Call and Response

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!— from Psalm 8

Confession of Sin

others. We have torn down when you called us to build up: we speak thoughtlessly against our neighbor, and are short-tempered when inconve-nienced. We receive grace, but struggle to offer grace when wronged. Have mercy, O Lord, for the sake of your Son.

Assurance of PardonMay God, who turns your heart of stone into flesh, whose Son laid down his life for you,and whose Spirit strengthens and keeps you, forgive your all your sins, and cause you to abide in his love. All Amen.

The Word ProclaimedSeries: The Story We Find Oursevles In Title: First Be Reconciled (see insert)

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the moun-tain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, say-ing:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righ-teousness, for they will be filled.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteous-ness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when people revile you and perse-cute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they perse-cuted the prophets who were before you.

“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a let-ter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heav-en.

“You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, ‘You shall not murder’; and ‘whoever murders shall be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell of fire. So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift. Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are on the way to court with him, or your accuser may hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.— Matthew 5:1-26

Prayer for TruthJesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen.

Prayer of BeliefLord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful that I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sin and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen.

Prayer for those Struggling with SinLord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my needs, and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to you, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith. Amen.

LORD’S TABLE

Christ has died: Christ is risen:

Christ will come again.

Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all followers of Jesus Christ to participate. If you are not a fol-lower of Jesus or are not prepared to share in the meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the church.

Guidance for communion:We practice communion by coming forward and receiving the elements. Whenever you are ready you may come forward receive a piece of bread from the loaf and dip into the white chalice which is wine or the green chalice which is grape juice. If for any reason you are not able to come forward our servers will come back to you. Simply raise your hand and they will be glad to serve you.

Members of our mercy team available to pray with you or for you during this time. They are by the outside doors at the rear of the Sanctuary.

Our Purpose:

Together, Living Out the Gospel in the Heart of the City.

Seven Core Values

GospelThe gospel is the good news that in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, God by grace rescues and draws men and women into fellowship with himself and with one another. Through the gospel all creation is restored so that we will enjoy this fellowship forever. Through the gospel God’s Kingdom has come and is coming. Therefore we are committed to a life together that is permeated with expectant, enduring, joyful hope.

Bible The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are God’s inspired, authoritative revelation. All of the scriptures present Christ and the gospel to draw us to worship and make Him known. We are committed to being a learning community, diligently studying all of the scriptures and allowing God to transform all of life.

Worshipful In response to the good news of the gospel, we worship God as King and Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of our daily activity. This culminates in coming together on Sunday — gathered, renewed and sent out by the Holy Spirit.

PrayerfulWe regularly and expectantly engage in coversation with God, both personally and as a group. We are committed to complete dependence on God in prayer for all of our life and mission together.

MissionalThe Bible is about the mission of God – bringing love, peace and justice to a broken world through the work of Christ. Therefore “missions” is way more than a church department but rather what God and life is all about. We are committed to calling individuals to respond to the gospel in repentance, faith and conversion. We are committed to pointing individuals both locally and globally to Christ by acts of justice and mercy. We use all the gifts and talents given to the church and seek to partner with other like-minded congregations and ministries.

International/Inter-Generational The gospel is best expressed and demonstrated through a diverse community who believe, embrace and practice it together. We are committed to ethnic groups, families and generations worshipping and serving together.

HospitableHospitality is a response of love and gratitude for God’s love and welcome to us. As individuals and a church family we are committed to the gracious opening of our hearts, homes and lives to others, especially the needy and strangers.
