BULLYING AND DEALING WITH THE SCHOOL

Although our school implements a number of anti-bullying strategies, at times, students occasionally make inappropriate choices resulting in bullying behaviours. Parents are encouraged to report incidents of bullying to the school and discuss future action with their child. Here are a few strategies which may be of help:

Get the facts. Before approaching the school, list all the facts as well as you know them: what happened, who was involved, where it occurred, who witnessed it, anything your child did that may have provoked the incident, whether it was a one-off or a series of events.

Explain to your child that you intend to talk to the school about the incident. Reassure your child that it will make things better in the long run, not worse.

Make an appointment to avoid disappointment or frustration. The school is a busy place and if you arrive unexpectedly, the person you need to see may not be available.

Leave dealing with the bully to the school and don’t try to deal with the bully or the bully’s parents directly yourself.

Avoid accusing the school, but ask questions to clarify the situation. Try to stay calm and remember that teachers are usually the last to find out that bullying is happening at the school. The usual sequence is friends first, then parents, and lastly the school.

Ask what the school will do to deal with the problem and what the school would like you to do.

Be patient and allow the school time to investigate and deal with the problem.

Be willing to participate in a follow-up meeting to make sure the problem has been solved and the situation is being monitored. Supporting our young people to become socially competent, confident and resilient is an ongoing priority at the school. When parents and teachers work together cooperatively, the children benefit.

BAKER’S DELIGHT HOT CROSS BUNS FUNDRAISER & EASTER RAFFLE

Be sure to buy your raffle tickets so you can be in the draw to win one of the many Easter Baskets, being drawn at our assembly on Friday 27th March. Your HOT CROSS BUN orders will be distributed on Wednesday 25th March.

Students will be dismissed on the last day of Term 1, from their classrooms at 1.30pm. School resumes for Term 2 on Tuesday 14th April 2020.

Introducing Learning Team 3

Hello Findon Families, I’m Isabelle Iliopoulos (Miss Ili). I am so, so happy to be back at Findon after two wonderful years of teaching and living in London as well travelling to over 40 countries in that time! Behind me in my photo is Tower Bridge which is one of London’s famous bridges and landmarks. Prior to my two year adventure, I taught at Findon for two years in LT2 teaching Years 1 and 2. I am thrilled to be a part of LT3 in 2020, taking on the role of Team Manager and working with an amazing team of teachers and students. I am looking forward to a wonderful year of teaching the superstars in 3II with a year full of growth and exciting challenges and events such as the Phillip Island camp! I love spending time with friends and family, going to the beach and I have a serious love for food! Now that I’m back in Melbourne, it will be much easier to keep up with watching Collingwood games. I am all the way down the back of the BER in Room 17, so please make the trek and say hello!

Hello, my name is Louise and this is my first year teaching at Findon. I'm so excited to be teaching 3/4LP this year! I've taught Prep and Grade 5/6 previously at different schools. I took last year off, because I had a baby. Before I was a teacher, I was a journalist. I'm very passionate about writing! When I'm not in the classroom, I am usually hanging out with my husband Frankie or son Preston. I love drawing, painting, playing music and exploring new places. I've been to lots of different countries, but my favourites were Cuba and Greece! Please come and say hi.

Hi, I’m Daniel. I am enjoying the opportunity to guide and learn with the students in Years 3

and 4, and I am also lucky to be teaching alongside Isabelle (back at Findon after two amazing

years travelling the world and teaching overseas), Mel and Molly in the BER, and Elizabeth and

Louise across the way in the portables. I am looking forward to watching our students take on a

variety of challenges this year, like creating incredible food in the kitchen (assisting Michelle in

her new role), conquering the NAPLAN, and going on exciting adventures, such as the journey

to Phillip Island for camp. The photo I have included is taken at Erskine Falls in Lorne. My two

sons, Oliver and Elliot are on the rock with me and we enjoy heading down there in summer

and standing under the waterfall. I continue to support the Blues (even if the AFL is on hold or I

can’t go to games), and I’ve become a Brooklyn Nets fan in the NBA (hope the season comes

back quickly).

I leave you with the following words to ponder

‘No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.’

Have a great week

4 Great Hampers to be won!!!!!!!

Hi my name is Elizabeth and this is my fourth year of teaching at Findon Primary. I live with my fiancé Jackson and love visiting my family on the weekends. Some of my hobbies include playing netball, playing the piano and going to the beach during the school holidays. I love dogs, reading, dress up parties and watching LOTS of movies! I hate cooking, crowded trams and forgetting to bring my lunch to school. I’m really excited about going on Camp to Philip Island this year and have been absolutely loving teaching grade 3/4s this year!

Hi I’m Mel. I have two young sons. Harvey who is seven and is year 1 and Darcy who is two. I’m loving working with Molly and the students in OC. We’re off to a great start to 2020 and l can’t wait for all the learning that is yet to come.
