June 7th Deacon’s Meeting 5:00 pm

June 21st Father’s Day

Dear Church Family . . ..

June is usually one of the busiest months of the year around our church. For the last few

years, at least, we have held “Love Week,” had youth camp, celebrated Father’s Day, and often held

VBS. This year June looks quite a bit different. One good thing I am seeing is that I am forced to

slow down and see everything a little more clearly. I am also able to re-evaluate things in a way I

never would have previously.

When I think about what has happened, and is happening, in our nation I am reminded of

James 4:13-16 which says “Come now you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such

a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit;’ whereas you do not know what will hap-

pen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then van-

ishes away. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’ But now

you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” It is easy to look ahead and make specific

plans about many things. What seemed very certain in February and early March of this year were

completely uncertain by late March and early April. One of the finest Christian men I ever knew was

very fond of saying “The Lord knew all about this.” Just a simple reminder of what me and others

already knew. God knows the end from the beginning and everything in between.

The Psalmist David wrote in the 139th Psalm “Lord, You have searched me and known me. You

know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my

path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my

tongue, and behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.” (Psalm. 139:1-4) We think we are cruising

through life with everything figured out, and everything carefully planned and then BOOM! The un-

expected comes crashing down on us. We should have been more cautious all along, but we usually

are not. It usually takes a wake-up call to get our attention. We are stubborn that way.

My hope is that each of us are using this time to examine ourselves and see what we need to

do differently. For some, it is getting back in church. Maybe during the weeks you could not go you

realized how each opportunity to go is a privilege. Maybe you have realized that this world is not

forever and you are not really ready to face God in judgment and there are some things in your life

which need to change. Maybe you have been taught to shift dependence from government, your

job, yourself, over to God and God alone. There is room for many positive outcomes and for God to

draw us all closer. The worst case scenario in this is that we waste this opportunity. How sad if we

go through these things and be no different on the other side than we were at the beginning. The

heart-breaking truth is there are countless numbers of people who are simply banking on things

getting back to normal and then we will all be ok. There hope is being placed on everything getting

back to normal. Maybe they will, maybe they will not. Many are missing a golden opportunity to

come to know God and depend on Him. In this time, it is important for us to introduce the one true

and living God to those who may be more receptive now than at other times. Let us not waste this

opportunity!

June 2020

Right Now Media Recommendation of the Month

One of the single biggest problems in our modern culture is the failure of men to be the kind of men Scripture calls them

to be. Too many men shirk responsibility, are self-centered, and immature.

Craig Groeschel has a brief and great series on Rightnow Media geared toward men called “Fight.” In this five-session Bible

study, pastor Groeschel explores the life of Samson, helping you to uncover who you really are - a man created with a warrior's

heart in the image of God- and how to stand up and fight for what's right.

Find the strength to fight the battles you know you need to fight - the ones that determine the state of your heart, the

quality of your marriage, and the spiritual health of your family. The battles that make you dependent on God as the source of

your strength. The battles that make you come alive.

Groeschel looks at the life of Samson, showing you how much we have in common with this guy. Things did not work out

so well for him in the end. But, by looking at his life, you'll learn how to defeat the demons that make strong men weak. You will

become who God made you to be- a man who knows how to fight for what's right!

Learn how to fight with faith, with prayer, and with

the Word of God. Then, when your enemy begins to

attack, fight for the righteous cause that God gave you.

Draw a line in the sand. Make your enemy pay. Make

sure he gets the message. Do not cross a warrior. Do not

mess with this man of God. Come out fighting. Do not

show up for this fight unarmed. Use the weapons God

gave you, and you will win. It is time to fight like a man!

Bro. Allen’s QuotABle Quotes

Subject: Father’s Day

“A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our

society. (Billy Graham)

“Life was a lot simpler when what we honored was father and mother rather than all major credit cards.”

(Robert Orben)

“It is much easier to become a father than to be one.” (Kent Nerburn)

“And he that is taught to live upon little, owes more to his father’s wisdom, than he that has a great deal left him,

does to his father’s care.” (William Penn)
