My marathon journey so far…

…this is me in happier times

back in November. Celebrating

my 30th birthday in the

Business Class lounge at

Heathrow airport en route to

Istanbul. GLOAT.

At this point I was still

decadently knocking back the

champagne with little

knowledge of what was to

come. Simply wittering on

about how “I am totally running

the London Marathon next year

blah blah blah”. How naïve.

Then January hit…

AND IT RAINED

A LOT

I did not enjoy this

THE DAY OF DOOM

This was now my future for nearly THREE MONTHS

NO MORE

Strava and me are

now great friends. It

tracks everything,

including the

MILLION times I

have ran round, and

round, and round,

and round Arsenal

Stadium.

I’ve frequented

canals, parks, dark

streets, the lot.

Yet I’m still failing the hamstring stretch

Masterchef: The Menu

I may not have gin but my goodness I have eaten carbs. And a lot of them.

And they taste GOOD.

The 20miler 11:34 AM on Sunday, March 20, 2016

NB. Entertainment was brought to me by the audio book of American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

Who incidentally now narrates my dreams as I have listened to him continuously for so long.

Distance: 20.1mi

Moving Time: 3:54:39

11:40/miPace

Elevation: 167ft

Calories: 2,793 (That’s a hell of a

lot!)

This day will go down as

monumental in my lifetime.

Who knew I could ever run for 20

miles!

8

…and hitting rock bottom

9

However, I only managed another 3 miles. The hail and wind had beaten me.

When I returned home for the second time I sat on my bed and cried.

Definitely the worst Easter Sunday I’ve had and the lowest point of my

training.

Sunday 27th March was a dark

day. My aim of running 20miles

again was beaten by Storm

Katie (the bitch!). I struggled

through the elements, and

having completed 10miles I

almost gave up. I got to my

house and had taken my shoes

off, only to give myself a pep

talk and got back out there. As

everyone said this is a mental

challenge as well as physical.

But the end is in sight and my god I can not wait!

10

I may not be dressing up, having

tried a wig and deciding it wasn’t

quite my colour. But you never

know I might just consider it if I

raise enough.

And that’s where YOU come in…

What can I do I hear you cry…

11

Please, please do sponsor me if you can.

This is without doubt the hardest thing I have ever

done and I will not be doing it again.

I am not a runner. I do not enjoy running.

I am a gin drinker. I enjoy drinking gin.

Just £20 provides an hour of Marie Curie Nursing

care. You can sponsor me here:

Why Marie Curie…

12

Marie Curie provide care and support for people living with any terminal

illness, and their families. They do this through their nursing service, their

hospices, helper service and Information and support line.

What being a Marie Curie Nurse actually means

During my two years working at Marie Curie I

have heard some incredible stories about our

nurses but this video shows what it really

means to do their job, one that I have no idea

how they do. They truly are incredible people.

THANK YOU! 14
