TERM 1 , WEEK 3
FINDON PRIMARY TUESDAY FEBRUARY 14TH,
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
New Pedestrian Entrance to the school
Congratulations to everyone for making our new pedestrian pathway at the front of the school such a well used and safe access. From my observations, there was not one person walking through the carpark!! Well done everyone!
Uniform & Sunsmart Policy
Our students look fabulous when they are dressed in their school uniform and I commend all families for their support of the policy. The Findon P.S. uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instills recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community, and assists in developing pride in representing their school.
The aims of the policy are as follows:
To promote equality amongst all students.
To further develop a sense of pride in, and connection with our school.
To provide durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our school environment.
To provide easy identification of students within the school and community.
To maintain and enhance the positive image of the school in the community.
During Term 1 and 4, students are also expected to wear their hat and sunglasses outside. If your child has misplaced either of these items they can be purchased at Reception at school. Please name all of
your child’s items so that if they are misplaced they can be returned to your child.
Personal Goods Including Mobile Phones
This is to remind all families that the Department of Education and Early Childhood does not hold insurance nor does it accept responsibility for personal property and goods brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. I discourage students who would like to bring any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.
If your child needs to bring a mobile phone to school, it is to be switched off and not in use whilst they are at school. Your child is expected to store their mobile phone in their bag and leave it there until the end of the school day.
School Council Elections
Just a reminder............nominations for positions for the 2012/13 School Council opened last Wednesday, 8 February and closes this Friday, 17 February. Nomination forms can be picked up from the office. There are four vacancies for the Parent member on School Council. The term of office for these vacancies is two years.
Prep for Parents Did your child start Prep this year? Would you like tips on how to support your child in their first year at school?

At Findon Primary School, our vision is that our children will become life-long learners with positive feelings of self-worth. As young adults they must be confident, tolerant, adaptable and resilient. They will be effective team members who understand their rights and responsibilities within the global community.

The First Few Weeks
How your child reacts to starting school will depend on their personality, their background and how prepared they are for this next big step in their lives. By now they'll probably be responding to school in a variety of ways – they might be really excited and looking forward to going to school each day. They may be showing signs of not wanting to go or taking school as just a part of their daily routine. Or they may go through all of these reactions depending on how they feel on any particular day. Most children will be experiencing some change – after all they’ll be learning, playing and interacting with new people and getting used to a whole new environment – it will take them some time to settle in.
Some things you can do to help your child adjust to school include:
Ensure they have a healthy breakfast – this is important for energy to get through the day.
Aim to get out of the house on time in a calm, relaxed manner to set up a positive tone for their day. To help you achieve this, try giving your child some simple tasks like putting the cereal or fruit for breakfast on the table or collecting their hat, sunscreen and drink bottle and putting them into their school bag. Don't worry if they are slow or make mistakes with these tasks at first. They will get the hang of it, and it'll be one less thing you'll have to do.
Make time to chat to your child about what they did at school that day. This will give you a good idea of what they enjoy doing and how they are getting on in their new environment. Remember, your child's emotional reaction to going to school may vary a lot, especially during the first few weeks.
Develop a bedtime routine so your child can wind down at the end of the day and get a good night's sleep – children aged five need around 10 to 11 hours sleep a night.
Try not to put too many expectations on yourself or your child; if they are happy and enjoying school, that’s a real achievement.
You know your child best. If you have any questions about how they are settling in at school, contact your child’s teacher so you can talk things through together. You can contact your child's teacher in person, over the telephone or via email, whichever suits you and your situation best.

All students who have submitted an application will be strongly considered when extra students are
needed to organise and manage special events throughout the school year.

The library is a busy place and the students of Findon have a lot of resources that need processing for use in the classroom. Too much for one person to do so I am appealing for helpers.
The tasks include:
Covering new books Repairing books Creating class sets Photocopying and sorting home reading checklists Tidying the shelves Book return processing Sorting out the electronic resources room Sorting out the science cupboard
If you have 15, 20, 30, 60 mins or more to spare each week, fortnight or month, please drop by the library. Your help will be appreciated by all, especially your own children who will benefit from the provision of new resources. We will even bribe you with coffee and cake. Please put your name and availability on list in the library.
Thanks in anticipation

OSHC NEWS Welcome back to another fun year of OSHC.
This week, could all children in the service please bring with them a white or light coloured tee-shirt. The children are decorating them for an art and
craft activity this week.
Immunisation records and Information sheets:
If you have a Medicare account online, you can download your child’s immunisation records and hand them to OSCH, or the school would be pleased to provide you with a copy. Parents must ask the school for copies of these immunization records. Due to privacy law, we cannot have access to your child’s immunisation records from the school unless you
give the office staff permission.
Can parents please go online to update your child’s records, even if your child is not enrolled in the program this year. This is important just in case there is an emergency and you need your child
booked into the program at the last minute.
I will be approaching parents to update our on
site paper records too.
Keep smiling,
OSHC STAFF.
