Year!

During the month of January we will discover the ―roots‖ of

four classic hymns. Each week, we will learn about the

fascinating histories of the hymns and their writers, and learn

how we can apply their messages to our contemporary lives.

The hymns we will learn about are:

Jan. 5 - Amazing Grace

Jan. 12 - What a friend we have in Jesus

Jan. 19 - How Great Thou Art

Jan. 26 - Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Remember, starting this month,

we will meet from 5:30 - 6:30 pm on Sundays.

We will fellowship and play a group game from 5:30 - 6,

and then our lesson will be from 6 - 6:30 p.m.

Peace,

Kaitlin

First Christian Friends,

With thankful hearts, we welcome January! Thank you to everyone at FCC for your

support, donations, and purchases from the angel tree for our fourth annual Christmas

event. Because of you, families were able to have a brighter holiday season! We also

give a word of thanks for everyone who baked sweet treats for our Holiday Meal event

for Easton Elementary School. Parents, children and the school staff, were blessed by

your show of love and practice of shared abundance!

We will resume our regular distribution schedule this month. We are excited for the

New Year and another opportunity to feed our neighbors!

We continue to be grateful for all of your support and prayers! Please continue to bring

your peanut butter and jelly. Share this good news of the gospel with your friends and

coworkers. As we continue to put faith in action, through the practice of shared abun-

dance, with our neighbors in Winston Salem!

Peace and continued shared abundance,

Historians

First Christian Church has been fortunate over the years to

have Historians among its midst. We have old photographs and some

not so old photographs, legal documents about the church and just

memories. Althea Gray has volunteered to be the church

Historian for 2020 and organize all those things into scrap books.

This will give us an opportunity, at a glance, to remember those who

have come before us and how we got to where we are today.

If you have any such items you would like to share,

please talk to Althea.
