Petrus - In the renowned village of Pomerol, pack-leaderChateau Petrus is unassumingly modest. Close by the road, lacking some formal alley, it is easy to overlook when contrastedwith some architecturally grander neighbors. The robin’s-egg-blue shutters against the limestone create a hushed and dignifiedexterior to the chai. Of course the hedonistic treasures craftedwithin are anything but reserved... On average, only about 4,000cases are made each vintage. -PhM

12.Chateau Haut Brion 1982Pessac Leognan, 1er Cru Classeu. all 5cm or better, some light label discoloration, capsulecorrosion and light bin soil“I know Jean Delmas, whom I respect as one of the world’sgreatest wine producers, has always thought the 1982 HautBrion was similar to the 1959, but I have yet to see that. It seemsto me the 1989 is closer to the 1959, another perfect wine andone of the all-time great Haut Brions. While the 1982 is a beauty,it has never hit the highest notes this vintage or terroir canachieve. Complex aromatics of scorched earth, smoked herbs, and sweet red and black currants are followed by a full-bodied,silky-textured wine, but I have never felt this offering haspossessed the concentration, texture, or multidimensionalpersonality found in such vintages as 1989, 1990, and morerecent years. Nevertheless, this is essentially splitting hairs as the1982 remains a superb Haut Brion. Seemingly less evolved thanthe 1990, it is capable of another 20-30 years of longevity.Perhaps there is something in reserve that will reveal itself in thenext decade. Drink now-2035.” R. Parker, 95 pts. 06/0912 bottles$4,750-7,000

14.Chateau Leoville Poyferre 1982St. Julien, 2eme Cru Classeu. seven bottom neck or better, five very top shoulder, bin soiland some labels partially to greatly unaffixed“There is no question that Leoville Poyferre was not making winesat the level of quality they have since 1990. That said, the 1982 isa great wine, no doubt because of the vintage rather than thewinemaking at that time. A brilliant effort, it boasts a dense purplecolor as well as a sweet, flowery bouquet revealing plenty ofcrème de cassis, plum, and cherry notes, stunning concentration,a boatload of power, sweet tannins (the sweetest and easiest totaste among the St.-Juliens), and a long finish. Although close tofull maturity, it has at least 20-25 years of life remaining.” RParker, 95 pts. 06/0912 bottlesowc (lid missing)$900-1,400

Thiscuvee was fabulous when tasted in Bonneau’s cellars, but itclosed down after bottling. Possibly even more powerful andtannic than the 1990, as well as more backward, the 1989 looksto be a great classic. It is a Reserve des Celestins to forget foranother 3-8 years. It possesses all the characteristics of the1990, but everything is packed into a more linear personality.Amazing stuff! Anticipated maturity: 2009-2035.” R. Parker, 99pts. 01/031 bottle$425-625

47.Chateau Angelus 2005St. Emilion, Grand Cru Classe“This 7,000 case blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Francwill rival or perhaps eclipse vintages such as 2000, 1998, 1990,and 1989. Its dense purple color is followed by an extraordinaryperfume of charcoal, espresso roast, blackberries, blueberries, and a hint of wood. In spite of its thick texture, terrific acidity, hightannins, and enormous intensity as well as richness, it issurprisingly approachable, but given how slowly the 1989 and1990 have aged, I would recommend cellaring it for 8-10 years. Itshould keep for three decades. A brilliant wine!” R. Parker, 98pts. 04/0811 bottles (owc)$2,200-3,200

48.Chateau Haut Bergey 2000Pessac Leognan12 bottles (owc)$250-350

49.Chateau Haut Brion 2000Pessac Leognan, 1er Cru Classe“It will always be tempting to compare the 2000 Haut-Brion withthe perfect 2000 La Mission Haut-Brion. However, it is not as fat, unctuous, flamboyant, or voluminous as La Mission. Yet, like agreat diplomat, it is a wine of intensity, authority, and measuredrestraint. A supremely elegant offering, its dense ruby/purplecolor, and burgeoning perfume of scorched earth, liquid minerals, plums, black currants, cherries, lead pencil, and subtle spicy oakare followed by a delicate yet powerfully flavorful, multi-layered,highly nuanced, and extraordinarily pure and seamless wine. There have been so many recent classics from Haut-Brion, it ispremature to suggest the 2000 is better than the 1998, 1995,1990, or 1989, but it is certainly a prodigious wine of dazzlingpersistence, length, and complexity. A blend of 51% Merlot, 42%Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Cabernet Franc, it should prove tobe uncommonly long-lived, even by the standards of Haut-Brion.Anticipated maturity: 2012-2040.” R. Parker, 98 pts. 04/038 bottles (owc)$3,250-5,750

50.Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 2000Talence, Cru ClasseR. Parker, 100 pts. 04/033 bottles$1,200-1,800

51.Chateau L’Eglise Clinet 2005Pomerol“A sensational effort from proprietor Denis Durantou, this 2005 isa compelling wine, but purchasers should wait at least a decadeto begin the magical liquid tour. One of the monumental wines ofthe vintage, it boasts a dense purple color as well as a gloriousperfume of caramelized blackberries, blueberries, andraspberries, a hint of toast in the backward, fully integrated oak, full body, and exceptional density and richness. Prodigiouslyconcentrated, this layered, broad Pomerol reveals a seamlessintegration of acidity, tannin, alcohol, and wood. It is a massive, yet remarkably elegant wine that is as singular as it is exhilarating.Anticipated maturity: 2017-2040.” R. Parker, 100 pts. 04/086 bottles (owc)$2,000-3,000

54.Chateau Pavie 2000St. Emilion“Give Gerard Perse credit. People thought his numerousassurances that 2000 was the greatest Pavie ever produced werepremature as well as arrogant. However, after tasting thisextraordinary blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and10% Cabernet Sauvignon (made from low yields of 28-30hectoliters per hectare) six separate times in 2003, it isunquestionably one of the most monumental wines Bordeaux hasever produced. Bottled in March, 2003, about nine months laterthan other 2000s, the color is an opaque purple, and thebouquet offers up notes of liquid minerals, blackberries, cherries, and cassis intermixed with spice box, cedar, and white flowers. On the palate, it exhibits a massive display of richness andextract, yet with pinpoint delineation and vibrancy as well as a60+ second finish, this is the kind of phenomenal wine thatPerse’s critics were afraid he might produce - a no-compromise,immortal wonder that represents the essence of one ofBordeaux’s greatest terroirs. Life is too short not to own andconsume the 2000 Pavie. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2050.” R.Parker, 100 pts. 04/036 bottles$1,500-2,200

The Priorat… Spain’s otherworldly vinous frontier. Staring at thecraggy slopes of dry, baked earth, it’s a wonder that vines cansurvive, indeed thrive. -PhM

56.Clos Erasmus, Terrasses 2005Priorat“The 2005 Clos Erasmus is produced from three vineyard sitesoriginally terraced by the Greeks. The current blend is 85%Garnacha and 15% Syrah with a long-term goal of making a100% Garnacha wine. The wine was aged for 18 months in newFrench oak. It is super-fragrant with aromas of crushed stone, slate, cinnamon, baking spices, cassis, kirsch, blueberry, and wildblack cherry. Perhaps a bit tighter than the 2004, on the palatethere is a liquid minerality that must be tasted to be believed.Opulent, harmonious, and awesome are words which reallycannot do justice to this extraordinary vinous achievement. In aperfect world, purchasers would have the patience to cellar it for10-15 years but this will be a severe test of one’s ability to delaygratification.” J. Miller for R. Parker, 100 pts. 02/982 bottles$400-600

57.Clos Erasmus, Terrasses 2005PrioratJ. Miller for R. Parker, 100 pts. 02/982 magnums$800-1,200

58.Palacios, L’Ermita (Velles Viynes) 2005Priorat“The 2005 L’Ermita comes from a parcel of 70-year-old head-pruned vines of which 85% is Garnacha, the balance Carinenaand Cabernet Sauvignon. Inky purple-hued, it has a totallyseductive perfume of slate, black cherry, black raspberry, andtoasty new oak. Tight but complete, give this sensational effort10-12 years to fully express itself and drink it through 2045.” J.Miller for R. Parker, 98 pts. 02/082 bottles$1,000-1,500

62.Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 2000Talence, Cru Classe“A superstar of this great vintage, the 2000 La Mission Haut-Brion is as profound as the 1989, 1982, and 1975. It is morestructured and tannic than the 1989, more civilized and refined, but not as thick as the 1982, and sweeter as well as purer thanthe 1975. The 2000 is neither flamboyant nor accessible, butwhat upside potential it possesses! In time, one might have toreturn to the prodigious duo of 1959 and 1961 to find a LaMission with this much potential. While still tight from bottling, itsinky purple color is accompanied by extravagantly sweet aromasof blackberries, blueberries, toast, scorched earth, coffee, asphalt, graphite, and smoke. Super-intense and unctuously-textured, with a sumptuous mid-palate and finish, this is anexplosively rich, layered effort that possesses everything I couldever want from a terroir that has given me as much hedonisticand intellectual pleasure as any other wine in the world. It is anamazing achievement for administrator Jean-Bernard Delmas, hisson, Jean-Phillipe, and the entire winemaking team. Thephenomenal aftertaste goes on for over a minute. Anticipatedmaturity: 2011-2045.” R. Parker, 100 pts. 04/031 bottle$400-600

63.Chateau Lynch Bages 2000Pauillac, 5eme Cru Classe“An utterly profound Lynch-Bages, this wine continues to remindme of a hypothetical blend of the 1990 and 1989. Interestingly, when I asked Jean-Michel Cazes to rank his top four vintages ofLynch-Bages, he ranked the 1989 first, followed by three vintagesthat he said were essentially equivalent in quality - 1990, 1996,and 2000. The 2000 Lynch-Bages exhibits a dense purple color, loads of glycerin and extract, big, muscular, sweet crème decassis notes, with hints of new saddle leather, earth, and tobaccoleaf. The 2000 is forceful yet plush, with a thick, juicy, succulentmid-palate, ripe tannin, and a long, layered finish. I know it will betempting to pull corks on this wine in its youth, but it really will nothit its stride for 7-10 years and will last for at least 25. Anticipatedmaturity: 2008-2025.” R. Parker, 95 pts. 04/038 bottles$650-950

64.Chateau Pavie 1999St. Emilion“The 1999 Pavie is a candidate for “wine of the vintage.” It boastsan opaque ruby/purple color in addition to gorgeous aromas ofcrushed minerals, smoke, licorice, cherry liqueur, and blackcurrants. The wine is exceptionally pure and multilayered, withstunning texture and overall balance. The tannin level suggests 3-4 years of cellaring is warranted; it should age gracefully for 25+years. If readers are wondering why Pavie has become so muchbetter under the administration of Chantal and Gerard Perse, keep in mind that yields are one-third of what they were underthe previous owners.” R. Parker, 95 pts. 04/023 bottles$300-450

65.Chateau Pavie 2000St. Emilion“Give Gerard Perse credit. People thought his numerousassurances that 2000 was the greatest Pavie ever produced werepremature as well as arrogant. Its denseblack/purple color is accompanied by celestial aromas of meltedlicorice, graphite, blackberries, cassis, incense, anise, and toastyoak. Fabulously concentrated, with great purity, an unctuous, viscous texture, and an amazingly long, 60-second plus finish, this fabulous baby will need 5-6 years of cellaring, and shoulddrink well over the following 20-25 years.

Chester Osborn, the remarkable person behind this enormousarray of both impeccably high quality and value-priced wines, deserves considerable accolades for what he is able to achieve atall price ranges. If you love Australian wines, d’Arenberg is awinery to seek out as these offerings all possess abundant soulas well as character. In short, the accolades thatproprietor/winemaker Chester Osborn receives not only from TheWine Advocate, but virtually everybody in the wine world, are allwell deserved.” R Parker, 98 pts. 10/038 bottles$400-600

74.Penfolds Grange 1998South Australia“A wine that flirts with perfection, and should rival the 1986 asone of the legendary Granges produced, the 1998 has one of thehighest alcohol contents (nearly 15%) as well as one of thehighest percentages of Shiraz in the blend (97%). Its stunningpurple color is accompanied by exceptionally sweet aromas ofblackberry liqueur intermixed with barbecue spices, an endearing, smoky earthiness, pepper, roasted meats, and coffee. Huge, massive, unctuously textured, and extraordinarily youthful, thisimpressive wine is a candidate for perfection. It should continueto evolve over the next three decades.

Grange, Penfolds’ flagship wine, is, by many accounts, the mostrenowned and world-famous wine produced in Australia, andthese six vintages from my cellar all acquitted themselves well. These wines are almost always Shiraz, but many vintages includeless than 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and there are cross-appellations blends from vineyards in the Barossa and McLarenVale.” R. This opaque purple-colored beauty should flirt withperfection over the next 10-15 years.Torbreck’s flagship wine, the Run Rig, is made from 40- to 120-year-old Shiraz vines with some co-fermented Viognier (usuallyaround 3%), tips the scales between 14-15% alcohol, and isaged 30 months in French oak. In contrast to the way they tasteupon release, neither the 1998 or 1997 Run Rig revealed anyoak.” R. Parker, 99 pts. 06/09Descendant - R. Parker, 98 pts. 08/03The Factor - R. 77.Glaetzer, Amon Ra Shiraz 2003Marquis Philips, Integrity Shiraz 2002Mitolo, G. A. M. Shiraz 2003South Australia“The virtually perfect, limited production (1,000 cases) cuvee of2002 Shiraz Integrity is a 100% Shiraz fashioned from fourspecific vineyard blocks (surprisingly young vines of 4-6 years inage). It boasts terrific minerality, structure, definition, andprodigious levels of concentration as well as perfume. Aninky/black color is followed by aromas of melted road tar, licorice,Asian spices, sweet crème de cassis as well as blackberries, anda hint of acacia flowers. There is compelling density, great purity, and tremendous viscosity, yet it is not over the top. There is realdefinition/delineation to this large-scaled Shiraz. It was aged in100% new American oak for 13 months. A tour de force inwinemaking, it stood out as one of the most singular and greatestwines I tasted for this report. Ever sincemanager Charles Chevalier was transferred from his belovedSauternes property of Rieussec (also owned by the Rothschilds)to Lafite in 1994, there has been a succession of profound winesto emerge from this noble estate. The 2000 Lafite Rothschild, ablend of 93.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.7% Merlot (only 36%of the crop made the grade) has an opaque ruby/purple color, followed by an extraordinary aromatic expression of liquidminerals/stones interwoven with the tell-tale graphite notes, mulberry, black currants, caramel, and tobacco. In the mouth, itis remarkably light on its feet, but somehow seems to packintense flavors into layer upon layer of fruit and richness thatcascade over the palate. A compelling wine, with extraordinaryprecision, great intensity, and a seamlessness in spite of what areobviously elevated levels of tannin, this wine was provocativelyopen and beautiful when tasted in January and February, but Iam sure it will soon close down. La Mission lies just across the road from Haut Brion. Thedescendents of American banker Clarence Dillon now run bothproperties (previously owning just Haut Brion). Only 35% of the cropmade it into the 2000 Leoville Las Cases, a blend of 76.8%Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.4% Merlot, and 8.8% Cabernet Franc. The wine is truly profound, with an opaque purple color and atight but promising nose of vanilla, sweet cherry liqueur, blackcurrants, and licorice in a dense, full-bodied, almost painfully rich, intense style with no hard edges. This seamless classic builds inthe mouth, with a finish that lasts over 60 seconds. Still primary, yet extraordinarily pure, this compelling wine, which continues tobuild flavor intensity and exhibit additional layers of texture, is atour de force in winemaking and certainly one of the great LeovilleLas Cases. The inky/ruby/purple-colored 2006 Chateauneuf du PapeDeus-Ex Machina reveals notes of graphite, roasted meats, figs, plums, blackberries, and smoked herbs. The complex aromaticfireworks are followed by a full-bodied, rich, meaty wine withgorgeous purity, depth, and length. This cuvee should ageeffortlessly for two decades or more. Tipping the scales at 16.1%alcohol, it boasts a blockbuster nose of dry vintage portintermixed with pepper, herbes de Provence, and roasted meats.Frightfully concentrated with layers of glycerin and fruit, it shouldprove to be one of the appellation’s greatest classics. Morebackward than either the 1998 or 2000 Capos, it is anenormously endowed, hugely concentrated, exhilarating effortthat will last for three decades or more. It is a strong candidatefor the ‘wine of the vintage.’ Anticipated maturity: 2010-2035+.When I asked Laurence how she would describe this beauty, shesaid, “It consists of 80% of a great vintage of Chateauneuf duPape, 20% a vintage port, and the rest some Syrah and otherthings we throw in for complexity.” R. 171.Guigal, La Landonne 1983Northern Rhone“This murky, purple/garnet-colored wine offers up an exotic noseof tea, smoked duck, licorice, truffles, and earth. Extraordinarilyconcentrated, and almost too rich to be called a beverage, thisviscous, compellingly endowed, massive La Landonne remains 5-7 years away from full maturity. The wine possessesexcruciatingly high tannin in the finish, but awesome levels ofextract and glycerin. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2025. Last tasted6/96.” R. Parker, 98 pts. 01/971 bottle$400-600

172.Guigal, La Landonne 1998Northern Rhone“The 1998 Cote Rotie La Landonne is a perfect wine ... at leastfor my palate. Its saturated black/purple color is accompanied byan extraordinary nose of smoke, incense, tapenade, creosote, blackberry, and currant aromas. It is densely packed withblackberry, truffle, chocolate, and leather-like flavors. 175.Guigal, Cote Rotie La Mouline 2003Northern RhoneThe 2003 Cote Rotie La Mouline is by far the most delicate andelegant wine (11% Viognier is co-fermented with 89% Syrah). Butthe enormous aromatics of spring flowers intermixed with crèmede cassis, black raspberry, mocha, caramel, and cola, andenormous full-bodied opulence and striking velvety, seamlesstexture make for one of the most memorable wines anyone couldevery drink. Powerful, thick flavors oozeacross the palate with a viscous texture, amazing purity, and justenough acidity and tannin to give uplift and precision to thisremarkable tour de force in winemaking. Of the 2003s, this is alsoapproachable, but ideally 2-5 years of cellaring would besuggested, and the wine will evolve for at least 30 more years.”R. Parker, 100 pts. 04/071 bottle$400-600

179.Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage La Chapelle 1990Northern Rhonelabel staining, tears“The 1990 La Chapelle is the sexy and opulent. I had the 1990 atthe Jaboulet tasting, and again out of a double magnum threemonths ago. On both occasions it was spectacular, clearlymeriting a three-digit score. The modern day equivalent of the1961, it deserves all the attention it has garnered.

The color remains an opaque purple, with only a slight pink at theedge. Spectacular aromatics offer up aromas of incense, smoke, blackberry fruit, cassis, barbecue spice, coffee, and a touch ofchocolate. As it sits in the glass, additional nuances of pepperand grilled steak emerge. There is extraordinary freshness forsuch a mammoth wine in addition to abundant tannin, anamazing 60-second finish, and a level of glycerin and thick, fleshytexture that have to be tasted to be believed.

Despite its youthfulness, the 1990 La Chapelle is lovely to drink, although it will be even better with another 5-6 years of cellaring;it should age for 35-40+ years. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2050.”R. Parker, 100 pts. 06/001 bottle$250-350

A one-thousand caseblend of 96% Syrah, 2% Grenache, and 2% Viognier, it is nearlyequal parts Alban, Bien Nacido, and Stolpman fruit with a smallamount from both Shadow Canyon and White Hawk. It boasts aprovocative perfume of crème de cassis, toast, blackberries, licorice, barbecue spice, and exotic floral scents. Extremely full-bodied, with fabulous intensity, great purity, awesome length, anda finish that lasts over a minute, this classic is a must purchase.Already accessible, it will drink well for 10-15 years.” R. Still backward witha deep ruby/plum color revealing only a touch of lightening at theedge, the wine offers up an extraordinary nose of caramelizedherbs, smoke, cedar, pen ink, black currants, and earth. Thegorgeous aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, plump, rich, fleshy wine with low acidity. With 6-8 hours decanting in a closeddecanter, it will offer beautiful drinking, but it needs another 5-8years to reach full maturity. It is capable of lasting 50-60 years. This classic Lafite is not as fat and concentrated as the 1982Latour, nor as complex or concentrated as the 1982 MoutonRothschild, but it is a winner all the same.” R. 1961 is perhaps the last great example of “old” schoolBordeaux. Nearing fifty, across the board these wines showtremendous depth and richness. They differ greatly from theirbrethren from 1982, which marked a clear departure into“modern-era” winemaking. -PhM

280.Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1982Pauillac, 1er Cru Classeu. all into neck, bin soil, slight staining to labels“This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrownoff the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed suchsecondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The crème decassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinarypurity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are ashowcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wineis still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable ofremaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning tobudge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kickthe bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux Chateaux whenyou see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth.Anticipated maturity: 2015-2050+.” R. According to some old-timers, the winehas been fully mature for almost 30 years. It possesses thatextraordinary Lafite fragrance of minerals, lead pencil, cedar, andspice. It is velvety-textured, wonderfully round, and sweet, but sowell-delineated and balanced. The Opus One project marked an important milestone inAmerican winemaking. For the first time, a towering figure fromthe European side, Baron Philippe Rothschild, saw fit to enter intoa collaborative venture with the leading California vintner, RobertMondavi. Cheval Blanc doesn’t scream out for attention, rather it ispassionately pursued by a knowing few. Unquestionably worthyof “First Growth” stature. It is a spectacular wine, and as it ages in the bottle, itis quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite La Mission-Haut-Brions, ranking alongside the 1982, 1975, 1961, 1959, and1955. The 1989 boasts a dense, thick, purple color, followed bya sweet, roasted cassis, chocolatey-scented nose with whiffs oftobacco, tar, and minerals. The wine is extremely full-bodied,unctuously-textured, sweet, jammy, and rich. Although it is still ayouthful, unformed wine, it is already delicious to drink. It shoulddevelop additional bottle bouquet by the turn of the century, afterwhich it will drink well for 15-20 years.” R. Parker, 99 pts. 02/971 bottle$600-900

313.Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2000Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe“The 2000 Mouton Rothschild is at its best with about 24-48hours of decanting. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and14% Merlot, the wine offers a saturated ruby/purple color inaddition to reticent but promising aromas of toast, coffee, licorice,crème de cassis, and roasted nuts. Dense, chewy, andbackward, with tremendous purity and density in addition toobvious toasty oak, it is full-bodied, powerful, tannic, andbackward. Twenty-four to 48 hours of aeration only hints at itsultimate potential. This blockbuster will be exceptionally long-lived. Pichon Longueville - The visually stunning Pichon Longuevillecould serve as the postcard-image one conjures up whenimaging a chateau in France. A Second Growth for certain, butgiven Pichon’s lofty neighbors, their competitive juices must beconstantly flowing. An intriguing aspect with many these older, established estates is how rigorously they embrace modernity—one could be forgiven for erroneously assuming that time hasstopped inside the front door. END OF SALE

Page 54: Fine Wines | Skinner Auction 2479

Ullage of wines of vintages fifteen years and younger may be assumed to be of bottom neck or better unless otherwise noted.Similarly, regarding older vintages, lack of notation indicates acceptable and appropriate ullage, clear label and sound cork; potentialbidders must be prepared for reasonable variations in ullage in all vintages older than 15 years. Bidders with specificcondition questions should contact the Fine Wines department. Conditions generally not noted on group lots.

Bordeaux wines are catalogued referencing the 1855 classification. Chateau Petrus cataloguing reflects the practice of granting it 1erCru Classe and other notable Pomerol Chateaux are designated Cru Classe. All Bordeaux wines may assume to be chateau bottledunless otherwise stated.

It is standard practice for Skinner/Lower Falls Wine to open all original wooden cases (owc) for visual inspection. The opening ofbanded cases will be determined on an individual basis.

For Burgundy, German wines and all other more gradually slope-shouldered bottles, the ullage measurement is taken in centimetersfrom cork base, e.g. 3cm, 5cm, 7cm.

Bottle Sizes

bottle (750 ml) jeroboam (4xbt); Burgundy, Champagne half bottle (hbt)magnum (2xbt) jeroboam (6xbt); Bordeaux split (1/4 bottle) Champagnemarie jeanne (3xbt) imperiale (8xbt); Bordeauxdouble magnum (4xbt) methuselah (8xbt); Burgundy

Buyers’ Caution: Levels are as when catalogued; ullage may change due to cork deterioration; other bottle conditions may occurduring storage and shipment. Risk of ullage variation and cork deterioration and/or failure is assumed by the buyer at time of saleand no sale cancellations, price negotiations, or bottle substitutions will be undertaken by either Skinner or Lower Falls Wine.Similarly, no substitutions will be made due to inaccurate descriptions.

Flights of Lots: Are of the same type, vintage and bottle count and follow one after another numerically, though ullage and bottleconditions may vary. The auctioneer may exercise discretion to offer, in consecutive lot order and at that same price, the followinglots in the flight to the first successful bidder of that flight. Subsequently, those lots not purchased will be offered anew and so on.Absentee bids placed on any lot in a flight will be applied to the next lot in the flight (if unsuccessful) until the flight concludes.

Environmental Note: It has only been in the last 15-20 years that the wine industry has moved away from using lead capsules tocover the cork and neck of a bottle. When opening an older wine, if you do have a lead capsule, give consideration as to how youdispose of it.
