fire pump idiot proofing
DESCRIPTION
fireTRANSCRIPT
Fire protection systems control and extinguish fires without human intervention.
A fire sprinkler system is an active fire protection measure, consisting of a water supply system, providing adequate pressure and flowrate to a water distribution piping system, onto which fire sprinklers and fire hose are connected.
Fire protection system is not connected to FDAS. The only part of fire protection system that have a direct link to FDAS is the flow sensor
EXIT
FLOAT VALVE / BALL
BACK
An automatic valve whose opening and closing are controlled by a float at the end of a wire or lever
ISOLATION VALVE
BACK
It is a valve in a system that stops the flow of water to a given location, usually for maintenance or safety purposes.
FIRE PUMPIt is a part of a fire protection system. The pump intake is connected to the fire tank. The pump provides water flow at a higher pressure to the sprinkler system risers and hose standpipes.
FIRE PUMP
Example of burnt fire pump due to lack of water in the fire tank.
BACK
FIRE TANK
BACK
A water reservoir intended for the event of a fire.
JOCKEY PUMP
BACK
It is a small apparatus that works together with a fire pump as part of a fire-protection system. It is designed to keep the pressure in the system elevated to a specific level when the system is not in use, so that the fire pump doesn't have to run all the time.
GATE VALVE
BACK
A valve that either allows or prohibits the flow of hydraulic fluid. The gate valve consists of a plate-like obstruction that is raised and lowered into place to control the flow of hydraulic fluid.
FLEXIBLE CONNECTORIt provides for misalignment of the shafts or to introduce mechanical flexibility and to alter the vibration characteristics of the motor.
FLEXIBLE CONNECTOR
BACK
Damage flexible connector can cause harm to your pump. Also it can cause flooding in the pump room.
CHECK VALVE
BACK
It is a valve that normally allows fluid or gas to flow through it in only one direction.
PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE
BACK
It is a valve designed to open at a predetermined pressure value.
ALARM CHECK VALVE
BACK
A check valve located in the riser of fire protection system that sounds an alarm when water begins to pass through it.
SPRINKLER HEAD
An outlet on a sprinkler system which covers a radius of 3m. Each sprinkler head must have a maximum distance of 6m with each other.
SPRINKLER PRESSURE HEAD
Rule of thumb:1m=1.39psi
Formula:Pressure=height(1.39)+60psi
Note:60psi is the standard pressure inside the sprinkler system.
BACK
CROSS MAIN VALVE
BACK
It is a valve that normally allows or restrict fluid or gas to flow
SUPERVISORY and FLOW SWITCH
BACK
The function of a water flow switch is to detect water flow in the sprinkler system, usually during a fire event, to send a signal to FDAS to activate the alarm devices in the property
SIGHT GLASS
BACK
A sight glass or water gauge is a transparent tube through which the operator of a tank can observe the level of liquid contained within.
DRAIN VALVE
BACK
A drain valve is a mechanical device used to release excess or unwanted liquids from the pipe line.
