Finding Hope & Help in
Our Time of Need
Hebrews 1:5-2
Where does the writer of Hebrews draw hope, help, & comfort?• OT Passages: 2 Samuel 7:14, Deuteronomy 32,
Isaiah 8:17-18, Psalm 2:7, 8:4-6, 22:22. 45:6-7, 97:7, 104:4, 110;1
• Angels• Jesus
The Old Testament points to Jesus• Keeps them from drifting. Did not own
Scripture.• Reminds them this isn’t new teaching to trust
in Christ.
Angels remind us of God’s personal involvement in our lives.• They minister by bringing messages
from God when we need it.• They minister by attending to our
needs by God’s direction.• They are our helpers, not our
guardians or our Savior.
Jesus is superior to the OT & angels in providing hope, help, & comfort.• He is the message & promise of the OT. 1:5-9• He is the One the angels worship. 1:6• He is the beginning & ending of all things.
1:10-13• All the enemies of God will bow down before
Him. 1:13• When He speaks, we should listen. 2:1-4• He is the ruler of the world to come. 2:5-8• He is the conqueror of death & the devil.
2:9-16• He is faithful, merciful, & understands us
completely. 2:17-18
