Whatawonderfulyearithasbeen.BetsyandIneverconsideredthepossibilityofcomingbackhomebeforeretirement.Itjustdidnotoccurtous.WhenweleftSumterin1985wefiguredwewouldfollowGodwhereverHeledusuntiltimetoretireandthenmaybe,justmaybe,wewouldreturntothisarea.Butwewerenotevensureofthat,especiallyafterwebuiltahouseonLakeHickory.Notabadplacetospendone’sretirement.Iwaseventakingupfly-fishing!
Butthenyoucalled,ortobemoreaccurateGodcalledthroughyou.Itwastrulya“Macedoniancall”experienceforus.ThatisareferencetotheApostlePaulinActs16.PaulthoughtheknewwhatGodwantedhimtodo.Inotherwords,Paulhadhisfutureallfiguredout,orsohethought.ThenGodsenthimavisioninwhichhesawamansaying,“ComeovertoMacedoniaandhelpus.”LikePaul,BetsyandIthoughtwehaditall

Wearegladwedid!Youhavebeenwonderfultousineveryway.TheSpiritinthechurchisgreatandIexpectsomegreatthingswillhappeninthecomingyears.Ithasalreadystarted:wehadsomenewmembers,abaptism,goodattendance,andalotofjoy.WearelookingforwardtowhateverGodhasnextforourchurch.

May Business Meeting May 9, 2018
Frank Jones,moderator,presidedover theMay conference. Minutes of the Aprilmeeting were approved as printed. Frankannouncedthat,duetoBibleSchoolkickoffon June 13th, the June conference will beon June 6th. We will have a kickoffcelebration thatnight.Bible schoolwill beweekofJune17-22.Thefollowingreportsweregiven:
Music: Lee Stogner,worship leader, askedfor our prayers and patience with theworship team during the summer. SeveralareoutoftownmanySundays.
Finance: Frank Jones, chair, pointed outfromtheavailablereportthatourreceiptsfor the month of April exceeded ourexpenses by $8,012.20. The Harvest Dayofferingwas$4,374.00givingus a totalof$51,708.08 in that account. Of thatamount, $32,000 is set aside for theelevator fund, and the balance of$19,708.08 is for the sign. Our MissionPartner contribution for the month was$750.00.We have a CDmaturing onMay14 and will renew at the best availablerate.FrankbroughtamotionfromFinanceto add $6,528.00 to the budget to coverthe Summer Intern position. This is basedon40hours/weekat$12/hr.for14weeks.Thismotionpassedunanimously.
Deacons: David Richburg, chair, saidactivities planned that would beannouncedinJune.
Trustees: Richard Long, chair, reportedprogress being made on sign. Brass locksarebeinginstalledonoutsidedoorsatcostof $3,367.20. The body approved thisexpenditure. Franklin Brown is installingnew thermostats to up- date our presentsystem and give us amuchmore efficientenergymanagement. This cost should notexceed an additional $3000.00. This wasalso approved. These do not exceed theirbudget. Richard Taylor, member oftrustees, reported that roof and someinterior painting has been completed atcost of $49,717.00- 8ft. roof extension$18,800, roofing $25,500, gutters $3,065andpaintingoutsideandinbalcony(waterdamage) $2,352. A new dishwasher waspurchased to replace broken one at priceof$150.
Hospitality:PhyllisBeard,chair,announcedthatwewill have a fifth Sunday dinner inJuly.OnJune24thwewillhaveanicecreamsocialsogetoutyourchurnsandgetreadyto supply. Our last summer social will bewatermelonfeastonAugust12th.
Church Council: Moderator Frankannounced that deacons and councilapprovedaJulyJubileeforthisyearaslastfew years. This means regular Sundaymorningactivitiesbutnoeveningones.Thedresswillbecasual.Preschool: Gene Benfield, for Wendy Hill,director, reported that another year iswinding down. Three have enrolled fornextyear.MaryBeth,heraide,needsajobforthesummer!
BudgetRequestsIfyouarechairofacommitteethatrequestsmoneyfromthebudget,pleaseturnthatrequestintothe
officebyJune1.
Ifwedonotreceivearequest,wewillassumethatthisyear’s
amountissufficient.
Nominating: Virginia Beatson, acting forchair, brought the following names toreplace resignations: Iva Jane Ham,counting committee; Richard Berry,nominating until 2019; Honri Jones (2019)and Irene Carter (2020), personnel. Thisnotionwasapprovedunanimously.
Safety:BoShotwell, chair, said theyare inprocess of getting prices for wirelesscameras to monitor all entrances tochurch.F.B. Joneshasagreed tohelpwithinstallationofsame.Ifsuspiciousactivityisnoticed in parking lots, the police will benotified.
Senior Adult Luncheon: Peggy Lester,chair, announced the next lunch forTuesday, September 18, with Tom Vassaras speaker. Kem Thomas, Methodistminister, will be the speaker on October16.
SeniorAdultActivities:AnitaArd,director,announcedthatthegroupwillbegoingforpeachesinJuly,dateTBD.
WMU:Honri Jones,director,reportedthatwe sent $10,606.58 for our AnnieArmstrong offering, exceeding our goal.We attended Santee Association WMUSpringmeeting and sent 16 health kits tothe association office. Honri brought amotion thatwecontinuewithourMissionPartnershipwith the Joneses until August.PeggyLesterhadadvised that theywillbecoming home from Saipan because ofseveralchanges intheircircumstancesandthus leaving the NAMB. This money willhelp them as they transition back to theUSA. Anyone wishing to designate hismission money for Billy and Joy Jones
needstobesuretomarkonenvelope.Thismotionpassedunanimously.
Youth, Children Search Committee: DougStrickland,chair,reportedontheinterviewthey had on Tuesday with a prospectivecandidate. Although she had some goodattributes,thecommitteedidnotfeelthatshewouldbeagoodfitforourchurch.Theclassifiedadwillgobackout,andresumeswillbeacceptednow.
After the meeting ended, Dr. Reynolds,minister,congratulatedthechurchonsuchagoodfinancialreport.HeannouncedthatFishersofMenwillbeholdingabanquetatour churchonMay18. The churchwill beresponsible for all thework, so if you canhelp in any way, please contact RichardTaylor. At least three babies will bededicatedonSunday,the13th,baptismandgraduate recognition will be on the 20th,andspecialactivitiesarebeingplannedforthe27th.

We are looking forward to a full summer ofministry and outreach in Ogden. We alreadyhavefivemissionteamsonthedockettohelpuswith block parties, evangelism, canvassing,andblessingourcommunity.In JunewewillwelcomeNaomiMoats as oursummermissionary/intern. • We are in the very early stages ofnegotiations for a possible newmeeting place. Please pray for thosenegotiations, wisdomin decision-making, and God's provision in theeventthatweareabletomove.
• TheWood family and their new daughter,Caroline. Carolinewas diagnosedwithspina bifida several months ago andthenmade her appearance in April! Itwas a good and healthy delivery, butCarolinerecentlyunderwentsurgerytohave a shunt placed in her head torelieve hydrocephalus (fluid on thebrain).Prayforthedaysahead,asthe
Wood family adjusts not only to lifewithanewborn,butalsotolifewithaspecial needs child. Theyhave alreadyseen God work mightily through thetestimonyofCaroline,andweknowhehasgreatplansforherlife.
• Continued discipleship of new believers.Please pray that we continue todisciple our people and to makedisciples of those who have recentlytrustedChrist.
