Therefore, from now on, surreality will manifest in:

Dreams and desires freed from all interpretation and

sublimation, being the living energies of free-

spirited individuals;

Total revolt against every aspect of social reality

including the ideologies that strive to squeeze thisrevolt into the limited mold of leftist activism;

The free-spirited creation of our lives for ourselves,

lived to the limits against every role and rule;

The discovery of the marvelous in each unique being,

free from any mystical or religious guidelines;

The humor and playfulness of free-spirited individuals

who realize their strength and creativity in their

own joyful foolishness;

Open, expansive, generous thinking which grows from

the inner strength of free-spirited rebels;

An insurgent dance, a feral insurrection that refuses

all limitations, exists beyond all structures and is

the realm of indomitable free spirits.Today, social reality is a lifeless, passionless corpse.

Lets bury it. Now the amazing monsters of

surreality must come forth in the world playful and

terrifying in their wild energy, freed of the cages

and chains that have bound them; our dreams, our

desires, our humor, our revolt can populate the

commodities,destroyingecosystems,wipingoutindigenouscultures,protingoffofandperpetuatingourinsecurities,druggingand

jailingus,arescared.Theyknowthateveryarrest,everyjailterm,everysnitchintheworldcannotstieeachofourirrepressiblepas

sions,fortheinformalityofourresistanceisstrength,andtheycannevertakeawayoursolidarityoffrustrationandawakernhearts.

Theycannotobviateourdesireforinsurrectionifweremaindedicatedtosupporting,throughbothaidandcontinuedaction,thoseinour

communitieswhofallvictimtothestatesrepression.

afewoftheseevents.AlthoughitisjustanotheryearofCanadianoccupationonstolenindigenousNorthAmericanterritory,orjust

anotheryearofspectaculareventsto continuetherstworldelitestatusesoftodaysrulingnationsinglobalauthoritariansociety

anarchistshavedecidedtousethismerecoincidenceofsuchgrosseventshappeningaroundeachother,asawaytoigniteandconnectactionsfromallpoliticaloranti-politicalspectrumstogether.Throughimmensehistoricalslaughterandcontemporarycorruption

ofnativeculturesremaining,theUnitedStateshasdoneabetterjobthenCanadaatkeepingnativegroupsin-lineandcontrolled,and

continuingitslaughedoff500yearoldrobberyandethniccleansingquest.ParticularlyinwesternCanadathough,nativegroupsare

re-assertingwhatstheirsbyhaltingattemptsbytheCanadianoccupationtodeveloponwhatisstilllegallynativeterritory.Anar

Althoughwerenotreallyintosinglingoutonesymbolicevent,year,orissueastheendalltargettobaseourresistanceon,wethink

itsinterestinghowthiscampaignisunifyingnumerousstrugglesFiretothePrisonshasafnitywith.Theseevents,andtheloca

tionsofwhichtherehappeningalsohavedrasticimplicationsrelatedtoahistoryofcolonialismandwesternprogress.Thetypeo

de-centralizedand informalsolidarity being shownbetweenanar-

chist groups, indigenous struggles, and misc. radicals is proving

an empowerment in both principles of strategy and a potentially

wellasurbantransit.Mostofthisworkisdirectlylinkedto2010,toimprovetransportation&other

infrastructureinpreparationforthegames.Someofitformspartofalargerstrategyaimedatcapi -

talizingon2010andrelatedtourismandtrade,especiallywithAsia-Pacic(theInternationalTrade

&Investmentto2010Strategy,aswellasthe$600-millionGatewayproject).Alltheexpansionintransportinfrastructure(highways,ports,railways,bridges,etc.)ismeanttoassistingreaterresource

exploitation,includingskiresorts,mines,logging,naturalgas,oil,etc.Since2003,theBCgovern-

menthasbeenworkingtospeeduptheapplicationprocessfortheseindustries,makingiteasierfor

corporationstogetprojectsapproved.PremierGordonCampbellhasdescribedtheseasreformsto

openupeverysectorofoureconomy(BCResortStrategy&ActionPlan).Theresulthasbeenhuge

increasesinmining,gas&oil,aswellasskiresorts.

Mountains Under Attack

The mountains, pure & undisturbed, are essential to the survival of

all people. Mountain ecosystems provide us Indian people with all of

our physical, cultural and spiritual needs the mountains are ourshelter and protection The most powerful medicines are collected

in the mountains. The source of all water comes from the mountains.

The mountains are the most spiritual place for us.

Since2000,themainNativestrugglesintheBCinteriorhavebeenagainsttheconstruction,orexpansion,ofmountainskire

sorts.AtSunPeaks(Skwelkwekwelt)skiresortnearKamloops,over70arrestshavebeenmadeofmostlySecwepemcyouth&elders

Theyveblockedroads,occupiedbuildings,establishedprotectioncampsandsentdelegationstoEurope,Japan,andacrossN.America

Thisisallpartoftheircampaignagainstamassive$294-millionexpansionofSunPeaks,includingnewhotels&condominiums,more

skihillsandgolfcourses,allofwhichinvolvelarge-scaledestructionofmountainhabitat.AtMelvinCreek,justnorthofMt.Currie,theStatimchaveestablishedtheSutikalhcamptostopaplanned$530-millionskiresort.ThecampwasrstsetupinMay2000,andcon

tinuestobeoccupiedtothisday.Ithasservedasarallyingpointforcommunityresistancetotheresort,whichalsoforcedmanychiefs&

councilorstopubliclyopposeitaswell.InCheam,2003,severalPilaltwerearrestedafterblockadingatrainduringprotestsoverlogging

onMt.Cheam,thesiteofaproposedskiresortbyResortsWest.Plansinclude20skiliftson8differentpeaks,threeresortvillages,a

golfcourse,andasmanyas500,000visitorsayear.TworesortsareplannedforMerritt(NlakaPamuxterritory),alongtheCoquilhal

Highway.AtValemount,Revelstoke&BlueRiver,newresortshavealsobeenapproved,whiletheJumboGlacierAlpineResort(near

Invermere),hasbeenapprovedfora$450-millionexpansion(alloftheseareinSecwepemcterritory).NearKelowna(Okanagan),Big

WhiteandCrystalMountainwerebothapprovedforover$100millioninexpansion.Andtherearemore.Thissharpincreaseinresor

developmentislargelyduetogovernmentpromotionoftheindustry,whichincludedtheestablishmentofaSkiResortTaskForcein

2004.Thetaskforcewaslargelycomprisedofmembersoftheresortindustry(inc.DarcyAlexander,Vice-PresidentofSunPeaks),and

theirprimarygoalwastoincreaseskiresortdevelopmentintheprovince.ThegroupreleasedaResortStrategy&ActionPlanin2004

whichmadecleartheconnectionbetweentheindustrysrapidgrowthand2010:TheResortStrategylinkstotheSpiritof2010Tour

ismStrategy&theInternationalTrade&Investmentto2010Strategy.Allthesestrategiesaredesignedtogrowtourismthroughoutthe

province,maximizeopportunitiescreatedbyhosting20,andattractnational&internationalinvestment.Expansionoftheskiresort

industrywasaccomplishedlargelythroughLand&WaterBC,Inc.,agovernmentagencythatsells&leasesCrownland.TheLWBC

streamlinedtheapplicationprocessandmadeotherchangestoincreasecertaintyforinvestors,improvetransportationinfrastructure,

etc.Despitetheirportrayalasbeingeco-friendlylow-impacttourism,skiresortscauselarge-scaleecologicaldestructiontomountain

habitats.Ifyouthinkaboutit,buildingaresorttownalongwithmassiveskiruns&chairliftsontopofamountainobviouslyhasabig

impactontheenvironment.Thereisextensiveloggingforroads,skiruns,parkinglots,towncenters,golfcourses,andtownhouses.Then

thereswater,sewage,&electricalsystems.Ontopofallthisthereistheoperationoftheskiresortitself.Besidestheinuxofmillionsof

touristsintomountainresortsannually,theiractivitiesincludenotonlyskiing,butalsoheli-skiing,cat-skiing,andsnow-mobiling.Mos

skiresortsalsousefakesnowthatcontaminatestheland&nearbywater(andmanyarebeginningtouserecycledwastewatertomake

fakesnow).Inthesummertheremaybemountainbiking,dirt-biking,festivals,etc.Allthesepeople&sportsactivities,inmountain

habitats,addstotheecologicalimpactofresortsonwildlife,land,&watersystems.

&leasingofland.MostmountainsareclaimedbyCanadaasCrownland,anditistheprovincialgovernmentthatisboththeregula-

toroftheresortindustry,aswellasitsmainpromoter.Thegovernment&resortcorporationsarealsothemainbeneciaries,gaining

hugeprotsfromrealestatedeals.Thegovernmentoftenleasesoutareasforskiruns,whilesellinglandtobeusedfortheresort

town,farbelowmarketvalue.Inturn,theresortcorporationthenre-sellsorleasesparcelsoutforcondominiums,shops,hotels,etc.

Fortheprovincialgovernment,sellinglandbelowmarketvalueencouragesinvestmentbycorporations,andisaformofsubsidizing

them(liketax-breaks&buildinginfrastructuresuchasroads).Intheend,whatsittogovernment?Thelandisstolen&represents

primitiveaccumulation;thatis,capitalacquiredatlittleornocost,soitsallprotanyway!

Stolen Native Land

BCisuniqueinCanadainthatmostoftheprovinceisnon-surrenderedIndigenousterritories.AccordingtoBritish&Cana-

dianlaws,sovereignIndigenousterritoriesweretobelegallysurrenderedtotheCrownpriortoanytradeorsettlement.Thiswasset

outinthe1763RoyalProclamation.Inaccordancewiththis,theBritish,andlaterCanada,carriedoutaseriesoftreatiesinitswest-

wardexpansionacrosstheprairies,andthenorthwestterritory.TheseincludedtheNumberedTreaties(suchasTreatyNo.1,etc.).In

BC,asidefromasmallnumberoftreatiesonVancouverIsland(the1850sDouglasTreaties),andTreatyNo.8inthenortheastportion

oftheprovince,allofBCremainsuncededIndigen-

formsofgovernance.Despitethis,NativepeoplesinBCremainedaware

oftheillegaldispossessionoftheirland,andcontinuedtoprotest&lobbythegovernment.Intheearly1900s,severalNativeorganiza

tionsdevotedtolandclaimswereestablished.DelegationsweresenttoEnglandtopetitiontheCrowntoupholdBritish&Canadian

laws.In1927,theIndianActwasamendedtooutlawlandclaimorganizing,andmanyoftheserstAboriginalpoliticalorganizations

ceasedtoexist.Today,mostofBCremainsuncededsovereignNativelands,overwhichneithertheCanadianorBCgovernmentshave

thelegalauthoritytogovern.WithcurrentattemptstolegalizethepriortheftofNativeland&extinguishNativetitle&rights(theBC

TreatyProcess),theongoingdispossessionofIndigenouspeoplesfromtheirlandscontinues,andbyitselfconstitutesanactofgenocide.

Native Opposition to2010

2010OlympicorganizersknewtheyhadtogainthesupportofNativepeoplesintheregiontoavoidchargesofracismaswel

asprotests.TheyalsosawNativecultureasagoodwaytopromotetheOlympics&tourismoverall.Theirprimaryagentstoaccomplish

thesegoalsweretheIndianActbandcouncils,primarilytheSquamish&Mt.Currie,butalsotheMusqueam&Tseil-Watuth.In2004

thesebandsformedtheFourHostFirstNationsSocietytotakeadvantageofallopportunitiesincludingeconomic,andestablishaclea

FirstNationspresenceintheGameswhileprotectingaboriginalrights&title(November24,2004,pressrelease).ChiefGibbyJacob

oftheSquamishbandishimselfaboardmemberofVANOC.In2003,evenbeforeVancouverwasselectedasthehostsitefor2010,

theSquamish&Mt.Curriebandsweregiven$20millioninmoney,land,andfacilities,includingaNativecultural&craftcentertobe

builtinWhistleritself.Thiswasaclearmovetobuyoffnotonlythebandcouncil,butalsosegmentsofthecommunitywithpromises

ofjobsinconstruction&services.Thedealcommittedthetwobandcouncilstoparticipation&supportfor2010.Aspartofitspromotionalwork,VANOChasalsobegunsponsoringmanyNativeevents&seminars,includingaFebruary2007Vancouverhiphopconcert

organizedbytheKnowledgeableAboriginalYouthAssociation(KAYA,agovernment-fundedyouthgroup).JohnFurlong,VANOC

president&CEO,praisedthiscollaboration,statingthatthe2010Gameswillraisethebarinternationallyforbuildingpartnerships

betweenOrganizingCommittees&Indigenouspeoples.Whathefailstomentionisthatthesepartnershipsaretheresultofliterally

buyingpeopleoff,topacifyandsilenceopposition.DespiteFurlongsclaimofraisingthebar,neithertheVancouverBidCorporation,

VANOC,ortheInternationalOlympicCommittee(IOC),respondedtosubmissionsmadebytheSkwelkwekweltProtectionCenter&

theSutikalhcamp,inJune,2002,statingtheirconcernsabouttheimpactoftheOlympics.In2003,aSecwepemcdelegationtraveledto

SwitzerlandtomakeaformalcomplainttotheIOC,informingthemofongoingviolationsofIndigenous&humanrightsinthiscountry.

AlthoughtheIOChasanofcialpolicytonotholdeventsincountrieswherehumanrightsabusesoccur,Canadas&BCsviolations

wereignored.MostNativepoliticalleaders--thoseingovernment-fundedorganizations--supporttheOlympics.Overall,theyalsosup

portthegovernmentsplanstoincreasecorporateaccesstolands&resources(neo-liberalism).

openlandtosettlement,thefederalgovernmentissuedthe1875Duty-

of-Disallowance,strikingdown theActandcitingtheabsenceof trea-

the 1876 IndianAct, extending government control over all Natives,

includingthoseinBC.Nativesweredispossessedoftheirland,which

cameunderthecontrolofthegovernment.Atthe same time, the In-

dianAct imposed the band council, reserve and status systems, and

authorized therelocation ofNative children& youth intoResidential

Schools.Itwasalsousedtobanimportantceremoniesandtraditional

Thisisbecausetheyaremostlycapitalistswhoarethemselvesenrichedthroughpartnershipswithgovernment&corpora

tions.Theirpromotionof2010isreallyanextensionoftheiroverallpromotionofeconomicdevelopment,whichiscapitalism.Due

totheirleadership,aswellasmulti-milliondollarOlympicpropaganda,manyNativepeopleingeneralseetheOlympicsasahuge

money-makingopportunity(whichis,afterall,itsrealpurpose).Someplantomass-produceartwork,ort-shirts,orjewelry,orfood,

etc.for2010tourists.Othersarealreadyworkingintheconstructionindustry.Aboriginaltourismisseenasanothermarketthatwill

benetfrom2010.ThecapitalistswouldapplaudthisOlympicSpirit.ButmanyNativesalsoseetheOlympicsforwhatitreallyis:big

businessattheexpenseofthenaturalworld.NorisitjusttheconcernofthefourhostFirstNations,whomaygainthemosteconomi

cally.AstheNativeYouthMovementhascorrectlypointedout,2010isaconcerntoallIndigenouspeoplesinBC:Althoughthe2010

OlympicsareplannedtotakeplaceinonlyStatimc&SquamishTerritoriesthenegativeeffectsoftheseGameswillcarryoutonto

otherIndigenousterritoriesoftheareaandtheaftermathofthiswillcreateaninvasion,notseensincethegoldrush.(Cancelthe2010WinterOlympics,NYMleaet,2006)Whileafewbenetfromjobs,andevenfewermakemillionsinprots,therealOlympiclegacy

forfuturegenerationswillbeecologicaldestruction.Thatthisisoccurringnow,evenastheworldfacesagrowingenvironmentalcrisis

revealshowshort-sightedandgreedypeoplecanbecomethroughtheirlong-termexposuretocapitalistideology.Thelanddefenderso

theSecwepemc&Statimc,alongwithNYMandaSquamishelder(HarrietNahanee),havebeenthemostvocalNativeoppositionto

2010.

Conclusion

Ifthe2010WinterOlympicsgoesunchallenged,BC&Canadawillindeedgainpositiveinternationalexposure.This,inturn,will

creategreaterinternationalinvestment&corporateinvasion,aprocessalreadyunderway&affectingmanyareas&communities.If

oppositionoccurs,however,itcancontributetoeconomicuncertainty,detersomeinvestment,andlimittheimpactof2010onsome

communities&regions.

WhileitisunlikelythatsocialoppositionwillbecomesostrongastostoptheOlympicsfromoccurring,theycanbedisrupted.Due

tothemanydiversesocialissues&communities2010negativelyimpacts,thereispotentialforastronganti-Olympicsmovementto

develop.Itcanalsobeseenasacatalystfornewsocialmovements&resistancetoemergefrom.

Duetothediversityofsocialsectors&concerns,anyanti-Olympicmovementmustincluderespect&toleranceforadiversityof

tacticsasabasicprinciple.

Because2010issuchagoodexampleofcorporatepower&classconict,anti-2010oppositionshouldincorporateananti-capitalist

analysisinordertobroadenthepoliticalimplicationsofresistancetoit.

groupshavealreadybegunviolentactivitiesandfurtherorganization.Aseriesofpublicandprivateentitieshavealreadybeensubjected

tonolessthan19attacksinCanadawhereviolencehasbeenused.Thisgureisnarrowlyconstruedanddoesnotincludeanumbero

otherattackssuchastheburningofBellCanadavehiclesinMontreal.Suchattackswerenotincludedastheirattackersdidnotmake

aclaimrelatedtotheOlympics,theSPPortheG8.Mostdisturbingly,therehasbeenanincreasedidenticationofpublicandprivate

guresbynameinnumerouspostingswhichannounceorencourageviolence.Theresponsesrequiredtomitigatethisproblemcanbe

implementedinrelativelyshortorder,providedacertaindegreeofcooperationbetweencorporateandlawenforcementagencies.A

clearupturninviolentprotestactivityisoccurring.Therehadbeenadownturnorexhaustionofactivityfollowingtherushofactivitie

from2002to2004(G8andBushvisit).Itisunprecedentedtoseethiskindofforwardplanningbyactivists.EventhehighlyactiveG

campaignerswereessentiallyinvolvedinactivitiesforlessthanayearbeforethemeetingsinOttawa.Theviolentactivitiestodaterange

rightacrossthecountryinareasasdiverseasVictoria,Vancouver,GuelphandOttawa.Itcanbeanticipatedthatthisformofactivitywill

spreadgeographicallyasyear2010approaches.

Key Issues

1.Asignicantchangeoftacticsappearstobeoccurring,aswellasthetoneoflanguagebeingusedsinceabout2005.Oneofthechanges

isthatsomesocialactivistextremistsarefocusingonindividualsratherthanjustthecompanyanditsinfrastructure.Thishasbeena

favoritetacticofgroupssuchasSHAC(StopHuntingtonAnimalCruelty).AmongthetacticsusedbySHACagainstindividualshave

beenletterbombs,acidattacks,beatings*,vandalism,andgraftiattacks.Theseattackshavebeenaimedatseniorcompanyofcialsa

wellasotheremployees.Thepointoftheattacksistofrighten(terrorize?)theemployeestoapointwheretheywillnotgotowork.These

weredetailedasfarbackas2005inUSSenateTestimonybyMarkBibi,GeneralCounselofHuntingdonLifeSciences.Inadditionto

SHAC,thesesamesortsoftacticshavebeenusedbyotherprotestgroupsrelatedtotheenvironment,capitalism,andsoon.TheCEO

ofRBCandBellCanadabothtintothissortofemergingcategoryandtheyhavealreadybeennamedinanumberofprotestsitestha

claimresponsibilityforviolentactions,althoughnodirectactionappearstohavebeenaimedatthemyet.TherecentattacksinMontreal,

whichappeartohavebeencarriedoutbyanarchists,suggestedintheirstatementofresponsibilitythatpeopleshouldburnthehotelsand

housesofcapitalists.*FiretothePrisonswantstonotethatthereisnorecordedevidenceofSHACdirectlyclaiminganybeatings

ofvivisectorsorotherscum.Tomusingthistermisabsurdandmanipulative.

2.Aconvergenceamonganumberofgroupshasoccurredwhicharelookingatavarietyofactionsrelatedtothe2010Olympics,the

SPP,the2010G8,andtheCanadianCouncilofChiefExecutives.Thiskindofconvergencehasbeenseenbefore,mostexplicitlyin

Canadaforthe2002G8protests.Giventhenatureoftheongoingandupcomingevents,thiskindofconvergencewilllikelycontinueto

occur.TheissuesthatwillhavethemostcrossappealtoawidevarietyofgroupswillbethecontinuingwarinIraqandAfghanistan

the2010Olympics,theSPP,globalization,andthe(potential)downturnintheeconomy.Theconvergenceincludesanarchists,aboriginal

warriorgroups,povertyactivists,housingactivists,anti-capitalists,anti-globalizationactivists,studentactivists,andotherswhoare

justinterestedinanti-socialbehavior.

3.Atthenationallevel,thefederalgovernmentinOttawadoesnotappeartobeactivelyengagedinmonitoringorreactingtosuchissues.TheapparatusthatshouldbedealingwithsecurityissuesrelatedtotheOlympicsisinmoreofasetupphasethananoperationalphase

Aswell,thereisageneraltendencytonotfollowuponsuchactivityinbetweenmajorevents.Unlesssomethingtrulydramatichappens,

itisprobablethattheappropriatefederalagencieswillnotengageinthisissueuntilthefallof2009orlater.

Thethreatposedbythiskindofviolenceisasymmetric.Thisistosaythatthethreatitself(violencebysmallcellsorindividuals)and

theresourcestocombatthethreatareunlikeinnature.Theresponsetosuchathreatmustbeanintensiveknowledge-ledoperation.One

keyfactorinsucharesponseisintegration.Inordertounderstandtheproblemandformulateaneffectiveresponse,thenegrainso

intelligenceandinformationmustbeintegratedoverawiderangeofpotentialsourcesandbarriers.Cooperationamongthevariousplay

ersisanabsoluterequirement.Anumberofactionscanbeundertakennowwhichwouldservetomitigatetheissuesandthisactionhas

beensuccessfulinthepast.Ifthesearenottakennow,theproblemwillbecomeincreasinglyunmanageableastheeventsapproach.

anarchists,revolutionaryanarchists,itisobviouswearemutuallyinoppositiontotheorderofcapitoland

thestate,amongotherthingsofcourse(allinstitutionsofdominationandcontrol).Whatweseemtolackhere,specically

inthecascadesofthenorthernUnitedStates,isrevolutionarysolidarity.Solidarityisnotsynonymouswithcharityoranoth -

ermoralservicedoneinhopesofrewardsofgoodfortune.Sadlythisseemsalltooftenthementalitywhenoneisaskedto

showsolidaritywithacapturedcomrade.Ananarchististakenhostagebythestateandallwedoisdonatemoney?Clearly

moneyisneededforlegalsupport,andsurelythosesistersandbrotherslockedawayappreciateitdearly;however,revolu-

tionarysolidarityisnotjustholdingbenetsandfundraisers,teach-insandletterwritinggroups.Revolutionarysolidarity

issolidarityinaction,revolutionarysolidarityisinacontinuedstruggleandattack. SomeofthesimplestlessonscanbelearnedfromtheanarchistsinGreeceonthismatter.Acomradeheldforbank

robberyisbeateninprisonbytheguards,anarchistsshowsupportoutsideoftheprisonfollowedbyattacksonbanks,along

withthosewhodefendthecurrentsocialorder,thepolice.Inthestates,thepolicewerefoughtagainstafterattackingdem-

onstratorsataportinOlympiaW.A,thenwithinafewmonthspolicewereagainconfrontedfortheirbrutalactsofviolence

againstusallandwereforcedtoleavetheirvehicletotherageofspectatorsatadeadprezshow,theninweeksfollowing

that,othersattackedbanksinBremertonW.A,leavingatrailofnotesattachedtobricksaddressedtothosewhoperpetuate

theexistenceofasuffocatinglifeofpoverty.Theseactsareactsofrevolutionarysolidarityinandofthemselves.Tosee

fellowanarchiststakingastandandstrikingattheverymechanismsandinstitutionsthatwishtoseeusenslaved,toseetheir

hollowauthoritystruckdown,andthenactingtomaintainandescalatethisdegreeofresistance,tojoininthisstrugglefo

absoluteagencyovereveryaspectofourlives,byghtingthosewhowishitotherwise,thisisrevolutionarysolidarity.

Forweareanti-authoritarians,correct?Wecall ourselvesanarchist?Thenletsmakesolidarityanexplosionof

revolutionaryaction!Letmutualaidbemorethantheory,morethansharing.Letitbehelpingoneanotherinourstruggle

againstdominationinallitsforms.Stayingstrongandnotcooperatingwithauthorities.Helpingeachotherbyeitherpub-

liclysupportingrevolutionaryactionsifonefeelssafedoingso,orwritingsupportandexplanationsanddistributingi

widelyamongstthosewhodonotnecessarilycallthemselvesanarchist.Notjustwithinourgroupsoffriendsandcomrades,

notjustatoursocialcentersandshowspaces,butatthebusstops,schools,workplaces,streetcornersandinthehandso

strangers.AfriendonceexplainedtomeherconfusionabouthowpeopleperceivedGreekanarchistsinthewest.Shesaid

laughingTheydontjusthavesomenervoustickthatcausesthemtothrowpetrolbombsatthepolice!Shecontinued

Theyarejustregularpeople,theyarentsuperhumans.Theygetinthestreetsandtalktopeopleaboutanarchism,theypass

outpamphletsandier!Thismaybeanotherthingtolearnfrom.Wemustnotbeafraidofourowndesiresandpassions

ourownrageandanger.Thesefeelingsareallveryrealandmanyothersfeelthesamefrustrations,thesameconict,every

dayandneverhaveanyonetotellthemtheirfeelingsarelegitimate.Ifweallowthesefeelingsandemotionstobesuffocated

deepwithinourselves,thepowersthatbewillhavesucceededincreatingaworldvoidofresistance,absentofdignityandheart.

Iwillbeabsolutelyhonestaboutmydesiresandintentions.Iwishtoseeanendtothisworldthatalienatesmefrom

thatwhichIcareabout,thethingsthatsustainmybodyandallowmetolive,theworldthatalienatesmefrommyownfeel -

ingsandwishestocorruptmymindinordertoperpetuateitsownexistence.Iwishforanarchy,forabsolutefreedom.So

ofcoursetoseetheresistanceandrevolutionarymomentumthathasbeenowingthroughourcommunities

TelefonicabranchintheSanMigueldistrict,thebomb

destroyedtheouterdecksoftheofcesanddestroyed

alloutsidewindows,itwassaidthebombcouldbe

heardfromaten-blockradius.Shortlyaftermidnight

onWednesday,anotherbombwasdetonatedatapolice

stationintheNunoadistrictofSantiago,ahalfan

hourlater;anotherbombwasdetonatedatthe

SantanderbankintheRecoletadistrict.Noonewas

hurtinanyofthe3bombings.Thepolicestations

outerwallshada70cmhighand30cmwidehole

blastedinthewall,plusapolicecarwasdestroyed,

theblastalsobrokewindowsinnearbybuildings.The

banksufferedonlyminordamagetothewindows,

unfortunately.Pamphletsclaimingsolidaritywith

Mapuchestruggle,andinformationonMapuchepolitical

Yesterdaywasadifcultday.WeallknewwhatEricwasfacing,andweunderstoodthevehemencewithwhichthegovernment

waspursuingthiscase.ButnothingcouldeverfullyprepareusforthekindofheinoussentencethatEricreceived.Itisclearfromthe

reportsinthemediaandthestatementsmadebytheUSAttorneysthatEricwasentrappedandusedasanexampletoanyonewhodares

todreamofhowthingscouldbedifferentinthisworld.Afterpassingthroughthemetaldetectorsdownstairs,everyoneattendingErics

sentencingwasrequired,byorderofJudgeEngland,topassthroughalineofMarshallsoutsidethecourtroomandundergothemetal

detectorwand,aswellasacompletesearchofanybags.ThisridiculousspectaclewasclearlyanattempttoharassEricsfriendsand

lovedoneswhocametoshowtheirsupport.ThecourtroomwasnearlyfullofEricsfamilyandfriends.Therewerenotenoughseats

behindthedefensetabletoaccommodateeveryone,forcingotherstospilloverintotheprosecutorssideofthecourt.

Thankstoeveryonewhocameoutyesterday.Itwasclearfromtherstfewsentencesspokenbythejudgethathismindwasalready

madeup.ThesameliesthatwereusedattrialtoconvictEricwererepeatedoverandoveragainthroughoutthesentencinghearing.ThegovernmentevenhadtheaudacitytoclaimthatErichadneverhadare-ocurranceofpericarditis-despitethefactthathislawyerled

amemowiththecourtinNovemberdetailingEricsworseningcondition.Despitethefactthatthejailreceivedsomanyphonecalls

fromEricssupportersduringthattimethattheypostedanoteontheirwebsitespecicallyaskingpeopletostopcalling.Theyhadthe

audacitytoclaimthatEricwasatnoriskofharshtreatmentinprison-despitethefactthathehasALREADYundergone21/2yearsof

isolationattheSacramentoCountyMainJail.Despitethefactthatprobationrecommendedasentenceof156months(13years),Judge

Englanddeferred(asusual)tothegovernmentsrecommendationof235months(19yearsand7months).ThelengthofErics sentencewas due largely to the applicationof the Terror-

ismEnhancement.Thegovernment hasarguedquitevociferously

allalongforthisenhancement.Thebasisoftheirargumentisthat

Ericstargetsincludedgovernmentfacilities(suchastheIFG)-a

pointwhichwasneverprovenduringtrial,andwas,infact,denied

bythegovernmentsownwitnesses.Butthejudgeappliedtheen-

hancementanyway.Thejudgeordered3yearsofsupervisedrelease

afterEricssentencedisserved,thecollectionofaDNAsampleand

registrationasanarsonoffender.Nowisthetimetobeoutraged

OnSaturday,April19thalargegroupofanti-fascistsgatheredinWashingtonDCtoopposethemarchofthe

neo-Nazigroup,theNationalSocialistMovement.ThegroupwasplanningongatheringattheWashingtonMonumentforarallytha

wouldbefollowedbyamarchtotheCapitoltodelivertheiranti-immigrantmessagetoCongress.Theywereforcedtocanceltheirrally

afternumerousneo-NazisandpolicewereattackedintheareaoftherallybeforetheNSMarrived.Scoutsfortheanti-fascistsreported

thatsupportersoftheNSMwereseenwanderingaroundtheareaandgavetheirlocationtothemaingroup.Thegroupproceededto

marchtotheWashingtonMonumentbehindreinforcedbannersuntiltheyspottedthesupportersoftheNSM.Threeneo-NaziswershovedandhitwithnumerousbluntobjectsuntilasmallgroupofParkPolicesurroundedthemandstartedtoleadthemoutofthepark

Theanti-fascistsfollowedandatsomepointsomebodyallegedlypeppersprayedthegroupofpoliceandracists.

Thepolicestartedtomakearrestsandtook6ofourcomradesintocustody.Onepersonhadtheirchargesdropped,andth

remaining5arefacingnumerouschargesofAssaultonaPoliceOfcer,SimpleAssault,andPossessionofaProhibitedWeapon.Afte

thearrests,themaingroupofneo-Nazisarrivedandmarchedwhileundertheprotectionofhundredsofpolice.Theywerefollowedb

hundredsofpeoplewhoshowedupbywordofmouthorhadsimplybeenintheareawhentheneo-Nazisarmoredprisonbushadar

rived.Thegroupfollowedthemarch,shoutingabuseandhurlingobjectsovertheheadsofthepolice.Afterashortrallytheneo-Nazi

wereherdedbackontotheirarmoredprisonbusandwhiskedawaytothefreewayandbacktowheretheirstaginglocationwas.The

anti-fascistsontrialarestillfacingcharges.Theyhavebeentoldthattheywillnotbeofferedapleadealunlesstheygothroughaprocess

calleddebrieng,wheretheysitdownwithrepresentatives

oftheParkPoliceandanswerquestionsaboutthedayandtheevents.Webelievethisisanattemptbythestatetogatherinformation

onourorganizationsandactions.Theyareobviouslyconfusedandafraidoftheactionsthathavebeentakenbypeopleopposedtothei

February28,2008(Eugene,OR)-Thismorningat9:00aminLaneCountyCircuitCourtthere-sentencinghearingforJeffreyLuer

tookplaceinfrontofJudgeBillings.ThisfollowedanOregoncourtofappealsrulinginFebruary2007thatLuersoriginalsentenceo22yearsand8monthsbyJudgeLyleVelurewasillegal,andtheappealscourtremandedthecasebacktoLaneCountyCircuitCourt

forre-sentencing.Followingtheappealscourtdecision,negotiationshaveresultedinthedecisiontodaytoreduceLuerssentenceto10

years,bringinghisreleasedatetolateDecember2009.InJune2001,then23year-oldJeffreyFreeLuerswasarrestedfortheburnin

ofthreetrucksataEugenecardealership.HisstatedpurposewastoraiseawarenessaboutglobalwarmingandtherolethatSUVsan

trucksplayinthatprocess.Despitethefactthatthisactionhurtnoone,causedonly$28,000indamagesandsamethecarswerelater

resold,LuersreceivedthedraconiansentenceimposedbyVelure.

Luersgainedsupportlocallyaswellasallovertheworldasapoliticalprisoner.ItiswidelybelievedthatLuersreceivedsuch

adrasticsentencebecauseofthepoliticalnatureoftheactionhetook.Followinghisoriginalsentence,AmnestyInternationalandthe
