Four Geographical Regions
• Archipelago – water and rock
• Coastal – plains • Interior – forests (70%)• Upland – arctic scrub
Isostatic Rebound
• When land comes back up after the weight of glaciers is gone it is called “Isostatic Rebound”
• Finland is actually growing because the land is rising from the water
Archipelago
• An archipelago is a group of islands
People• Saunas are an important
part of the culture• They are found even in
apartments• All gyms have them• After a business meeting
people will “relax” here• Families spend time
together in them
“Land of the Midnight Sun” & “Land of Fire and Ice”
• Alaska is known as the land of midnight sun because during certain parts of the year the sun never sets
• The land of fire and ice because though there are areas that are frozen, there are also active volacanoes
Iceland
• Capital Reykjavik• 2nd largest island in
Europe (first is the UK)
Volcanoes
Hot Springs
• Has the most hot springs in the world
Glaciers
• There are many waterfalls here
• There are very few trees and most of the “green” here is made up of flora (flowers), grass, and shrubs
• The Northern Lights can be seen here which means that it is above the Arctic Circle
Iceland Horse
• Very old breed• Isolated from other breeds• Brought here from Norway 1000’s of years ago
