Three standard fires shall be considered
STANDARD FIRES
3 FIREPROOFING
PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION (PFP)
Passive fireproofing means insulating systems designed to prevent heat transfer from a fire tothe structure or equipment being protected. These are generally coatings such asintumescent epoxy based products but also include insulating panels orblankets. In most cases passive fire protection materials are used inconjunction with “active” systems such as water sprays, sprinklers anddeluge, foam generation and inert gas suppression.
A cellulosic fire has a slow flame temperature rise after ignition. The standard cellulosic firetemperature vs. time curve shall be that of the reference documents : BS476, IMO ResolutionA517(13), ISO R834 and SOLAS.Typical radiation value is 5 minutes after ignition is 50 kW/m2.The cellulosic fire temperature vs. time curve of the American codes (ASTM E119, NFPA251,UL263) is slightly less rapid.
CELLULOSIC FIRE
Jet fire is a turbulent diffusing flame, resulting from the combustion of a steadyrelease of pressurized liquid or gaseous fuel. They are the most severe fire scenariothat PFP materials could be required to withstand, considering the effect of erosionand also the significantly higher rate of burning due to turbulent fuel/air mixing.Test procedure shall be OTI 95 634.
JET FIRE
A hydrocarbon fire has a rapid flame temperature rise after ignition. The standardhydrocarbon fire temperature vs. time curve shall be that of BS476 Part20 and UL1709. Typical steady state temperature is 1100 oC. Typical radiation value is 5 minutes after ignitionis 160 kW/m2.
HYDROCARBON FIRE
Some of the PFP system must be able to withstand the effects of as typical explosion and subsequent drag pressures. The typicalmaximum drag pressure for objects with small surface areas such as structural members is assumed to be 0.2 to 1.0 bar g.PFP systems shall have demonstrable explosion resistance that can be supported by relevant testing. Preference shall be given tosystems that have been subjected to dynamic explosion testing by a recognized independent establishment. The PFPmanufacturer shall state the maximum acceptable deflection value (straining) of structural members that would not de-rate thesystem’s fire performance.

Intumescent materials are classified as either intumescent mastic or thinfilm intumescent coatings, Intumesent mastics are usually based onepoxy, vinyl or other electrometric resins and contain an agent thatintumesces when exposed to heat.Intumescence is a complex process in which, under the heat of theflame, the solid coating is converted into highly viscous liquid.Simultaneously, endothermic reactions are initiated thatresult in the release of inert gases with low thermalconductivity. These gases are trapped inside the viscousfluid where cross-linking reactions take place between thepolymer chains. The result is the expansion or foaming of the coating, sometimes up to 8 times the initial thickness, to form a low density, carbonaceous insulation char. This layer of char absorbs a large part of the heat generated by the fire thus maintaining theprotected structures’ temperature within the critical limit established for the specified time.As with subliming products, the coating continues to react until all its components are used up and consequently theprotection rating is given by the thickness applied.Typically, 8 mm to 9 mm (3/8 inch) provides a 2 hour rating to ASTM E119.
Intumescent mastics are hard and durable and the epoxyresin based products in particular provide exceptionalprotection from corrosion. This is due to their very highadhesion to the substrate and resistance to impact, abrasion and vibration damage. High tensile andcompressive strengths can be obtained and weatherresistance is excellent.
Reinforcement mesh is normally installed to ensure that the material stays in place during the intumescent reaction and toreduce the possible shear stresses along the coating/substrate interface.Intumescent mastics are costly and skilled operators must carry out application in carefully controlled conditions.Additionally, these coatings gave more stringent surface preparation requirements than cementitious materials, and theirreactivity makes them unsuitable for certain applications, such as enclosed living areas.Thin film intumescents were introduced as early as the 1930’s and are generally solvent or water based single packcoatings, applied by spray or brush-roller at thickness close to 3 mm (1/8 inch). They are often referred to as “fire retardantpaints” rather than “fireproofing” materials due to their inferior fire resistance compared to intumescent mastics. Many thinfilm intumescent coatings are unsuitable for exterior use and test ratings are limited to cellulosic fires only. Advantages ofthese products include :- they are available in a wide range of colors- they are relatively easy to apply.
INTUMESCENT MATERIAL
5 FIREPROOFING
It is important to recognize intumescent epoxy materials work. The key to the way an epoxy intumescent works is the reactionprocess. The nature of the material means that it will performdifferently in different fires and the substrate itself will affect theprotection design. An epoxy intumescent will react, intumescence, dependent onthe heat source. The reaction combines combustion of theepoxy (conversion to carbon and off gassing ) and gas liberation.During the conversion process, additional gas liberation from special chemicals also takes place. Combining gas liberation and thecomposition change of the epoxy generates a swelling mechanism known as intumescence.Intumescent mastics react in strata, inner layers progressively reacting as the heat penetrates the outside layer. Even after all thematerial has reacted, it still forms an efficient heat retardation mechanism.
QUALITY CONTROL
Our products are controlled under our quality controlmanual which is approved ISO 9001. Every designand manufacturing process is verified by our qualityprocedure to maintain high quality.

FIREPROOFING REQUIREMENTS FOR VALVE ACTUATORS
Generally the instruments located in or above fire hazardous zone arerequired fireproofing.
Emergency valve actuatorsComponents of valve actuators power systemsLocal control panelsAir reservoirsPower and control cables that pass through fire hazardous zone
TEST CRITERIA FOR VALVE ACTUATOR
The fireproofing products require to be tested in firelaboratories as the time-temperature curve of UL1709 (rapidrise fire tests of protection materials). The time-temperature curve of UL1709 is severehydrocarbon fire curve which is possible to occur in refinery, petrochemical and off-shore platform. The valve actuators should proof 30 minutes operationunder UL1709 time-temperature fire curve.

FR CASTING
When a structure or equipment requires PFP fireproofing with intumescentmaterial, the substrate is necessary to have surface preparation with blast orpower brush.PFP application is carried out by airless spray pump after treatment withprimer.Because the fire analysis is followed to process design with which is revisedlater stage, sometimes a fire protected and mechanically completed areasrequired additional fire protection due to revision in fire analysis concept. The area is not possible to blast due to finish of all the topcoat on the structure. The PFP casting is best solution to have PFP on the area.Prefabricated casting panel is assembled by fixing bolts on site withoutremoving existing coating including primer and finished coat.Fire rating can be possible upto J120 and 2.0 bars blast requirement.
H beam, I beam, deck, ceiling and equipment can be protected by intumescentcasting.Installation spaces is considered for free from obstruction at mold designstage. Structure or equipment drawings are necessary to develop mold design.
Installation detail drawing is provided for site installation. Installation work is done by contractor or by us as contract.External bolts or stud bolts welded on substrate is secure the intumescent casting on the position.
Site survey is required to manufacture intumescent casting. After site surveying, manufacturing drawing produces.Mold is manufactured to suit the structure or equipment feature. Intumescent casting is manufactured with proper thickness withstainless steel perforated mesh in mid depth of the intumescent casting. Finished feature is decorated grade.
Blasting is not required.Short delivery.Rigid feature after installation.Good mechanical strength.
No maintenance is required.Removable type for inspection of inside structure or equipment.Decoration grade finish.
