Parts of Fireworks

The parts of a firework are the shell, a fuse, firework stars, and gunpowder in the center

How Firework stars are made

Stars are made first.

They are mixed with sticky paste.

Then they are rolled out,cut, and made into balls called stars

Hundreds of stars are made.

Black powder is put in the center.

They are wrapped, then dried

Chemical reactions

Gunpowder has air in it so it will help burn because fire needs heat, fuel, and oxygen.

The fuse is lit, when the fire reaches the Gunpowder it explodes, sending of metals making colors in the sky.

If there is an other shell,it will go off too.

How colors are made

Copper - blue

Barium - green

Lithium - red

Strontium - red

Calcium orange

Sodium yellow

History of Fireworks

Chinese discovered gunpowder

In 1533 fire were used in Britain for the first tome

During the Elizabethan period, fireworks were high entertainment

In the 1830`s the Italians replaced potassium nitrate with potassium chloride

Designs and sounds

There are three types of sounds made by fireworks.

A whistle is added to make a whistle noise

By drilling a hole in the center of the whistle it will make a screechier.

If the whistle is sealed completely it makes a bang.

Safety Tips for factories

Buildings must be separated by blast walls.

Roofs weakened to ensure that blast will go upwards and not outwards.

Fireworks have to be assembled by hand.

Safety Tips for civilian use

Do not cross safety fences.

Never go near an unexploded firework.

If you see an unexploded firework, tell an adult

Leave pets at home

Have water on hand.
