Fire Alarm System Upgrade Guide

We Will Need Access to All Areas of Your Building

Elevator Car & ShaftIf there are devices within the elevator car or shaft, you will be required to have your elevator maintenance company arrange access to change the devices and they will also be required on the date of the verification.

Inside Individual SuitesIf there are devices within the suites that are part of the fire alarm system, they will also need replacing. If you are unsure whether there are devices inside the suites, you can arrange a service call at least 2 weeks before the changeover.

On the Roof & Inside the AtticIf there are devices on the roof or attic of your building, we will require access to them. In addition some devices may be wired through the attic and we will require access. It is better to provide us with as much access as possible.

Other Restricted AreasSome other areas that we may require access to depending on your building includes the mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, storage rooms, and any other places that devices are located. If you are unsure, please ask.

Change Over Preparation

Before we can begin installing the new fire alarm system inside your building we will need you to fill out the Changeover Preparation Form. This includes all the details for accessing the building and who to contact if any issues arise. Make sure you have the following information before you complete the form.

3 Change Over Period

This is where we actually replace your old fire alarm system with a new one. For most buildings this will only take a single day. However, for larger projects it may take multiple days. If the project will take more than one day will let you know and it is your responsibility to notify Fire Watch.

4 Verification Coordination & Notification

After the new fire alarm system has been installed, we schedule an engineer to verify that the system is functioning correctly and according to fire code. Before the verification date, the property manager / owner must notify the occupants of the fire alarm activation and arrange access to suites if needed.

5 Verification Day

On the date of verification, an engineer will be assisted by the install team to inspect every component of the new fire alarm system. During this time bells will be ringing intermittently and if there is devices in suites, they will be tested. This is why it is essential that proper notice is provided to occupants. You may also need a locksmith on standby and a representative from the management company if an occupant has failed to provide access to their suite. If notices are not posted at least 48 hours in advance, we cannot proceed with testing and will be forced to charge you for all incurred labour as well as reschedule your verification date.

The fire alarm system in your building is being upgraded and along with it the devices in individual suites need to be replaced. In order to accomplish this, we will need access to your suite on the date specified below:

Be Home During VerificationIf you can be home during the verification it ensures we will have access to your suite. Verifications often take several hours and we cannot guarantee that we will get to inspecting your suite within a specific time frame.

Give Access to a NeighborEven if you cannot be present during the time of the inspection, you can arrange access to your suite with a neighbour. Your neighbour will assist the technicians in gaining access to your suite and supervising the inspection.

Please make all the necessary arrangements with your neighbour before the time of the inspection.

During this time we will come to your suite and replace the existing fire alarm system devices with new ones. During the process there might be a small amount of noise and disruption. In addition there may be a small mess created as a result of dust and particle debris.

If you cannot arrange access to your suite, your building manager will be required to enter your suite with the assistance of a locksmith. We do not enter unattended suites without the accompaniment of building manager representative.
