Fire is a good servant but bad master. So we must keep fire always under our control. we must not allow fire to be our master. Calamities never come with notice. so we must be ready at all times. if we prevent fire ,the loss we are going to suffer on account to fire that that would be our gain. we must remember by our heart "prevention is better than cure"

Fire Three things must be present at the same time to produce fire:
1. Enough OXYGENOXYGEN to sustain combustion
2. Enough HEATHEAT to reach ignition temperature
3. Some FUELFUEL or combustible materialTogether, they produce the CHEMICALCHEMICAL REACTION REACTION that is fire
Take away any of these Take away any of these things and the fire will be things and the fire will be extinguishedextinguished

Oxygen Required to Support Life and Fire
Oxygen = most basic14-16% necessary to support combustion21% in atmosphere
![Page 7: Fire Training](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062400/587af3d21a28ab7f378b6faf/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
How Does Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Work ?
Enters the body through the lungs and is delivered to the blood
Red blood cells pick up CO instead of oxygen
Hemoglobin likes CO 250 times more than oxygen
CO prevents the oxygen

Principles of Fire Extinction
1. Starvation
Removal of un-burnt material from fire area
2. Smothering
Cutting off the supply of oxygen from fire area
![Page 11: Fire Training](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062400/587af3d21a28ab7f378b6faf/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

3. Cooling
4. Break the chain

National Fire Academy Definition
Flashover: The ignition of combustibles in an area heated by convection and radiation, or a combination of the two. The combustible substances in a room are heated to their ignition point and almost simultaneous combustion of the material occurs.
![Page 18: Fire Training](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062400/587af3d21a28ab7f378b6faf/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)

If Flashover Occurs
Get as close to the floor as possible Place nozzle on full fog Put nozzle above your
head and open fully Move nozzle in a circular
pattern GET OUT! As soon as
possible

Point of No Return
A firefighter can travel 2.5 feet per second without a hose line You have two seconds
to exit when a flashover occurs Escape is possible if
you are within five feet of an exit
![Page 21: Fire Training](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062400/587af3d21a28ab7f378b6faf/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)

Backdraft
The explosion or rapid burning of heated gases that occurs when oxygen is introduced into an oxygen deficient atmosphere.
